I think Careless was referring to the fact that Burnett grew up a Card fan and was applying that to his own hypothetical situation of being a Cub fan.

I'm thinking he isn't realizing the reason you said Cubs was because you grew up a Cubs fan and Burnett grew up a Cards fan, so you were relating Burnett's opportunity to play for his favorite team to what would be your opportunity to play for your favorite team (Cubs).

It's quite possible that Jacque Jones' suckiness is such that not even Cardinal pixie dust can make him an All-Star.

No she (I) didn't think about that at all. I just didn't want to see the Cubs name associated with Burnett.

Yeah, I could tell that Gammons was hedging a bit (after stating that it was basically over). The Cards might pull it off with the fifth year addition and other incentives. They just have to hope that the Blue Jays aren't willing to outbid them at any cost.

 

I have a feeling they will outbid the Cards. :D
