  1. I'm thrilled to see Corey do well. It's called hitting not walking and he has a manager that appreciates that mindset.
  2. No; you're probably thinking of Koronka. Welly was with Florida and Kansas City after leaving the Cubs. I forgot who Welly went too, thanks NCCF. And I think Red was right, it may have been Leicester. I think it's an interesting move putting Welly back as a starter. I'll never forget his first save.
  3. It's USC, he already had an agent.
  4. Greene can stand on the 3 point line and not play defense in the NBA, buh bye.
  5. The 1920's want their slang back. Old Miss's 1908 thread just brought me back, what can I say?
  6. No; Pie needs regular playing time. He's not going to improve by sitting on the bench or going back to AAA. I can't disagree enough. The manager for the Cubs in 2003 said that young players learn how to play the game from the bench and by jingles, he had the Cubs within a game of the World Series so he knows what he's talking about.
  7. I think Wood should wear an eye patch when he's pitching to make himself look tougher.
  8. I thought Sisco was going to be the cats meow. I wish him well.
  9. Thanks for the pictures OMC and thanks to Fred for taking them. :P
  10. That has to be the most extreme example of one end of the academic spectrum to the other.
  11. And can't get hit 3 times in a game like Utley can.
  12. Wasn't Welly with the Rangers before that?
  13. I think the key is how they react to it. If they're trying to win 2 games while playing one they are going to have a tough year but if they just relax and play the way they are capable, they'll be ok. This is why it's nice to have some balance offense/defensepitching, when one struggles, often the other will keep you in the game. If their O struggles, they have some problems.
  14. well shoot i guess they're basically eliminated, what with 7 whole losses. might as well give up now. In the history of the major leagues, no team that has started 0-7 has ever made the playoffs. They're going to have a rough time overriding all that history. Not saying it can't be done, but they've put themselves in a very bad position now. With the wild card and smaller divisions I think going 0-7 isn't as bad as it used to be. It ain't good though.
  15. They just got lights, give them a few decades will ya.
  16. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-080407-kosuke-fukudome-chicago-cubs-piniella,0,7789593.story I had a sudden image of Kosuke turning around to bat RH against a LOOGY late in a tight game, ala Rocky II. Fukudome, with the bases loaded and 2 out, down 3 to the Mets in Game 7 of the NLCS, facing Wager is down 0/2: Fukudome (tapping off cleats): I'll admit it, you are better than I am Wagner (rubbing the ball): Then why are you smiling? Fukudome (settles in batters box): b/c I know something that you don't Wagner (firing nasty breaking ball): What's that? Fukudome: I...am not left-handed [switches to RH batters box and crushes a grand slam] Very nice.
  17. I'm pretty happy with the way the BE played in the tournament. As I said in the beginning, no outstanding team but a lot of good ones and every BE team that lost was a tough/close game. Nova lost their big guy just before the Kansas game and that hurt them big time in that one.
  18. As long as DeRosa continues to hit his weakness in the field can be hidden. If he's struggling at the plate for any prolonged time, something may have to be done but with a team that has Pie and Theriot starting, the Cubs need his bat.
  19. And the Cubs should do this for Bartman now, do it when they play the Mets and have Alou be the catcher. The Cubs asked him to do it last year. Bartman understandably refused. Or am I dreaming? Now I'm doubting myself on this, so don't completely believe me here. I'm really not sure now that I think about it if it was simply proposed as an idea or if they actually asked him. I can't tell you if you're dreaming CCP but I hope if the Cubs did ask, that he would say yes and there would be all cheers for the kid when he threw the pitch.
  20. And the Cubs should do this for Bartman now, do it when they play the Mets and have Alou be the catcher.
  21. So the Cubs should trade Soriano for Roberts then?
  22. Nice move to the inside by Cedeno and good throw by Lee.
  23. Has Lee been playing off the runner at first all year?
  24. 24 pitch inning, let's keep that going at the very least. Man, ARam is slow.
