  1. Maybe it should be renamed the Pinoccio thread. :^o :^o :^o :^o :^o The more lies we hear, the bigger it gets?
  2. Oh and snood, sorry about the sheep comment. I know you can think for yourself. I just think you should let others determine whether or not they think a given poster has anything worthwhile to say...then again, I'm sure others appreciate the guidance. I'll shaddup now.
  3. sorry, I was in a foul mood yesterday. If you want to deny others your reasoning, and snood wants to tell people to listen to you, that's your prerogative. I've been around a here awhile, and enjoy reading the discussion, though I seldom have time to contribute. I recently read your views on park factor in another thread and find you a more enjoyable read when you make a point. I still hate the rudeness schtick... but whatever.
  4. Not at all. NSBB has been great because there are so many "number savvy" people here. great discussion and perspective. But if you know what you're talking about that should stand on its own, without someone rushing to your defense. and if you're wrong (or even if you're right) then people should feel comfortable debating you without being made to look foolish. The ability to have discussion, disagree respectfully and then be expected to back up your arguments is what makes it interesting. Your arrogant "because I said so" attitude (I suspect its just a schtick - but still) and the sheep that follow you are just annoying... I've said too much...back to my original point...let the man disagree snood, it makes for good banter
  5. This is what is ruining NSBB...too strong a word...distracting from the greatness of NSBB
  6. In response to the thread title... Its never a good idea to shine the Bruce-signal unless gotham is in real trouble. We don't want to be known as "the Board who cried Bruce" now do we?
  7. Exactly. I think that should be taken into account when evaluating that trade.
  8. If ever THink about the circumstance surrounding that team, who was making the decisions and the perceived (by management and us) glut of pitching in the minors. He may have never gotten a shot.
  9. it's printed on a towel. Yeah that was bad. not only was that bad, that was Prior, no?
  10. yep --Even if we go to camp with this team, I bet we'll add one or two new players before the start of the season. Yeah, crappy NRIs if/when someone gets hurt.
  11. --Banzai! May the Cubs win the World Series for ten-thousand years! It seems like they haven't won it in 10000 years. I must have winning soon.
  12. it kind of is when you could get equal production for 10% of the cost by giving the job to gallagher. the lieber signing alone isn't going to break the cubs. it doesn't really improve them either. but you combine lieber's 3.5 million with dempster's 5 million, marquis' 6 million, eyre's 4 million, and blanco's 3 million that's around 21-22 million that could be easily replaced by cheaper players and spent on 1 or 2 very good players. jon lieber was a pointless signing. it wasn't a horrible signing that's going to cost the cubs the season, but it's jim hendry's usual pointless signing done for the sole purpose that he doesn't trust rookies to fill less-important jobs. How could you know that? You know, I could get a good look at a T-Bone steak by sticking my head up a bulls ass, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word?[/quote] I love that line!!! May i use it in the future. It is not copyright protected is it? It's from Tommy Boy
  13. Every team that looked at Prior's medical records didn't think he'd pitch much if at all this season. The only way made sense is if you knew he would come back in 2009, and the Cubs knew he wouldn't.
  14. I'd love to even be in a position to say "no" when someone offers me $1M for something. I'm thinkin' I'd be more excited about being in a position to say yes.
  15. "How do you half-expect something?" the same way you have "half a mind" to do something
  16. It may be a real thing, but it's value is artificially inflated. Guys who "can leadoff" are given greater market value, for no good reason. Roberts' value lies in his production numbers, not in his supposed ability to hit leadoff. There's nothing wrong with going after a player like Roberts, there is something wrong with going after a guy like Roberts because he can leadoff and thus paying a premium for that arbitrary qualification. If you'd quote all of what I said, I think we're saying the same thing. I said why not just keep DeRosa (not a traditional leadoff hitter) and bat him first...you get the same production and keep the young pitchers.
  17. He played 413 innings there in 2001. That year his defense was bad at 2B and SS
  18. NOt working for me either, but it was literally 5 minutes ago...and to be clear the headline doesn't say it happened but that its likely. Not to quote myself, but they've changed the title. It no longer says likely. But the article itself still says "almost certainly going to happen"

  20. Care to elaborate? Yes, people on this board need to take the blue tinted sunglasses off and realize this deal is a steal for us. We getting one of the best leadoff men in baseball, an all-star and another great club house guy for pretty much nothing. You guys are blowing your loads over the 2 pitching prospects that have showed us NOTHING. Ok, stop referring to him as a leadoff man already. There is absolutely no such thing. Roberts plays 2nd base, not some artificial lineup position with imaginary responsibilities. While I agree that I'd rather have the better second baseman than the better "leadoff hitter", leadoff is not artificial. Stolen bases are overrated but OBP in the number one slot is not. Getting Roberts extra 40 points of OBP over Soriano in the one slot, and Sorianos extra 140 points of slugging (although you lose 40 points of OBP) lower in the order. My only problem is why not just put Derosa in the leadoff slot and hang onto the prospects?
  21. A statement from himself (not his lawyer) the day the Mitchell report came out would have been a good start instead we get a press release from his agent several days later. Sometimes people listen to bad advice. ie Ted Kennedy and his whole career So you're saying Clemens drove under the influence of steroids?
  22. If there's anywhere its appropriate its in a fairly meatless thread about the man himself.
