  1. now we're on to something. These guys are marginal players. Why not let marginal prospects with upside start over them. No one would be asking to play Choi ahead of Lee, but it was stinking Karros!
  2. This is a good sign. I liked remmy, but it's good to see that the organization can cut bait. In fact, that's probably the fishing analogy that allowed Baker to come to terms with this decision.
  3. Not only is neither OF lineup is going to happen, gut feeling has it tha Jose Macias is prolly going to start and hit leadoff. My thoughts as well. H-worth, Macias, Burnitz left to right.
  4. But by the same token, in this era most HOF caliber players will ot remain for an entire carreer in Tor, KC, Florida and Tampa. If they are that good, they'll go to a money team.
  5. Luis Gonzalez looks like one of the opponents from Mike Tysons punch out.
  6. I've got a baaad feeling about this inning.
  7. He's got two more in him. Get him outta there Prior at 99 pitches is a far better option than anything we have in the bullpen for the 8th. He's pitched over 110 already in a game since he's been back, and it's not too hot out today, he'll be fine. Give us one more Mark and turn it over to Dempster! Maybe, but a pinch hitter would have been valuable right there.

  9. Nice comments on Cruz, though of course non-commital.
  10. Its the softly part that bothers me most
  11. And JHJ replies with a two pitch AB. Didn't he get the memo?
  12. sore quad and ofer yesterday. Might have asked for a day off.
  13. I like Dusty using Deptster in the tie game here. Not much to give credit for, but that's forward thinking.
  14. that's what the cubs thought they were doing when they signed remlinger and hawkins. neither of those signings worked out very well. relievers' (especially 7th-8th inning guys) performance just vary too much from year to year for anybody to be a sure thing. i'm not saying the cubs shouldn't ever sign a guy like that again, but there's a decent chance that it will end up backfiring. Very true. But if Hendry has to give up money/prospects to get a proven reliever we sure could use another one this year and beyond. That's the thing. There's no such thing as a proven (which would imply reliable and sure) reliever. Releif pitchers are a crap-shoot.
  15. I believe it is just for the rest of the season so that he can help the club anyway he can. He will have surgery after the season to clean out his shoulder and then be ready to return to the rotation next year. Yuck, Surgery. I didnt hear that. *cry* Poor kerry. Give him a bat. Or there's always the used car business.
  16. He similarly nixed a trade to Cincy a couple years ago, he probably feels the same way he did then. I think he's a real pro and will handle it just fine. He played left field a couple years ago, was his defense adequate? If he can defend in left, does anyone think we can get him for Mitre and have SD eat some of his salary. Not unless the Cubs have moved San Jose while I wasn't looking.
  17. some of us saw it annoying when it was starting. they weren't as bad as they were playing, but they aren't this good either. Chase Utley for the Phillies is great. I love all the main sites and sourses saying the phils are shopping Billy Wagner. Yeah in the heat of the playoff race they are going to get rid of their closer. viewtopic.php?t=22446&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 I was nearly laughed off the board for suggesting it, but I'm now convinced that Houston is the team to beat in the WC race. And don't count Washington out so fast. [-X
  18. Craig - That sounds good in theory, but if Nomar does get injured again next year, and Cedno does start, Hendry will have to find and Enrique Wilson-esque backup. That back-up will magically find his way into the lineup and Cedeno to the bench. So, clearly, I can not chose the glass infront of me! (there's no undermining Dusty's dizzying intelect)
  19. I think starting out, he'll be the first option off the bench. If recovery is slow, he could remain there.
  20. Bobby Dernier Mitch Williams And how has noone said GA Hill?
  21. At this point 11-7 would be considered a success. The STL series is key. Must take 2of3.
  22. What does the amount of money one makes have to do with it? If a sales manager sucks, does an intern(s) have a right to boo him? Is the intern under contract? Is corey boo-ing his boss? Are they doing sales in front of 20k drunk people who hope that they make the sale and have been hoping for years? I understand what you are trying to say, but this is a ridiculous example. If you understand what I'm saying, then it is not a ridiculous example. I stated an intern because it could be an intern from a whole different department. The whole point is the fans pay money to see a game. You boo if your seat comes loose, you boo if the lights don't work for a night game, you boo if some idiot runs on the field, but paying money and wanting to see a champion doesn't mean it's okay to boo a player. What sense does it make to boo your player and not boo the opposing player(s) who may be dominating your team? My grandparents are stockholders of merck. They were booing in 2002.
  23. Two more series' left and the Cubs are 12.5 back. That losing streak didn't help, but if they can make up a game or two, they're in good shape heading into the Cardinals difficult part of the schedule.
