  1. I’m guessing this is using WAR. Others have highlighted better than I am able to the valuation of defense there. So maybe not as impressive as it sounds. Or keep that valuation in mind when you look at pitching. in that case it matters what kind of WAR you’re using. FWAR is fielding independent, bWAR uses runs/9 or something. If that’s bWAR, how bad is this pitching!? I’m guessing it’s fWAR, and the pitching plays better because of defense.
  2. I’m wondering if, hear me out, maybe we should focus on both starting and relief pitching as we look at trades.
  3. Yes. An amazing pitcher who was obviously a head case. Him needing a personal catcher is not justification for catcher ERA in general. The fact that you knew who I meant says something.
  4. Ross is a really bad example for your argument. No matter what the front office said, we all know after the fact that Ross was signed because Sir Yips-a-lot and needed his teddy bear to feel secure and make good pitches.
  5. Could be. Might be that they both have that super-serious, no fun allowed personality and it looks like they’re angry with each other rather than just sharing a vibe.
  6. Watch Happs comment to Bregman just before the strike two call on Seiya. This and other interactions appear as though Happ does not appreciate Bregman’s constant input.
  7. Does it look to anyone else like Bergman and Happ don’t like each other? interaction in the dugout after Happ homer did not seem positive.
  8. This will continue until gam threads say cobs. I know this site is professional and all now, but we have a duty. Fix the gam threads.
  9. I feel like PCA could benefit from some eye black. The glare off his cheeks has to be blinding.
  10. Just checking in to see if anyone has made the 3 losses, poised for another 10 game win streak joke yet.
  11. Ferguson and Peralta have been added recently. Not that Peralta. Cubs picked up Luis Peralta off waivers from the Cards.
  12. Go ahead and get Peralta, but there's no need for a second starter. Add Peralta and you are right back to where you were before Horton went down. Brown, Assad and Wicks have earned the right to prove themselves as long relievers, at least. I think it's very possible Brown surprises you and develops into a playoff starter over the course of the year. Peralta, Boyd, Imanaga, Cabrera, and hopefully Steele or Brown shows enough to push one of them out of a spot.
  13. I'm beginning to wonder if Nico and Busch are the same person, like Clark Kent and Superman. They never show up at the same time.
  14. I don't see how someone who has watched Berti, Brujan, Wisdom, Workman, Lopez, Cooper, Mastrobouni, Bote, and Madrigal accrue 1000 PAs over the last two years can hold this opinion. *** I left Morel's 90 OPS and Paredes' 82 OPS off this list and calculation because each was at some point a starter (i.e "Plan A"). What I listed was all bench and non-Catchers. And 90% of those AB's will be consumed by Shaw this year. I stand by including Wisdom who got 31 DH AB's in 2024 because all of Busch PCA and Bellinger were in your top 9 PA guys that year.
  15. This isn't a thread, it is the comment section of an article, conveniently placed in the discussion forum to compel engagement so that clickable search results will bring Googlers into an active community.
  16. I'm not sure you have to address catcher. Between Amaya, Ayers and Mo, I feel like it's covered next year. Maybe not the strength it is this year but Ayers is a switch-hitter. If you don't think Ayers will be ready, it can be a patch job. I think Ayers is the real thing and will contribute significantly next year.
  17. edit***Turns out I already said this in this thread.
  18. Cubs pitchers will keep getting hurt until we give Brown a chance to prove he belongs in the rotation. Imagine getting Steele and Boyd at the trade deadline.
  19. That is the most unbelievable part of yesterday’s win.
  20. He would be 3rd in OPS but lacks the ABs to qualify. When you look at all players instead of qualified players, he's 10th. That's amazing...also... he has been protected. Two things can be true. Mo Baller crushes RHP. He has the potential to be a second chance at Schwarber.
