  1. I'd really rather keep as many of the 2014 control guys as possible. Even DeJesus. I don't see any reason to be cutting into that team. Garza, Feldman, Navarro, Marmol, Gregg, Baker. Should be able to get a few decent prospects out of that.
  2. Only caught a bit of the game on the radio, but from what I can tell from the box score: Reds 6 1b, 1 2b, 4 BB = 5 runs Cuvs 4b 1b, 2 2b, 4 BB = 2 runs Worst sequencing team ever.
  3. Valbuena probably sticks. I don't really think Feldman's evaluation has changed at all. He's a 4.00ish peripherals pitcher who may or may not be able to handle a full season in a rotation. I won't turn him down if he wants to come back cheap-ish, but if he finishes the season strong he'll probably get more than I'd be willing to pay for him. Garza is going to be a 30-year-old pitcher with three consecutive years of DL time looking for a large, multiyear deal. I really doubt I'll be interested in what he ends up going for. Mostly, I just want to make sure we don't trade deadline dump a lot of the guys with 2014 control.
  4. Make that two walks. His up to the minute line: 69 PAs, 274/348/452 10.1% BB, 13.0% K I know it's not normalized over that few PA, but how's the BABIP? .280

  6. Not for me. It's just the fact that they are secretly ok is probably irrelevant because they are buried way too deep now.
  7. 25-22 in the imaginary standings now. Still pretty solid.
  8. Well, now it's 3 runs with one inning to go. Perfect Rondon time.
  9. Rondon should be pure mop-up duty. No more. It feels like how awful he's been has gone somewhat unnoticed.
  10. Yes. I definitely believe that there's a lot of Cubs fans on the internet who know much more about the minor leagues than the national prospect pundits. Those guys have to divide their attention 30 ways, which isn't enough to give more than a passing glance to any one team. For most of them, their knowledge peaks in the offseason when they write their top 10/30 lists for each team. That's when they have time to really dig deep into a single team.
  11. Congratulations to Kane County on becoming the most interesting team in the system. It's close, but Almora's two walks and Pierce Johnson's start tonight pulls it out for them.
  12. Really, really annoyed that catcher seemingly has become a hole that'll need attention. We kind of knew this was a possibility, but it would have been really nice (and still would be) if Castillo can hold it down. He's still technically showing a lot of value, but the indicators are all pretty negative.
  13. I'd lean toward Appel ahead of Soler, but either way is pretty defensible. I think Soler's walk rate has got to be about 10% now. That's just studly.
  14. Yeah, as far as I'm concerned, if they can keep up something similar to this through the trade deadline, then Epstein did his job for this season. I also don't want to see them gut 2014 too deeply at the deadline. I'd rather not have to replace guys like DeJesus, Barney, Villanueva, Fujikawa, Hairston this offseason. Dump the guys whose contracts are expiring, reload those spots with more short-term FAs in the offseason, and take another shot in 2014 while you wait for your farm system to mature.
  15. At the risk of this turning into the "ZOMG look how negatively varianced the Cubs are thread," this one comes courtesy of DocPeterWimsey over at BleacherNation http://www.bleachernation.com/2013/05/24/the-cubs-are-10-games-under-500-and-the-numbers-say-thats-pretty-unfair/comment-page-1/#comment-304727
  16. The Cubs have 29 WP+PB, worst in the NL. The league average is 19.
  17. Yeah, if he's had any sort of arm issues, then pass.
  18. I'm tempted. Does Manaea have any sort of arm problems or is it just the hip thing?
  19. I'm really, really jealous of the Pirates for getting Jason Grilli.
  20. It's not a good team because of negative variance, no more or less.
  21. Only The Cubs is just hazing Theo.
