  1. Jackson through two innings: ERA: 18.00 xFIP: 1.25
  2. Peripherals or not, Theo is permabanned from signing expensive free agent pitchers. It just doesn't go well for him.
  3. @DCameronFG By wOBA differential, the Cubs have outperformed the Giants, Diamondbacks, A's, Orioles, and Yankees, among others.
  4. My point is that the team is better than it's record, and should be treated as such going forward.
  5. The lineup is within 1/10th of a run of league average. It leads the NL in XBH.
  6. So why has the bad baseball team had essentially an even run differential through almost two full months?
  7. As annoying as Castro's stagnation is, the only question involving him is "Will he be good or great as our starting SS for the next seven years?"
  8. It's pretty average and operating under horrifying negative variance.
  9. So like I said: Outscored opponents 17-15 in the last five games. 1-4. Because Cubs.
  10. Seems like Borbon would be perfect for that role. So long as we were using him as a 6th outfielder and not something stupid like a leadoff man.
  11. He's got a K/BB ratio of 36. But his K/WP+PB ratio is just 2. I think he might not be very good.
  12. Still three innings to go, but if this score holds, the Cubs will outscore their opponents 17-15 over the last five games while going 1-4.
  13. Why is Borbon leading off against left-handed pitching a thing?
  14. Also FAs are getting nerfed by a variety of factors, so our financial advantage doesn't mean as much. And the Cardinals are more or less set up to win 1100 games in the next decade.
  15. The WTP is legit. His Oswing and Zswing percentages microscopically above his career averages. If he's going deeper into counts, it's probably because his Swinging Strike percentage is up to 9.7% compared to a career of 7.6%
  16. The OBP/BB problem? Most of the problems are the legacy players, and we seem to be using those because Epstein focused most of his budget on pitching. It makes sense, even though it's annoying.
  17. Because our pythagorean wins say we should be .500. And BP's third-order wins keeps insisting that we're even better. The starting pitching is good, the offense should be OK if the platoons keep working, and the bullpen just can't be as bad as it's performed (and had a special knack for being bad in exactly the wrong, concentrated way). I think I can keep the delusion up at least through the draft.
  18. I refuse to give up just yet. I know it's gambler's fallacy, but we are owed a hot streak at this point.
  19. Well, we tried a ground ball, a strikeout and a fly ball. That's everything.
  20. Samarzdija's bunt was almost as sexy as his hair.
  21. Maybe if he got struck by lightning, it would imbue him with either the power to be a useful defensive catcher or to put up an acceptable offensive line that doesn't depend on a .380 BABIP. Or maybe both? Does lightning strike the same place twice? I feel like that might be a thing, but I can't recall.
  22. I think we need to think about adding catcher to the offseason shopping list.
