  1. Pie was kinda owned by Suppan last night. Shudder to think what Yovani would do to him right now. He had good PAs, IMO. He had one walk and should've had another. Suppan got bailed by a bad call on a full count. He missed another double by a foot.
  2. So we weren't serious about finding Cedeno a regular spot, and Johnson is getting starts against a righty. :banghead:
  3. Agreed. Zell *needs* to wring every last dollar out of this. MLB would just prefer it to be their guy.
  4. I think it would be difficult to justify ditching Hendry right now. The Cubs just won the most they have in April, and if they win the division for the second straight year, I don't know that Cuban will come in and just clean house. Now if the Cubs don't win the division, I think it's all fair game. It depends on how they win the division, I would think. 90 is a magic number to me. There's got to be a 90-win team in there somewhere with all the money he's been allowed to spend.
  5. The supply of sportswriters who don't get that female athletes tend to peak much, much sooner than male athletes will never dry up, so I'm suspecting Wie won't be the last of her kind.
  6. The case of Samarzidja continues to fascinate me. The scouts on the Cubs seem to love him, sabermetric projections say he's a non-prospect with no shot at contributing in the bigs.
  7. He hasn't pitched in a few days. The Cubs would put Hart or Lieber in this spot, but they both threw 20+ pitches last night, and with both of them used to being starters the Cubs would like not to have them pitch a second game in a row after throwing that many. Either Wood or Wuertz will likely pitch the 9th. So we can't use the mop-up guys because they were busy losing in a close game last night? The classic Cub "Our wrong move is right because our previous wrong move forced our hand" maneuver.
  8. Kevin Hart in one-run games, Carlos Marmol in eight-run games. Don't you get it?
  9. Seriously? I thought a few weeks ago it was almost done or something.
  10. I could go for that. I'm fairly certain there is no verb in the English language that couldn't replace "interviewed" in that sentence and I'd still be okay with it.
  11. Does Pie play an exceptionally deep CF, or is it just me? Not saying I have a problem with it, just curious.
  12. new rule: analyzing a player's swing or a pitcher's mechanics is not allowed on this board. Anything anyone else might mock later will be banned, apparently? What does that leave?
  13. Woohoo! I got the TVants stream to work just in time to see the first pitch I get to see get sent into left field by...
  14. I'm in Sterling Illinois and not getting it. My county borders the Mississippi, how on earth am I considered "Chicago metro area?" And does this mean I should buy a gun?
  15. I just remembered I'm in blackout range (but not in WCIU range). Shoot. And my regular sopcast link has every game but that one. Double shoot.
  16. Results-oriented thinking is tempting, but the move was right or wrong regardless of Marquis' performance tonight. What about results-oriented thinking, as in, the usual result of Marquis pitching is bad. That works.
  17. I'm fed up with Lou's handling of middle relief. Step 1) Take a good, young lefty starter and bump him from the rotation for a longtime buddy of yours with little competition. Then, instead of using him in long relief, make him a loogy. Step 2) Use your mop-up guy, the worst on the team, in a one-run game. Essentially prove that the concept of leverage is completely beyond you. Step 3) Keep cycling through relievers in a bad inning instead of letting a guy get settled in. Step 4) Moan about how bad your middle relief is.
  18. Okay, I'm over my game-thread emoness. I'm still annoyed by some of the playing-time decisions and bullpen usage, but it's just a single loss.
  19. Okay, now I wish we had a slugger in the leadoff spot.
  20. Ward was way behind a fastball, then looked foolish looking at one, then struck out feebly on a breaking pitch. He is clearly overmatched and isn't ready for the majors.
  21. One of the best Cubs starts in my lifetimes, and by this time tomorrow it may well be completely wasted/erased.
  22. Or they'll just trade for Ronny Cedeno. He can do the work of six fielders simultaneously. Even if he could, he'd still get passed over for Theriot. Stupid Cubs management playing a guy with a .400 OBP. Morons, I tell ya. If we're going that route, Cedeno's is better. Of course, nobody would ever be silly enough to make a small-sample argument for no reason other than to be pointlessly argumentative.

  24. Fairly soon, teams pitching against Ryan Theriot will employ a defensive shift that puts six fielders in short and medium right field.
