  1. Out of nowhere, fangraph favors the Brewers to win.
  2. All right, I'd be happy to just get out of this tied now.
  3. Bring back Marmol! And no defensive replacement in left? (second-guessing, i know)
  4. Theriot did it for the first out in the inning I believe giving us two outs to work with. Fukudome ended the inning. I will take the one that gives us the chance to make up for it. Then you would be wrong and need to brush up on your run expectancy tables.
  5. Honestly, I'm not sure how fundamentally sound Fukudome really is. I wonder if Japanese players sort of have an in-built reputation for it. So far today, he's missed a cutoff man on a play at third where he had no shot (Gwynn Jr. had been running with the pitch), he's botched a calling play in the outfield and he's gotten himself picked off.
  6. Yes. Though, to be fair, I wouldn't have bashed Theriot for getting called out on a bad play at the plate. There's a huge difference between that and making the first out at third.
  7. 1.2 superclutch, high-leverage innings today for Marmol. Fangraphs puts his Win Percentage Added at .247. Huge. He might be able to pass Papelbon with this performance for Most Valuable Reliever using my pet stat: http://baseballprospectus.com/statistics/sortable/index.php?cid=204021
  8. He's hit the ball well ALL year. No one wants to admit it and it's kinda of suck how much the Theriot haters want him to fail, just so they are proven correct. We want him in the role that he belongs: the second-best shortstop on the team. We said it before the season, and the performances have proven it out (though not in the way we expected).
  9. And every game thread of every game of every team in the history of baseball and the interwebs thinks that the umpire is terrible.
  10. Feel free to look up the definitions of "part-time" and "mostly." My post was perfectly accurate.
  11. You've got it hard for leverage indices, don't you? Absolutely. It's a huge stat, and one of the few places a manager can make a huge difference on the team.
  12. Win percentage added, from fangraphs.com: Carlos Zambrano: .116 (pitching only) Carlos Marmol: .169 Exhibit A on how high-leverage, shut-down relievers can be as valuable, if not more, than starters.
  13. A career OBP of almost .350 in almost 900 PA? Result of that ability to get hot and hit a bunch of singles for about a month at a time. That's probably true, but as much as I dislike him, that has some value. It just doesn't jive with his minor-league numbers, which project him to be more of a .320 OBP guy.
  14. Isn't there any site out there that keeps track of OOBs for players? I know I used to be able to find them.
  15. "Fan" threw something at Braun out in left. I'm really sick of that happening.
  16. So people aren't allowed to show their displeasure when players make stupid decisions? No people can but a lot of the people posting have criticized not just the play. They have said the things they said a month ago. Not a good player, shouldn't be playing, isn't gritty ... etc. It's funny. Theriot used to be the guy with the horrible stats who supposedly did the little things. Now he's the guy screwing up all the little things with great stats.
  17. Middle infielder up with the bases loaded. Pinch hit for Ronny!
  18. Fukudome with a bunt that makes grown men weep. edit to add: For those not watching the game, it was a swinging bunt, not intentional.
  19. Ground ball in the hole, ss sort of falls as he fields it and tries to make a throw from his butt to second. It gets away from the second baseman, and GRITIOT makes the cardinal mistake of risking the first out at third base. He's thrown out. Lee advances to second on that throw, and when they throw to second that ball gets away, but Lee smartly stays put.
  20. Someone needs to look up the major-league record for outs on the basepaths. Theriot has got to be on pace.
