  1. Clean single to right, Brewers send Fielder, Fukudome makes a solid throw and he was out easily. Soto sort of spun away from the hit as Fielder tried to bowl him over, he didn't take a full shot.
  2. I say they try to squeeze at least the beginning of the seventh out of Zambrano. He's not young anymore, it's a high-leverage situation, and I have no faith in our relievers not named Carlos.
  3. Brenly just said the Cubs haven't had this problem so far this year. That may be the first one they've dropped, but they've had plenty of near misses.
  4. Zambrano has no out pitch today with two strikes. It's costing him in pitch count and ... HOLY HELL! WILL THE CUBS EVER LEARN TO CALL FOR A FUDGING BALL!?!???!?!
  5. Wow. Regardless of who wins this game, the Brewers are taking idiotic risks with a good young pitcher. I fear the Reds and Brewers in the future of the NL Central, but Yost and Baker are making me feel better all the time.
  6. For those of us not in front of a TV, what happened? Reed Johnson drag bunted toward first. Fielder fielded (heh) and went to tag Johnson, who tried to slide under it but was tagged. Gallardo had been running to cover first and had to jump over Johnson on the ground. He landed funny on his legs and looked like he twisted his knee. He seems to be staying in.
  7. Zambrano's ERA now sits at a lovely 1.99 with two outs in the fifth.
  8. First out of the fifth, presuming no runs have scored, knocks Zambrano's ERA below 2.00.
  9. 65 pitches through 4 for Zambrano. He needs a quick inning or two to get back on track.
  10. Zambrano flirting with danger the last two innings but getting out of it.
  11. uh obviously. cedeno is ozzie smith without the back flips. Yep. Only Ozzie ever made a play in the hole. Theriot was a part-time minor-league shortstop, playing mostly second. Is it so hard to believe he doesn't have the arm for second at the major-league level?
  12. Two singles with the bat, but he just gloved one away with his weak arm.
  13. right now he is but he started like this last year too. .175 .230 .298 coming into today. Through his first 13 games last season he was hitting .260 .302 .400. Not quite the same thing.
  14. Soriano chopping weak grounders to third. Glad to see he's right back to pre-injury form.
  15. Cubs pitchers throwing WPs at double the rate when Soto is in versus Blanco thus far. Sample size fluke or issue?
  16. Not really. There's been a lot of borderline pitches called strikes, but they were all very close either way. There haven't been any Eric Gregg moments. it seems you are the only one who thinks this way. I'm comfortable with that. MLB umps are way better than they get credit for. The reason strike zones look so wide is because of the camera angle. Am I wrong, or are most of the so-called "wide strike" calls on the outside portion to right-handed hitters? That's the optical illusion of the camera angle coming from the right of the pitcher.
  17. Yes. Hella good pitches painting the black, too. The last one was on the chalk of the other batters box. That is not a strike. Camera angle is playing tricks on your eyes.

  20. And what information are you intentionally omitting?
  21. To be fair, Pie is being outplayed by his rival for playing time, even though the sample isn't meaningful. I'm really not comprehending what the excuse for Cedeno is. pie's "rival" has a sparkling .679 OPS against RHP... johnson isn't good enough against RHP to justify playing him over a prospect who's trying to find a groove. I agree, but I can at least see a sane case for the opposite.

  23. Ryan Theriot kicked my dog. I wish he had broken his foot doing it.
