  1. You better watch questioning him, he might get mad at you. He can freaking bring it. He's couldn't get half as mad at me as I am at him.
  2. Lou Piniella is a liar. If I wasn't broke, I'd make sure I got a ticket to the next home game so I could drive four hours and tell him to his face.
  3. I wonder what the limit on leverage index is. Tie game, bases loaded, 2 outs, bottom of the ninth registered at a 10.87.
  4. Ouchies http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/280504118_Brewers_Astros_68988244_lbig.png
  5. That is a hideous comparison. I don't remember anyone ever painting educators with a broad brush like some people do the military. Watch the movie and then decide what sort of brush is used. Tip for the graduating senior who wants to be a sports journalist; a strawman is never a good argument. Second tip: the industry is dying, the job market is hideous, salaries are plummeting and you should want to be anything but a sports journalist.
  6. Wow, I checked Willits on PECOTA, and it just hates him. Median projection: .266 .353 .368 90th percentile projection: .299 .394 .426 That's pretty harsh for a guy whose put up a .400 OBP (park and league adjusted) two straight seasons.
  7. Yep. There is a LOT of similarity in cricket and baseball, and while I enjoy both, there's not going to be too much room for both as major sports in a single country/culture.
  8. Trailing 6-4 in the 8th, Astros get the leadoff man on for the heart of the order. The remainder of the inning was Classic Cub: Warning track fly ball that makes the crowd a little excited but everyone knows it isn't really going. Ground ball in the hole to short, the lead runner (Tejada) is out by an eyelash and comes up limping. Strikeout on a slider way off the plate.
  9. If Dempster falls off we have exactly 1 good starting pitcher left Which is just about on par with the rest of the league. It's rare to see any team with a bonafide 1-2 punch these days. Diamondbacks say hi, and raise you a -3.
  10. Are you sure? From what I'm reading, all hell has broke loose and the cubs haven't done anything right all year. I'm having flashbacks. "Shut up you stupid stathead, we're in the middle of a pennant race and Prior is a horse. He's got perfect mechanics and nothing will happen! Pitchers used to throw this many pitchers lal the time!" Not quite the same thing, I know :)
  11. Oh dear lord no. If anyone in our organization would make me feel uncomfortable with a six-run lead, it's him. You know it's coming. I fully expect Marmol to experience a period of dead arm some time in July with Wood having soreness/tendinitis around the same time. This is going to be a crazed summer. Simple rule: If you can't occasionally make AA hitters swing and miss, you can't get big-leaguers out.
  12. 25 pitches isn't bad, but when he threw 25 of them for no damn reason, and all the warmup pitches between innings, yes it could hurt him. FYP.

  14. I'm less worried about his arm long-term than his availability for high-leverage situations. I'd hate to be in extra-innings and have to use Chad Fox or something.
  15. Well, he won't be pitching if it's within six runs either way.

  17. shut up don't let god hear you If God is taking an interest in the affairs of the Cubs, it can only be concluded that he's a filthy sadist who hates me.

  19. I honestly almost hope Marmol's arm falls off right there. I don't want this sort of stupidity to go unpunished.

  21. This is not that hard, Piniella. Find some garbage down in AAA, give him a roster spot. Anytime the game is not within five runs, throw him out there. Abuse him arm in this manner until it falls off, then replace him with another garbage AAA guy. It's called "mop-up duty," and it's been around longer than you have. He can bring it. I wish I was in front of him right now. Oooh, big scary Italian guy doesn't want to be called a liar and likes to scream? Well, don't lie then, jerkwad. Lous a Hall of Fame manager you better not question him, or he may snap at you like he did the reporter for questioning him the other day.

  23. Apparently you haven't seen next offseason's free agent list. It's starting pitcher city. The Cubs have all five of their current rotation signed through 2009 plus some guys in AAA that have a shot to be considered. I seriously doubt the Cubs pick up any more starting pitching. That disappoints me severely. Zambrano is great and eventually the space aliens will return Hill, but the rest are thoroughly upgradable.
  24. I'm still convinced this is the best Cubs team of my lifetime (since 82), but I can't even enjoy it having to deal with all this garbage.
