I'm honestly confused. Are we talking about HRs vs. BBs, balls vs. strikes, pitches in the strike zone vs. pitches out of the strike zone, or pitches close to the strike zone vs. pitches nowhere near?
Marshall hasn't accrued enough service time to be allowed more than 2 HRs. The bad you can be and still play is directly proportional to your service time.
No defense in walks. Missals ain't good either but if you can't even throw a strike, you have problems. We're not really arguing whether giving up a HR is better than walking someone, are we? No. I'm talking about throwing strikes vs balls. Are you? Because that involves the batter's choices as well and isn't purely on the pitcher. There is a way to get a good result out of a pitch outside the strike zone.
It's all about aesthetics and emotion. A batter hits a home run off of you, he beat you in honorable combat. You give a batter a walk, it's frustrating and dishonorable.
You missed Adam Dunn, Joey Votto, Paul Bako, and Jerry Hairston hitting home runs in the 2nd inning No I heard those on XM, I didn't know that everyone who has ever played for the Reds went yard as well though. Except Corey Patterson. He struck out every time.
