  1. Cedeno's success is only unexpected if you are one of those people who insist that AAA results have absolutely no predictive value whatsoever.
  2. Lou's a proven liar.
  3. KZone had them as strikes. this just in, k zone is wrong a lot Yeah, you probably had a better vantage point than the home plate umpire and ESPN's pitch tracker. They were borderline but they weren't crap calls. They were terrible. The fact that umpires aren't willing to adjust the zone as the rules say they must doesn't make it ok, it means umpires suck at their jobs. No one's eyes are qualified to tell the relative location of a pitch to within inches when looking from a funny angle, compressing a 3-D image into 2-D.
  4. I would live with Soriano at leadoff if we could just get 7 of our best players out there against righties. I'm not so wildly optimistic as to hope for 8.
  5. KZone had them as strikes. As I said before, who are we going to believe? An objective system or the partisan eyes of fans watching from a skewed camera angle.
  6. Another classic: http://www.fangraphs.com/tgraphs/20040925_Cubs_Mets_0.png
  7. You're a Cubs fan. If anyone should be used to losing games we ought to win, it's us. This probably deserves a ban: http://www.fangraphs.com/tgraphs/20031014_Marlins_Cubs_0.png
  8. What I hate about these Cardinals is that they aren't overperforming in any easy to measure way. They aren't BABIP all-stars, they aren't winning every one-run game or outperforming their run differential. Their pitchers are just mysteriously throwing strikes and avoiding home runs at solid rates.
  9. Every out by Cedeno buys him three days on the bench. He must OBP 1.000 to start consistently.
  10. Johnson hits a 305 foot pop fly that looks kinda cool because it was right down the line and therefore close-ish to a home run.
  11. can he do that? If Theriot can then I guess it is physically possible. Theriot can will the ball over the fence. I'm not sure he could throw it over. In three.
  12. Marquis is still in the rotation.... ...while Rich Hill is in Iowa Sean Marshall didn't make the team out of camp, then became a loogy. Even with a place to play Fontenot played over Cedeno. Marmol plays in blowouts only. Sucking Wurtz comes in with bases loaded and no one out. Kevin Hart was used in a key game within one run. Soriano is leading off Reed Johnson starts versus righties.

  15. What an arm on Cedeno. Wonder if it'd be useful at SS. We'll never know...
  16. Cubs are on track for another key divisional series into a 2-1 loss despite outscoring the other team. That's a good sign in the long run, but a recipe for a very frustrating season that could have been a cakewalk (and might still be).
  17. The LFer was barely deeper than the SS when he picked it up. Moises Alou throws him out at home in that situation. And we're down three with the heart of the order coming up. NO reason to EVER send him unless the outfielder literally falls down before the ball gets to him.
  18. That's what I was wondering. Looked like they were going to concede the run to keep the DP in order. I would say because Wendell Kim is gone and we don't get baserunners thrown out at the plate by 30 feet for no reason.
  19. Down three late to the Cardinals, bases loaded, best hitters coming up. Cubs fans are on edge, and this is setting us up for same major angst if this fails.
  20. I'll settle for only one out from this Theriot plate appearance. And that doesn't include a fielder's choice/caught stealing delayed double play.
  21. Soriano selfishly moves his face out of the way of a high curve that could have brought the tying run up to the bat. Jerk.
