  1. Well that's just ridiculous.
  2. Not sure where to put this but Sveum said he'll meet with front office on Thursday to discuss the roster. Said Jackson and Vitters could both be called up this month and both would play everyday.
  3. Mayo also said on MLBN that he can work in the low 90's.
  4. we may have gotten nothing good for maholm/johnson if dempster went to atlanta. it still sucks because delgado is clearly the best of the bunch, but this seems like a decent haul. I could care less about the pieces maholm/johnson got us, the big catch in this was Delgado. I'm for quality over quanitity. You could care less (you mean you couldn't) about what is now our #4 overall prospect and top pitching prospect.
  5. As someone noted somewhere earlier, I'd bet it was King Felix Rosenthal says it was Dempster.
  6. Harold Reynolds just claimed the favorite rumor he's heard is Demp + Garza for Upton. Yeah, it's Harold Reynolds.
  7. Jackson ahead of Almora and Soler? What do you guys think of Mayo?
  8. Deplorable? WTF?
  9. Could it be that Brett Jackson is being used as a chip to try to bring a better return for Dempster or Garza? That was my initial thought when the news came down earlier.
  10. When they acquired him, it was to have him under their control for two seasons. They're selling him as a 2-month rental. Why would anyone expect what they got for him to be equivalent for what they gave up for him?
  11. I believe they have to notify the athletic department in some manner. O'Brien said only a few coaches (Ferentz, Marrone, O'Leary) have personally called to notify him that they were speaking with PSU players.
  12. When I was in Kansas City I saw a Royals/Mariners game and was thrilled to find out that Chris Getz' walk-up song is the music from RBI Baseball.
  13. Reportedly Illinois has 6 coaches in the PSU parking lot waiting to recruit players, staking things out. Sporting News/ESPN guys think even the Zooker would have been above that.
  14. really? Jeez wtf was I doing that week. He grabbed the lead during the middle part of his round on Sunday. Then he missed a 3-footer and Clarke went on a run.
  15. Tomorrow will be nice because a lot of the interesting/big name guys up high on the leaderboard will be teeing off after 8 a.m. central time.
  16. Goldstein clarified that Dempster alone doesn't net Lee.
  17. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3017957919029122909 I had almost forgotten how terrible Chip was. Almost. If only he had called that shot a "laser" it would have been Chiptastic. Chip with Dan Roan. Ick.
  18. Saw Baez today in Cedar Rapids. I think visually it's partly due to his waggle and leg kick but damn he has a quick bat. He ripped a single up the middle in his first AB then stole 2nd without a throw after getting an enormous jump. He was ahead 2-1 on his K but was late on an inside 93 mph fastball and whiffed on the breaking ball next pitch. Made 2-3 nice plays at SS. He definitely carries himself with some swagger. I never knew he had a tattoo of the MLB logo on the back of his neck.
  19. Williams tweeted that he made a tough decision and included the Nets logo. Woj and others immediately RT'ed that and confirmed that he told the Nets he was signing with them. 10 minutes later Broussard tweeted that according to a source, Williams was staying with the Nets. He's a clown.
  20. I cannot personally see a way we could afford both Parise and Suter without having to trade someone like Kane. And maybe that is their thought process. If they land either Parise or Suter or both, Kaner could be gone. Ugh. They are not going to trade Kane. Trades of guys mentioned below (Hammer, Frolik, etc.) are more likely. As would Sharp. Or an amnesty of Hossa.
  21. For a team that has been so worried about cap space the past couple years, spending over a million for such a non-essential player in any given year seems to be a waste. If all you are going to do is deal away your costly vets and stockpile prospects it doesn't make much sense to turn around and keep wasting millions on back-end guys. It's barely over a million a year for a guy who offers some size and stability on the back line. Things this team needs. I just don't see how that's a waste. The 5/6 D are important in the regular season if you want 2 and 7 to be worth a [expletive] come April. Agree. Here was SCH's take: http://www.secondcityhockey.com/2012/7/1/3130688/hawks-sign-sheldon-brookbank
