  1. I don't mean to start this thread as a debate but I need help in finding some articles about the statistical analysis between sacrifice bunts and runs scored vs. hitting and runs scored. I'm having trouble finding anything concrete. If anybody has any good links to articles debate the topic, I'd appreciate it.
  2. Sox fans hate him too, which makes it all the funnier that he showed up last night wearing all Sox gear.
  3. What a great time to bring up contract issue! Good luck in the world series, Paulie.
  4. I met Vance Law.
  5. I'm really don't understand the Girardi love. He's a first time manager who was the bench coach for the Yankees for two years. There's no doubt he's a very smart guy, but I'm not disappointed in the Cubs losing a chance to sign him after next season. Time will tell if he's a good manager, but in the meantime I'm not losing any sleep.
  6. He may have been less inclined to walk to first base if Berkman hadn't "danced" his way around the bases earlier, and if the Astros' dugout hadn't been high-fiving before the final out of the game, and if they hadn't celebrated on the field after Game 4. You're making something of nothing. Every player isn't a Pete Rose type who sprints around the bases every time he makes contact. I don't really care that Pujols did what he did, I was merely suggesting that Pujols has a squeaky clean reputation and he did the same thing Ramirez did. Manny is a showboat and made no bones about watching that homerun, its his image as a clown and as being arrogant that brought heat on him. Just seems like a double standard to me.
  7. Here's hoping to all the bandwagon fans still hanging on from '03 flock to the southside and stay there.
  8. It was a helluva homerun by Pujols but I haven't heard anyone giving him flack for his walking down the first base line as he watched that ball sail over the train tracks. Manny Ramirez did the same thing in a huge situation 2 years ago against the A's and Barry Zito in Game 5 of the ALDS. Ramirez was practically crucified in the media for it and I haven't heard a peep about Pujols do the same thing.
  9. O's named Perlozzo their permanent manager. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2188602
  10. How can zero heads roll after the debacle that was known as the 2005 season? The entire coaching staff is returning? Possible contract extentions for the manager and the GM? This is bizarro world.
  11. The A's are interviewing two in-house candidates for the manager opening, Bob Geren and Ron Washington http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2185819
  12. When Pedro signed with Mets, I thought they really overpaid for him. But after seeing his numbers this season, I have definitely changed my mind. .95 WHIP, 2.85 ERA. They might regret the deal in a few years when he finally starts to wear down but in the meantime he's been fantastic.
  13. That is nice work. The stats show that he's one heck of a ball player. A) How many of those situations were situations when the game was on the line? ie game tied or close, and not when his team wasn't already up by 3 or 4 runs?
  14. Abreu for the season: .286/.405/.474/.879 w/ Runners On: .305/.426/.505/.931 w/ RISP: .303/.444/.500/.944 w/ Bases Loaded: .294/.333/.824/1.157 Close and Late: .298/.422/.571/.993 Abreu for his career: .303/.411/.512/.923 w/ Runners On: .327/.443/.540/.983 w/ RISP: .321/.454/.549/1.003 w/ Bases Loaded: .330/.403/.585/.988 Close and Late not available for his career Nice work, CPatt.
  15. Are there are young managerial candidates out there that Billy Beane would be comfortable in hiring? It seems like nearly every major league hire is a retread coach from the "old school". I'm curious to see if Beane can find a manager that is open to the statistical analysis that is so important to the A's organization. This will be a very interesting hiring season.
  16. Bruce, I have a question you might not want to answer and I understand if you don't. How do you go about getting information from things like organizational meetings? Do you pick up the phone and call people? It would seem easier to get information during the regular season when you're at the ballpark everyday than it would be in the offseason when you're the team. You don't need to give names or anything but how do you get your information from the organization? Thanks.
  17. We opened at home in 2001 vs Montreal (4/2/01) IIRC, the second game of the series got snowed out.
  18. Game 1. I'm picking the Angels in 4 with Colon shutting down the Yankees with 4 hits scattered over 8 innings giving up 1 run.
