  1. Haven't seen this posted anyway but rotoworld is reporting that the Marlins and Rangers are in talks for a Beckett-Blalock dea.
  2. No, it shows he was effective last year. The history of baseball, especially the past 10-15 years, is littered with marginal relievers who have had 1 or 2 good years, surrounded by several seasons of garbage. We're talking about a guy who has been less effective out of the pen than Kyle Farnsworth, who was run out of town after supposedly being too inconsistent for somebody making $1.5m. Would anybody have been willing to go 3/11 on Farnsworth? I really liked the guy and wouldn't have considered it. But is Eyre gutless?
  3. Hendry is the master of speaking while saying nothing. I know its his job to play it close to the vest but its really impressive how he can give interviews without saying anything.
  4. I'm wasn't crazy about the deal yesterday but now seeing that Eyre has a no trade clause, I'm strongly against this signing. These kind of contracts are handed out to relievers that are "lights out". While Eyre is a solid reliever, and hopefully will be a good addition to the team, I don't like how the contract is structured.
  5. Wow. Three years. No wonder why Eyre is signing right away, there's no way he's gonna get that sweet of an offer from any other teams.
  6. agreed and I'll add 150 game season as well.
  7. He was seriously our best reliever for a long time in 2004. I don't know what happened to him, but I hope he figures it out in Texas. Wonder who the player will be. Alan Benes? It will likely be someone who won't be put on the 40-man roster. A b-level prospect from A-ball or something. I doubt it would be anyone with major league experience like Benes. I don't think Hendry is attempting to improve his bullpen with this move. I think he is clearing roster space. Could be wrong though, thats for sure. Lame joke on my part, I was just referring to the shuttling of Alan Benes back and forth between in the Cubs and Rangers in '03. Its clearly a move to clear 40 man spot.
  8. He was seriously our best reliever for a long time in 2004. I don't know what happened to him, but I hope he figures it out in Texas. Wonder who the player will be. Alan Benes?
  9. Ramirez took a big step back defensively in 2005. He was much better in 2004.
  10. Bruce was just on the Score with Murph. So much for that vacation.
  11. If Furcal signs elsewhere, Cedeno plays SS. Then trade Walker and find a new 2B. Personally, I'd rather keep Walker in that situation and have Cedeno being backed up by Perez. Then invest in RF.
  12. If the Cubs land both Furcal and Pierre, I can already picture the every inning when Furcal leads off. Furcal reaches base and Pierre bunts him to second.
  13. Olin Kreutz is a crazy bastard. He got into a tussle with some of the '85 Bears a few years ago and some reunion party. He just doesn't care.
  14. Can someone rationally explain to me why Darren Dreifort was signed for so much money? I have never understood why he received the kind of money he did, his numbers weren't great before the deal and they sure weren't good afterwards either. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. Dusty can't stand him and depending what happens with Furcal/Cedeno/Walker, Hairston is very redundant as an infielder. I wouldn't be entirely shocked if Hairston is the everyday CF next year.
  16. I was so excited when the Cubs traded for Nomar in July '04 and almost as excited when they Cubs re-signed him last winter. What a disappointing ending to a very disappoint stint with the Cubs. Nomar, we hardly knew ye.
  17. Any word on Benson's injury?
  18. This game scares me and it really shouldn't. The offense needs to be put at least 24 points for me to be satisfied.
  19. I think it's more due to bunting and being able to move the runners over. Don't forget hustle. You gotta have hustle. And good chemistry, imo. guys who create "havoc" on the basepaths?
  20. This is what is so baffling to me. If Hendry is not even going to consider trade offers involving Hill, why is he reluctant to give Hill a chance to scratch the starting rotation in '06. 1. Zambrano 2. Prior 3. Wood 4. Maddux 5. Williams/Rusch? If Hendry is so in love with Hill, why sign a redudant player like Glendon Rusch? Hill's value is close to its highest point now, start him or trade him. Don't have him rot away in the bullpen as the 12th pitcher, don't have him pitching him in Iowa, or worst all of all, dont' yank him around by bouncing him back and forth with all three.[/b]
  21. I bet he took a hometown discount too.
  22. Here's a quote from everyone's favorite anti-Joe Morgan blog. I can't believe we're having another argument about the value of wins.
