  1. Agreed. I think he'd be a nice addition to the bench. He gets on base at a decent rate but his power numbers are putrid for an OF.
  2. What does this mean for his Charity Bowling Event?
  3. Wanted to bump this thread up because of a comment made at the Winter Meetings from Dusty Baker. Nobody should forget the ridiculous joke that was Kerry Wood unnecessarily pitching out of the bullpen when the Cubs were out of the wild card race in August of 2005.
  4. Sean Casey for Dave Williams http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2250330
  5. The Favre, the? I've watched that hit at least 50 times already. Isn't that German?
  6. I thought I read somewhere Wickman was planning on leaving the Indians because they weren't gonna offer him the three year deal he desired.
  7. I second this idea. Can a Mod put this in place? All, Bruce is free to post where he desires in this forum. Isn't it a bit presumptious to believe that he would embrace the idea of having his own thread in which to post. He does get paid to do such in his column...I just don't like everyone hounding him everytime that he shows his face...errr name. Again, JMHO. I have no idea if Bruce would want to have his own sticky or not. It seems there are threads like this one that pop up when ever someone see his username in the people who are currently viewing this forum.
  8. Bruce should have his own stickied thread at the top of the transaction page so he can post anything he wants in there.
  9. That reason is Jerry Reinsdorf.
  10. No. Blalock=Overrated. .749 OPS in 2005. .611 on the road. Let me repeat that. His OPS was .611 on the road in 2005. Ramirez is head and shoulders better than Blalock. While Blalock might return to his decent number of 2003-2004, I'm not willing to gamble that for the prospects it'll cost to get him.
  11. Cub players involved: US: Derrek Lee Michael Barrett Venezuela: Carlos Zambrano Henry Blanco Dominican Republic: Neifi Perez Panama: Jose Macias. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051205&content_id=1276086&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  12. We all talk about the trading and signings that happen this week but what is the purpose of these meetings? What is being discussed in the actuall meetings themselves. I can't imagine everybody heads to Dallas with the sole purpose of making trades.
  13. nice win, but Orton is become a very horrible QB.
  14. good move on Furcals' part, he's getting huge money now and will get another big payday in 3 years.
  15. How is a 320 OBP, sub 800 OPS, and miserable defense something to long for? Put a fork in him, he's done. sub 800 OPS? sounds like furcal. Exactly. If the Furcal to the Dodgers story is true, there's no way Furcal is worth 13 million or even 10 million/year. I'd take Nomar at 5 million with some incentives based upon PA, and be content with the same production. Furcal OPS in 2004: 758 Furcal OPS in 2005: 777 Garciaparra can do that, for a fraction of the cost. Cedeno can do that for a minumal amount compared to both Furcal and Garciaparra.
  16. FWIW, the LA Times is owned by the Tribune Co. TY, I didn't know that. Still only one source reporting this. The Trib owns all sort of stuff...the LA Times, the Baltimore Sun, obviously WGN-TV, WGN-Radio, the Food Network, the WB.
  17. FWIW, the LA Times is owned by the Tribune Co.
  18. Possible, but can't the same allegation be made against every slugger of the late '90's-early '00's?
  19. Cedeno can probably put up nearly those numbers. For less. And to gauge how good he can be in the future. Very valid, I guess my point is let's not get so enamored by acquring someone outside of the organization when very viable, cheap or somewhat cheap options are available. Cedeno/Walker is good, Nomar/Walker is very good. Perez on the bench is set in stone, so its redudant to have Nomar, Cedeno, and Perez. Then again, its the Cubs so sign them all and let Dusty sort them out.
  20. There's a lot of money that was just thrown at Furcal that needs to be spent. RF still needs an OBP/SLG to step in to fill that need.
  21. I fully recognize Garciparra's inability to stay healthy in 2004 and 2005 but let's not forget the respectable line he put up when heathly this past season. .283/.320/.452/.772 He definitely wasn't setting the world on fire but I still think he can up together at least one more very strong season. He's still 32 years old. Nomar won't have a breakout season by any means but he's more than capable of hitting for a strong average and deliver some strong SLG than this lineup needs.
  22. I've been with you since day one on this. To paraphrase Bill Clinton: It's the outfield, stupid! I like the analogy. I. Did. Not. Trade. A. Cheap. Good. 2nd Baseman.
  23. If Garciaparra has any self-respect, he won't deal with the Cubs after the way Hendry's treated him this off season. Good luck Nomar, best of luck.
