  1. They have been amazingly consistent all year. Have they even had a 10 game stretch were they were 3-7? I feel, without looking, that they have not. Edit: I looked it up. There was never a 10 game span where the Cubs were not at least 4-6. I think that is pretty incredible. They stayed away from a stretch of terrible play all year.
  2. They were. And that was an amazing year. But often the best team all season doesn’t win the WS. Sure, it would be nice not to have to play a WC round. But they are in, so anything can happen.
  3. Come on now. Jed is an idiot. He can’t make good moves!!! I am pretty sure that is the belief of a lot of people here. To be honest, he had a very good year with regards to trades and signings.
  4. Never can understand the Happ angst. It happens every year. You honestly would think people haven’t even seen him play. I don’t get it.👍 He is a solid, but a little bit of a streaky player.
  5. Is it me, or does anyone else think Shaw tends to stumble a little more often than usual?
  6. I saw a guy get thrown out at second when he tried stealing and the batter walked. I think it was Ronny Cedeno or Jose Hernandez. He ran on what ended up ball 4. Catcher threw down and the runner was out because he over slid the bag and was tagged out AFTER he got to second on the walk.
  7. Since the first game of the Brewers series the Cubs have gone 17-10 and gained 4 games. They have been playing well, but 9 back is rough to overcome. The Cubs has no control over what the Brewers did when they were not playing them. And, in fact, over this crazy amount of brewers playing incredible ball, then Cubs beat them 4 of 7. Cubs will probably win 93 or so games this year. That is a great year.
  8. I think he will be on the roster for the WC round. Maybe just a DH, which is fine. But if he is a DH, I do think they may then keep Mo. He would be insurance if Tucker did tweet his calf again. Which is why Tucker has to DH. I would much rather see Mo replace him than Castro.
  9. I don’t love the Hamilton idea either. But they did sign him. So why? If not to pinch run in the playoffs, why? Maybe he doesn’t go in and play center if they PH for PCA. But I think they will put him on the roster. That is why I think they will go with 5 bench guys. Now, maybe between the time they signed Hamilton and now, Ballesteros has shown enough and Tucker’s injury concerns will change their mind. Maybe Moises takes the 5th spot as insurance for Tucker.
  10. I think they will have 12 pitchers and Hamilton makes the roster for pinch running and maybe playing centerfield if late in a game PCA gets pinch hit for against a rough lefty. As for the last spot between Santana and Ballesteros, I would love to see Ballesteros, but I think it will be Santana. In the event of weird circumstances that puts them in a position to pinch hit Turner for Busch, (I know people hate this scenario, but it happens) they would still have Santana if he is then needed to pinch hit for Turner later. Or they have him to play defense late in a game, instead of Turner.
  11. Well if they won game 1 they can go Horton for game 2 and hope they can start a lefty in a Phillies series. My hope is the Phillies are not the next opponent, provided we get past the Padres.
  12. Personally, I can see 90. If his arm is strong there is no reason to stay at that 75, IMO.
  13. I just used Taillon as an example. Point is they do not need 13 pitchers. They do not need a 10 man pen. If they like Taillon out of the pen over Soroka, Rea, Assad, or Civelli I have no issues with that. But I do think the bench will be 5 deep. Castro and either Amaya or Mcquire are definite. Then they choose betweeen Turner(who is pretty much definite, to me), Santana, Ballesteros and Hamilton. 🤷 Am I missing someone?
  14. Huge difference in this one. My guess is Gibson throw 99 innings in that 11 game span. Fun to compare Horton to Arrieta and Gibson accomplishments, but he isn’t anywhere near those levels of domination. Don’t get me wrong, love the guy and he has been amazing. Very excited for his future. But what we are seeing now is not at Arrieta level and certainly not at Gibson. On the flip side, Gibson did that when the mound was higher and scores were a lot lower.
  15. Speaking of the playoff roster, does there have to be 13 pitchers? In a 3 game series they don’t need the 4th starter. If Jamo isn’t going to start, would it even make sense for him to be on that roster? Why wouldn’t they only have 12 pitchers? Maybe even 11 when you consider a regular season roster has 13 pitchers, with 11 pitchers they would have 3 starters and 8 pen arms(same pen arms as the regular season)
  16. I agree with you on hoping SD stays as our WC opponent. I said that too. To me best path is SD then Brewers. Take our chance in the NLCS against either Phillies or Dodgers. Phillies are better than the Brewers and a harder match up. Really hope the Brewers hold on. (Or completely tank and go 2-10 while Cubs go 7-5). But that is doubtful.
  17. You make a good case. But I would still rather see Busch in the line up against Peralta, Woodruff and whoever else they decide to throw, than Turner against Sanchez, Suarez and Luzardo. I like Happ from the left side better as well and also like PCA against righty pitching. I just think, as a whole, the Phillies are a rougher match up for the Cubs. I would rather someone else beat them.
  18. Dodgers would be ok, but I like the Padres match up better. Padres don’t hit lefties particularly well, don’t hit homers and will start all right handed pitching. Dodgers do have Snell(if heathy)!plus some good rotation pitchers (if healthy). Cubs can beat them, but I like the chances against the Padres more. Ideal would be SD, Milw, then LA.
  19. I disagree. I would rather face the Phillies when maybe their rotation isn’t stacked EXACTLY how they want it. And, also, maybe they get beat before us. I get your broader point, but in the case of the Phillies who can start with 3 lefties right away, I don’t agree. I honestly don’t think the Cubs would beat the Phillies, so I would rather push them to the NLCS and maybe someone else beats them. 🤷
  20. I agree with you. Also, one step more, I want the Dodgers to hold off the Padres. Cubs best path, IMO, is SD then Brewers. Take our chances with Phillies or Dodgers in the NLCS.
  21. Is TMac not into dudes a confirmed report? TBH, even if she was into dudes I am pretty sure Boog wouldn’t be her in deal match. I think they are just friends and see him and her as more of a big brother, little sister sort of relationship. And I enjoy them with JD, best.
  22. He wasn’t that wild. Ump missed 4 pitches, at least, that he called balls. If those are called correctly he wouldn’t have been considered wild. Not saying his outing was good. It wasn’t. But it could have been a lot different if the umpire actually called pitches in the zone, strikes. He doesn’t need to earn strike calls on actual strikes.
  23. Coming down to the last few games and I think what other teams do has a greater importance to the Cubs chances in the playoffs then what the Cubs do from here on out. All they need to do it play .500 ball and they are pretty much the #4 team. Padres would need to go 10-2 to tie them. But if they went 10-2 they might beat out the Dodgers. Cubs own that tie breaker against the Dodgers. To me the easiest path to the NLCS is if things stay as is. Brewers hold on to their 2 game lead (in the loss column) over the Phillies, brewers with the tie breaker. And Padres finish as the second wild card team. I feel SD then the Brewers is an easier path then either getting the Dodgers in round one or the Phillies in round two, or even both of those teams just to get to the NLCS. I know playoffs can go anyway. But I would much rather have to face either the Phillies or the Dodgers in the NLCS, and not before then. NOTE: Dodgers win tiebreaker with the Padres.
  24. And I would bet if you watched every Reds game you wouldn’t like Francona. This is not about you. I think that is every fan. When you see someone all the time you always second guess(as a fan). What makes Francona so much better than everyone else. They are 500 and were pretty much projected to be 500. Cubs are heading towards 91 or 92 wins and were projected to mid 80’s. So why is Franconia so great? BTW, I agree most are pretty interchangeable. But I think CC is in the upper tier of managers, with Francona.
