  1. I think Mo is the DH and the bench ends up Shaw, Carlson, Conforto and Amaya/Kelly. I am fine with that. If Busch goes down for any time they bring Long up. Or maybe Austin comes back. With this team they could actually put 6 lefties in a line up if they face a heavy split guy. Mo can catch, Conforto can DH and Carlson can play right. I, too, would like to see Mo catch 20+ games this year.
  2. Yep, they were celebrating because they thought they were in the next round already.
  3. Big difference between being smart and being baseball smart. I get what you are saying about Shaw, personally. But he did learn 3rd base very quickly. He does appear to have a high baseball IQ. Yes, day to day life he is easily fooled and not very smart. But that isn’t the same as baseball.
  4. But if Mexico and Italy go extra innings and Mexico wins while scoring 5, Italy goes as long as the winning run comes after one out in extras. Crazy way to determine who wins a tie breaker, but they go by runs allowed versus outs gotten, between 3 tied teams. USA has given up 11 runs and gotten 54 outs. So far Italy has given up 6 runs with 27 outs. Mexico is the home team. So if they are winning after the top of the 9th and have 5 runs, Italy will have given up 11 runs in 51 outs. So USA advances. But if the 5th run scores after even one out in extras, Italy will have given up 11 runs while getting more than 54 outs, so they advance. No idea what happens if they Mexico walks it off in 10 with no outs.
  5. Ramirez with a grand slam. He has had a great spring. Hoerner follows with another long ball.
  6. So it appears the Bears let Wright and Byrd go more on their belief the performance of those two would regress more than the money they wanted. Bears could have easily taken them back instead of pivoting to other players. So, I guess, that means the Bears feel they improved their defense by getting different guys. 🤷 Sure hope they are right.
  7. I think they will for sure get a first round pick. Maybe a 1st this year and a 3 next. My guess is pretty much everyone knows the Ravens were looking for a way out with Hendrickson still there and the physical isn’t that bad. Had the Bears been given the picks they should have been given for losing Cunningham this would have been an easy choice for me. Go get Crosby. Now I am not too sure.
  8. That is sad. But they turned Cassie into Cabrera. So that isn’t so bad.
  9. Why is Theilbar starting. I saw Harvey listed as starting? Is all ok with Harvey?
  10. I would guess Bregman would be 2 or 3 if he was here. Maybe Suzuki too. Don’t see these two guys behind the 3 at the top now.
  11. I agree that 2 wrong challenges isn’t enough. Maybe they should have 4. But not unlimited. I would rather see all pitches called electronically over unlimited challenges.
  12. I doubt that happens. Hitters are going to challenge strike calls. I am sure of that.
  13. I’m not worried about the homers. TBH those were 3 balls that don’t even get out of Wrigley in April. Typically in April the wind is blowing in and it is cold. Those fly balls don’t carry at Wrigley. They are fly outs and everyone is happy about how Imanaga pitched. But, I was at the game. I saw the gun show 93 in the first inning, 92 in the second and 91 in the third. Maybe that is ok. But his velo was dropping each inning. I would be more concerned about that then the 3 homers he gave up. What does he need to show in velo to be effective? Is 91 enough?
  14. Having Brown, assuming he does develop another pitch, is also a huge plus. Even if all those guys are healthy and performing well, Brown could still be a rotation piece. I think the Cubs are going to work with him until he proves he can’t do it before making him a pen arm. And if he proves he can do it, I would still expect the Cubs to go after a starter next year in free agency.
  15. He does. But if they can add an extra pitch for Brown he also has the potential to be a very solid starting pitcher. That is more valuable. So maybe he does start in Iowa. They have a lot of rotation spots to fill after this season.
  16. Does he have a chance of making the team. Really, how many spots are available? Have to tbink Palencia, Hunter, Rea, Theilbar, Milner, Maton all make the team. I also think Webb makes the team. So is there only 1 spot? At most, 2? Snider, Holloway, Roberts, Brown, Assad, Wicks, Neely, and a few I am sure I am missing, are all fighting for 1 or 2 spots.
  17. No. I don’t think he is even expected to make the team with a good spring. He will be in Iowa this year. If he does well maybe he comes up. But I don’t think they plan on him making the team this spring.
  18. I believe he does.
  19. Not that it makes that much difference, but isn’t Amaya a reverse splits guy?
  20. I don’t see the Cubs resting Busch on a day that a right handed pitcher is pitching. So don’t see how Mo fills in there. I do see Amaya is playing g a little 1st. That works.
  21. But what would be the point of resting Busch so that Mo can play 1st? Both are left handed hitters and Busch is clearly a better fielder. I get the idea of Mo at 1st if Busch gets injured, that strictly as a guy to give Busch a day off, I don’t see Mo.
  22. Little sucks. He has always sucked and honestly I have no idea why people like him.
  23. I agree that having options is good. However if all your options are bad options then It isn’t good. Kind of like the playoffs last year. CC could have gone with Rea, Assad, Shota, Brown, etc… against the Brewers. He has options but all of them sucked. I do think the guys they have, all have some upside. If any of Conforto, Carlson or McCormick can find their best self next year that would be awesome. If Alcantara can prove he can hit that would also be awesome. But there is also a real possibility all of them aren’t very good, or in Kevin’s situation, maybe just not ready yet. I just hope at least one works out. Would have really liked Goldy. Then, if not him, either Hoskins or France. Maybe Mountcastle gets DFA. He wouldn’t be bad.
  24. Well the bench is Shaw and back up catcher. That is pretty much established. It is the last two spots. And no really obvious answers. If Shaw is OF #4 who is utility. Bottom line is who are the back ups. Who backs up 1st? Who is the righty off the bench? But a huge deal. I get that. But not a good problem to have.
  25. Is it a good problem? I don’t believe that is true. They have no clear cut bench guy from this group. All have serious warts. All could actually suck. I don’t consider this a good problem to have.
