  1. Utility bat this year. Starting at 2nd base next year. I don’t see the Cubs trading Shaw. But if they do, it better be for a starting pitcher they can control for AT LEAST 4 years. And at least a MOR type guy. Maybe a similar trade like Rizzo for Cashner. Except this time the pitcher works out too. I doubt that is a possibility, which is why I expect Shaw to be here.
  2. I think Bellinger gets a deal worked out with the Yankees. Even if the reports are accurate that they reached their limit with 6 years and $31M a year, I don’t see Bellinger getting more than that elsewhere. Which means he will be back to the Yankees.
  3. I can easily see Mo as a 115 wRC+ kind of bat. And while I agree with you on the catchers regression, I think PCA can hold his offense similar to his end numbers. And hopefully more consistent. Maybe a few less homers but a few more steals and less K’s. And I think we haven’t seen the best of Busch yet. Which is exciting. I think the offense will be good overall.
  4. I know it isn’t likely. I think the team is basically set. I also think the Cubs like Tailon more than for just being a MOR starter. They seem to really value culture guys. And from all I have ever heard about Tailon he is that sort of guy. I think a big part of going after Bregman as a top target is his leadership. Most likely, unless they do something stupid like trade Nico, this is the team. If Alcantara can be sent down maybe they add a veteran outfielder. But that is about it until the TDL.
  5. Apparently MK didn’t read my comments 15 times. Because he asked directly if I thought Gallen would pitch better than Tailon this year. So I answered him.
  6. I agree. But if you replace Tucker and Shaw for Mo and Bregman I’m not so sure that’s a regression. I think Mo will put up better offensive numbers than Shaw did in ‘25. And Bregman will come close to Tucker’s numbers. On paper I think this is a better team than the ‘25 team. They added Cabrera, have Shaw off the bench and rebuilt their pen. Plus they have Steele coming back and a full year of Horton, and hopefully, Amaya
  7. I agree with you. Like I said, maybe if they wanted to lessen the exodus of FA next year they can sign Gallen and trade Tailon this off season. That would probably add $5M to the budget. But if they would go over at the TDL, this shouldn’t matter. Other than that I only expect them to go over if they make TDL moves.
  8. Exactly. Yankees could want him but that doesn’t mean the Cubs want to trade him.
  9. WOW. You are spending way too much time arguing with a clueless individual or just someone who wants a reason to howl at the moon. He lost me when he questioned you on his home and road performance as if it couldn’t be verified. To add to your comments, Bregman’s career stats are better on the road. Just in case people want to suggest he took advantage of a short left field in Houston and Boston. I admire your patience. But this guy isn’t going to change.
  10. So is this a moral or ethical issue with you or do you believe he was only good because he cheated and Shaw can be just as good. Because, I have to tell you if your issue is with Bregman morally, and that is what you are basing wanted Shaw over Bregman, I couldn’t disagree more. I don’t understand how you can suggest Bregman is this bad guy because he cheated, and then not comment on Shaw’s views. I think Shaw’s beliefs are way more offensive than Bregman cheating. And, if you think Shaw is better than Bregman, your wrong there too. We can only hope turns into what Bregman is. And if he does he will be an awesome second baseman on the ‘27 team. He will also be someone I will never like as a human.
  11. Which, IMO, is why I don’t think they were interested in Tucker. Not a bad guy, but not a leader and a bit of a loner.
  12. Yep. I don’t see a need unless they want someone other than Alcantara, assuming he does have one more option year left. Or maybe they add Goldy? Let Austin go. 🤷 I think the comment that the Cubs don’t have an issue going over is so that the Hoerner trade talk would die down. I don’t take it to mean they will add someone else. However, they could trade Taillon for a minor leaguer and sign Gallen. That would put them over. And I can see something like that. It helps the ‘27 team too. One less FA to have to replace in ‘27.
  13. I thought I read Alcantara was out of options. If he has one then adding someone like Tauchman wouldn’t be a bad idea. Let Kevin get AB in Iowa.
  14. What does this mean? Alcantara doesn’t have options left. So if they get someone to take his spot he can’t be se t down. Mo should be fine as a DH. Who do you think they will get and who will he replace. I think the comment of them going over this year is just to reassure the fan base that Nico doesn’t have to be traded. I guess they could bring in a bat to replace Austin, but I don’t think they will. And that doesn’t solve the Suzuki, Mo, Alcantara merry go round. As I said, I don’t even know what that means.
  15. I may be in the minority in this, but I don’t think the Cubs would have given Tucker the contract they gave Bregman. I think they like Bregman better, period. Regardless of the years or money. I also think the original plan with Tucker was bring him over, have him love the city and try signing him to a large contract. I think the Cubs decided he wasn’t t the type of player they want. I don’t agree with the Cubs on this one. I think Tucker is the better player. But, IMO, there was something the Cubs FO didn’t like about him.
  16. To me, all it does is push Shaw to utility for a year. But if they do trade him it better be for someone with close to the same amount of control left and similar upside. Preferably a pitcher. Personally, I wouldn’t trade him. He would be my second baseman in ‘27. But there is a world where the Cubs can resign Hoerner and the pitcher they get for Shaw could be in the rotation next year. One example would be Shaw to the Angels for Soriano. That might not work. And I am not suggesting that exact move. It is just an example. A young bat for a young pitcher. But then they need to keep Hoerner beyond this season. And I am fine with that.
  17. They didn’t get rid of Shaw. He is still on the team and will probably get 300-400 AB next year. They just added an all star third baseman. I expect Shaw will be the 2nd baseman in ‘27. As far as your ridiculous rant on cheating goes, I don’t care. If I only wanted players who qualify for your moral high ground you are taking, I probably would field a team. All players do whatever they think will give them an advantage. I am sure there are players cheating right now. I can dislike a person as a human being but cheer for him as a ballplayer. I do find it interesting that your distain for Bregman yet say nothing about Shaw and his white supremist beliefs. Guess you are ok with that. Given the choice of the two I would take Bregman over Shaw all day long on the moral high ground debate. I have given up on worrying about players beliefs,, views or morals when evaluating them as players. I put them all in the same bucket with the belief none of them are people who should be role models. They just play baseball and if they are in my team I will cheer for them. One caveat to this view is criminal behavior such as domestic violence, etc….
  18. I agree. We should all be happy the Cubs finally targeted a guy and got him. For once, let other fan bases suggest how dumb the Cubs were and praise their FO for not signing such a crazy contract. Many of us have done that for years. I think this is a great move as far as Bregman, the ballplayer. But even better sign that the Cubs can actually swim in the deep waters of free agency.
  19. I don’t think they do that now. He is 1 or 5 rotation pieces. And they don’t need that much money for the deadline. But Rea makes sense. He is a spot starter/multi inning guy. Assad can take that role. They already have Webb, Harvey, Maton, Palencia, Milner, Theilbar and then guys like Assad, Brown, Wicks, Little, Hodge and probably a few I am forgetting. They can spare Rea.
  20. I think the only one who might not be here in April is Alcantara, assuming no trades. No chance Shaw isn’t here and I really think Ballesteros is the DH. Maybe they add a lefty outfielder, (Tauchman) but I doubt it.
  21. This is a bit of an overreaction. They would save $6M to be able to spend at the TDL if they traded their swing starter/multi inning relief pitcher. Basically JAG. I agree they don’t need to do this. But insane if they did? Nope.
  22. In his last 4 seasons where he accumulated over 2500 PA his WAR is 17. How is that not very good? All those years are post “cheat” years.
  23. Why do we get trolls every time the Cubs do something significant? We end up with new posters who are just here to howl at the moon. This is another example.
