    If anyone rated him as better than ok as POBO I agree they are overrating him. He isn’t a top 5 POBO in the game. Maybe not even top 10. But he isn’t bottom half either. I think more are worse than better. And I don’t feel many overrate him.

    I guess it is all perception. I mean sure they need to put up crooked number. Maybe score 3 in an inning. I am not a believer in momentum, I guess. They just need to put runs in the board. Suggesting a momentum swing just sounds strange to me. Maybe it is just me. I agree this is a big game. Need to win so they can win the series. We both agree on that. So let’s go with that.

    A bit of a panic statement, don’t you think? They played one inning and you are suggesting some sort of momentum swing or being swept? Seems a bit doom boner to me. Yes, we need 6+ from Imanaga. And we need to score runs. But pretty early to start talking about being swept.

    To be fair, Leahy isn’t a bum. He isn’t a star, but he is a decent pitcher. And been pitching well lately.

    Your right, large market teams still have an as advantage over small markets. But not as big an advantage as they had when Hendry was in charge. And when an owner doesn’t use that advantage to his fullest, as TR doesn’t do, the advantage is even lessened. When Hendry was the man in charge ownership gave him free rein to spend. And yet, the guy you liked won at 55% with every advantage greater than it is now while Jed has a 54% winning percentage. Seems strange to defend one and rip the other. As I have said repeatedly, Jed isn’t great as the POBO. But he isn’t bad either. Easy to use Bregman as an overpay right now, but the jury is still out on him. What large FA contract did Jed put on the books that is an overpay? What large FA pitching contract did the Cubs miss on? What prospects have been held too long and who did they miss on by not trading those prospects? And finally, do we know TR would have signed off on any of the players you may suggest? I am sure you can find some players you wished the Cubs signed, especially using hindsight. But there are also many that fans wanted signed that right now we are very happy we don’t have.

    I think l they are having fireworks after the game. And it should end around 9 to 9:30 anyway. Most fireworks don’t start until then.

    I didn’t have an issue with Hendry when he was in charge. But you are comparing him to Jed when he had different ownership and allowed him to spend freely. In fact when he signed Soriano it came from ownership that they wanted him to spend more. Rules where also way different them. Large market teams had a far greater advantage over the small markets. Unlimited spending on IFA. No real penalties for spending freely. Just different and difficult to compare the two because of different owners and different rules.

    I was fully on board with you until the last sentence😬. But seriously, I agree about Jed. As I said, he isn’t great, but he isn’t terrible either. I think if he is moved it is more likely we get someone worse than someone better.

    Not going to argue he is great at his job, but you leave a lot out with going to “not good”. Since the start of the 2023 season the Cubs have won 307 games. They are 11th in baseball in wins. 1 games out of a tie for 6th. Aside from the Rays, Brewers and Orioles (whose record is really due to one great year) all the teams ahead of them have spent more money. Aside from the Brewers the next best team in the division is 25 wins behind them. While the Cubs can spend more and act like a big market his hands are tied every year to be under the LT(except, finally, this year). While you are correct that he does spend more, the rest of the division gets advantages the Cubs don’t get. Spending more only tries to balance the teams out. But when you don’t take full advantage if your advantage due to ownership, you are actually playing at a disadvantage. If you want to say the Brewers are a much better FO, I agree. Same with the Rays. But if the bar is the Brewers than every FO with the exception of the Rays and Dodgers is bad. Jed is not the best POBO in the game. Far from it. But he is far from bad and far from the worst. Cubs can do much worse.

    They also need fans to be interested in the game. 1-0, 2-1 games are not going to keep people interested in the game. And there is no guarantee raising the mound would result in fewer injuries. Just fewer runs, and, probably, fewer fans.

    It sucks. Believe me, I was there and left very early. But it is one game. Would it have been better if they lost 5-4 blowing a 9th inning lead. One horrendous game. Turn the page.

    Do you want the pitchers to further dominate the game? A raised mound will lead to 1-0, 2-1 games. I don’t want to go back to 1968 again, except now with guys who throw over 100 mph. How does a raised mound help the game?

    I don’t see that stopping guys from throwing as hard as they can and not worry about injury. Do you think it’s will start throwing 120 pitches a game. Mis throws 104 mph and throws over 100 pitches. How is limiting pitchers going to help him? Any pitcher is going to do whatever is necessary to get a guy out. Worry about the next guy after you handle the guy up. I don’t think they will gear down.

    I don’t think it is a good idea to make hitting harder. As it is, guys strike out 25% of the time.

    How are 40,000 fans notified? Not everyone is talking baseball or expecting a game to change a start time. Logistically it just doesn’t work. Which is why it is extremely rare they change game times. Add to the fact that is is supposed to clear around 4. There are windows where they can plan. To further add, I am sure the Cubs want to make it as uncomfortable as possible for the Cardinals. If they could have played at 1:20 I am sure that would have been something the Cubs wanted to do. Playing a night game isn’t to the Cubs advantage.

    This is where I am at with losing any of the 3 mentioned. I don’t want them traded for a rental. Otherwise any could go. And if the starting pitcher coming back has enough time of control left and is good enough, I am fine with 2 of them going. Save someone like Kepley or lower for a rental, if they go rental.

    But I doubt they would throw easier or softer. I think they go full throttle until their arms go down.

    This is also probably true. I will be there today. Went Tuesday and am also going Sunday. Only in Chicago area for 5 weeks but I will get to 8 for sure, and maybe 9 games in that span. But they won’t get money in beer sales for me. Seldom buy anything at the game. Do eating and drinking either before or after the game.

    How does limiting teams to 11 pitchers help pitchers health. I am not sure I understand that logic.

    I agree. I want someone with at least 2 years beyond this year. If you have to lose two top 100 prospects plus a high ceiling young guy, so be it. If Shaw has to be in it instead of one of the top 100 prospects, that is fine too. This team deserves a chance at winning this year. Their offense and defense is good enough to be a serious threat in the playoffs. Get a good pitcher with time left so that’s one less thing next year as well as helping now.

    I am surprised at how many times people suggest changing start times. Honestly, how often does that even happen? I don’t recall it but for rare exceptions of hurricanes. Yet every time weather appears to be a problem people suggest just changing a game time as if it is just some easy thing to do. There are 40,000+ people who have to change plans if a game time is changed. Not that easy and not done that often.

    Weather looks rough for this one. But I have to think the Cubs will do whatever they can to play this game. Cardinals had a night game in Atlanta last night. I am sure they got in very late. So Cubs will want to take advantage of that.
