  1. Should have challenged the first pitch. He struck out on 4 balls out of the zone.
  2. I would have guessed Mo being sent down.
  3. Apparently they can sit the bench.
  4. He has to play these guys, right? I mean they can easily put Alcantara in 3-5 days in a row just giving guys a day off. Not sure how much Ramirez plays, but they can do that with him as well, at least 3 days. I have to think Mo is being sent down for this move. I’m not convinced KA will do well, but they might as well see him play now. EDIT: Just saw the line up. PCA leading off. I actually like that. Neither Alcantara nor Ramirez are in the line up, but Mo is. Lopez dfa for Kevin.
  5. Damn, I thought they traded Shaw when I saw Ramirez was brought up. I don’t necessarily want Shaw traded, but if they did that would mean they added a solid starting pitcher, which they can definitely use.
  6. If my JAG you mean upside of MOR starter, sure he is JAG. Personally I would be happy if he became a solid #3 starter.
  7. No. It is panic talk to suggest the Cubs won’t be in it. Silly too, if you ask me.
  8. Shaw has had 104 PA in 50 games. So he is on pace for around 330-340 AB. He isn’t rotting on the bench.
  9. With Mo struggling I could see bringing up Alcantara and him even getting enough AB weekly for it to make sense. Not saying PCA doesn’t play against lefties, but he could be given a day Alcantara can also play a corner spot and let Seiya or Happ DH. If they can find 3 days a week to play KA it makes some sense to bring him up.
  10. Thats the point. Who is a superstar? Why is Freeman a superstar who you put in the 25 Dodgers but not suggest Busch was just as good THAT YEAR. How do you put a Betts in superstar status for 25, when the Cubs had 6 guys with better offensive years than Betts, in 25? Why isn’t Seiya a star bat when his wRC+ is top 12 baseball the last 3 years? Fact is a WS champ needs a top 5-10 guy in MVP voting. And if they win a WS they will have one. Doesn’t matter who you want to put in the team, he only comes up every 9 times. Difference between a great season by someone and a good season is probably 2 or 3 hits per 100 times up. And then that hit has to be in an rbi situation to make a huge difference. You are way overvaluing a “star” bat and not acknowledging thrbCubs have several who can qualify as one if they had a good year.
  11. You are picking and choosing who you decide is a superstar bat and the fact is Busch was better than Freeman last year. Seiya is a top 10-12 bat since he came into the league. Those guys would be used to support your claim a team needs a superstar bat to win, if they won and this discussion was held in 5 years. Hell, Bregman and Happ might be added to the argument, depending on how this season ends up. Offense is not the problem with this team. Pitching is.
  12. Cool. I admit, I read it because I thought that was saying Kepley was promoted. Kind of disappointed when I found out his homer was for SB……
  13. Is the SB team the Smokies too, or is the title of this thread wrong. Kepley homered for SB.
  14. I agree they could have traded Tailon and added someone. I don’t agree with Rea or Boyd. Who are they going to get that is better at their price. Boyd got hurt. That is his only problem. And if Rea was used as he should be, he is fine. But, sure, trade Tailon to dump salary and then spend that salary on someone else. But would that someone else be a sure thing to be better than Tailon going into the season. If you are talking about guys like Gallen or Giolito the answer would be, no. If you aimed higher for Cease, King or Suarez, sure, that would have been great. Going into 26 the Cubs has Cabrera, Horton, Boyd, Imanaga and Tailon. With Steele set to come back by June 15, Wiggins on the doorstep, Rea, Wicks, Assad and Brown as depth/pen. What hopeful rejects did they add to the pen to start 26? They had Rea, Brown, Maton, Theilbar, Webb, Milner, Palencia and Harvey. Harvey was the big gamble, because of health. But they also had guys like Assad, Wicks, Roberts, Little as guys who can fill in for one injury. Sure, now they have hopeful rejects….Rolison, Thornton, Blach, etc (too many to remember). But I don’t think they were unreasonable to not guard against 6 injuries to the staff and numerous injuries to guys in the minors. But back to your original point, and something I agree with you on, wish they dealt Tailon and added someone closer to a top end guy, in the rotation.
  15. We are not going to agree here. I mean it is easy to go back and suggest someone was a superstar and he was in a line up so that made that line up have a superstar bat. You are listing guys from a team that won a WS. So of course they had great years. But just taking the Dodgers of last year, as an example. You name Betts. He sucked last year. Freeman wasn’t any better than Busch. You lost Riley as a superstar. Is he? Again, Cubs have bats like him. As for other stars you menruon, some are pitchers. That has nothing to do with what you said originally and what we are discussing. Cubs have several ballplayers in the line up that can produce over a 125 OPS+. A couple that have been over 140. So if the Cubs won a WS this year someone would look back 5 years from now and make your same argument and list 2 guys from the Cubs team and suggest they were superstar hitters and that is why the Cubs won. Hell, had they won last year I am sure you could have said Busch, Tucker and Suzuki. The term “superstar” bat is just too vague and too easy to suggest someone is one after the fact.
  16. Personally I think you but way too much stock in getting a star bat. How many more hits in 600 AB does someone like Ramirez get over someone like Bregman, as an example. Let’s go with a 300 hitter over a 270 hitter. 180 hits versus 162? This isn’t basketball where one guy can make a huge difference because only 5 guys are on the court. This isn’t football where a star quarterback can make the entire team better. This is baseball, where one player comes up every 9 times. He can’t do anything about the other AB. Angels had prime Trout and Ohtani and didn’t win a thing. Didn’t even make the playoffs. Give me a line up 9 deep with quality. Cubs are 5th in offense over the next 2 years. They don’t need a superstar bat. They need a better rotation.
  17. Yep, seasons over. No chance to catch the brewers. They are clearly better and we might as well cancel the rest of the season. Can’t possibly make up 1/2 a game in the next 110 or so games.
  18. They sure do. They win 6 of 13 from the Cubs last season. If they doesn’t prove they own the Cubs I don’t know what does.
  19. I’m not sure about that. He looked great for 3 innings. Only 35 pitches and the one solo homer. They got 3 ground ball hits in a row, none of which was hit hard. Then they put a couple good swings on him. Sure, he had a terrible inning, but also pretty unlucky.
  20. Your probably should have read the title of the article. It says 3 Cubs to be FIRST TIME all stars. Shota has been an all star. But I disagree with you about Seiya. He is not performing at an all star level.
  21. I would hope it is Theilbar for Rolison. Or if Maton is hurt put him on the IL. Regardless of who has to go, Theilbar needs to be back.
  22. Right. Which is also a due to several injuries to the rotation and the pen. They have played without 2/5 of their rotation much of the year. They have had pen arms out all season. Of the original pen arms, when healthy, Maton is the only one that has consistently sucked. That was the miss at this point. And he was the safest pick. Rolison shouldn’t even be in the pen, but for injuries. The pen, if it was able to stay more healthy than it has, wasn’t a terrible pen coming into the season. But it can’t overcome 2 injuries to the rotation, forcing pen arms to start, and 5 injuries to the actual pen. Plus injuries to guys in the minors who would have been counted on to come up and fill the pen. No team has the depth to withstand the amount of injuries the Cubs staff has had without cracks starting to show.
  23. They are t firing Hoyer and it is a stupid idea to consider it.
