  1. So if you like OPS how can you say Happ is having a bad year. His OPS is 825. That is very good.
  2. I someone doesn’t know much about hockey comparing him to someone else in hockey isn’t going to help him. ls he someone to play on the top line when Bedard? Will he be a regular next season? What should be expected of him? 20 or 30 goals? 50-60 points? Is he a top 2 line guy?
  3. Here is something I don’t say often. I agree chibear😬
  4. So trade for Peralta at the TDL. There is the star. Cubs probably have the best 1-9 in baseball. Happ is a part of it. They need to upgrade pitching.
  5. Peanut, I didn’t think what you said was a trigger. I don’t necessary agree with you, but you didn’t cut Happ down. I just don’t see them upgrading offensively from him without severely weakening another part of the team. I found the comment that Happ hasn’t done anything to give the Cubs a reason to sign him as a trigger. He is a very polarizing player for some reason. And he aggravates me too, when playing bad. But facts are facts. He is a guy who post WAR over 3 every year and this year he is trending to be over 5. So suggesting he hasn’t given the Cubs a reason to sign him is blatantly false. If they choose to go cheap in left with a minor league bat they will be weaker at that position. And I just don’t see many left fielders who are better overall than Happ. So go cheaper there and spend on Peralta. I am fine with that. But know your production in left will be worse without Happ. Also, the reason people defend him so much is because so many posters undervalue him.
  6. OBP and slug are more important than BA. He is getting on at a very high level and slugging well. Sure I would like his strike outs to go down some. But if he keeps a 368 OBP and slugs over 450 that is a great season.
  7. Thanks. I agree with this entire post and couldn’t have said it better.
  8. That nice chibear. But this is a group forum. So when you say something someone disagrees with, whether is it in response to a different poster or not, another will respond. Since my response, you have continued to put numbers out to defend your belief Happ hasn’t done anything this year and has been bad. In a group forum people will agree and disagree with you even if your original point was just to one poster. Had you just said you would rather extend Seiya then Happ, maybe no one responds. Or maybe makes an argument of wanting Happ over Seiya. Personally, I wouldn’t have responded. That is a fair statement and a preference of yours. As I have said multiple times now, the only issue with your comment to PP was suggesting Happ isn’t very good. Which is now the point of the discussion. And a point you continue to defend using SSS.
  9. On base streak of over 30 games, I believe. Ended Sunday against deGrom.
  10. Yep. Any slump by Happ and the SS people come to life.
  11. I have never argued signing Happ or letting Happ walk. That has never been my discussion. I only took issue with using a small sample size to make a determination Happ isn’t good. Cubs won’t sign both him or Seiya. They might not sign either. They may put money elsewhere. But that doesn’t mean Happ isn’t good. That is all my conversation was about.
  12. He does this every year with Happ. Waits until he is in a slump then uses small sample size to argue his point that Happ isn’t good. Then Happ eventually turns it around and we don’t hear from him again until Happ struggles again. Happ is who he is. A very good ballplayer who puts up solid, overall, offensive numbers and great defense. Whether they sign him again or not has nothing to do with “his play giving them a reason to sign him or not”. It has to do with whatever the Cubs plan is and what Happ wants. If they don’t sign him they will probably spend money elsewhere. There is not a better outfielder in free agency. And I doubt they trade for a left fielder better than Happ. So maybe they ended up with Alcantara, Shaw or Long out there. Based on previous post regarding prospects, my guess is Alcantara would be the hope of some who love to just pencil in a guy from the minors and assume he will be better than Happ. And that will result in worse play in left fielder. Not easy to replace a guy who consistently puts up a WAR of 3+ or better. Again, maybe they do that. Maybe they do cheap with a system guy in the outfield. If they spend on someone like Peralta instead, for the rotation, I understand what they are doing. But not signing him isn’t because he isn’t showing them a reason to sign him. That is the only thing I disagree with from the original post.
  13. In your initial post you suggested Happ hasn’t done anything to give the Cubs a reason to sign him. Again, OPS+ of 145 with OPS of 828 while still being a great outfielder. If this was stats of a nameless person you would say he was having a good year. I am fine with not extending him. I might not either, unless he was cheaper and would take a 3 year deal. But to say he isn’t doing anything this year IS undervaluing him. If they don’t sign him they will be worse in left field next year, period.
  14. So 145 OPS+ and over 800 OPS is playing poorly. Got it. Also, he turns 32 in August. So most of next year he is 32. No, I wouldn’t give him 5 years. Maybe not sign him at all if they put money elsewhere. But you are shitting on him based on his last 55 AB.
  15. What are you talking about? His numbers are his numbers. No matter how he got them. And they are very good and he is a GG left fielder.
  16. I didn’t say that. If fact, I said if they didn’t extend him I would understand. My issue is your suggesting he hasn’t done much to give the Cubs a reason to sign him. He has been very good for many years. You are now making a different argument then what you originally said and what I took issue with. Once again, you continue to undervalue Happ.
  17. He was at 90. And with a depleted pen he has to get innings out of the rotation. Who did you want him to bring in?
  18. Happ has been a top 3 left fielder in baseball the past 4 years or better. Also always around OPS+ of around 120. Probably a top 30 outfielder overall. But other than that he has t done a thing. So you guys are right. While I am fine if they don’t sign him, let’s not act like he isn’t good or doesn’t deserve to be signed again if he would take a 2 or 3 year deal. Once again, Cubs fanbase undervaluing Happ.
  19. Don’t forget Cooper and Kenny Williams. I actually agree with you. But I don’t live in Chicago any longer so I don’t have to listen to Sox fans, except my son in law (but he knows better). Sox organization definitely used to operate as the team with a chip on their shoulder. I actually remember going out and you would see Sox fans watching the Cubs game hoping the Cubs would lose instead of watching their team hoping they would win. I asked one of them if they would rather get swept by the Cubs but then sweep the Twins (who were 2 games up in them in the standings) or sweep the Cubs but get swept by the Twins. He wanted to sweep the Cubs. To me, he was the “typical” Sox fan.
  20. Right. But would you rather the Cubs sweep the Brewers or the white sox, if they went 3-3 in those 6 games. I know the brewers are the correct answer, but it would suck to lose 3 to the Sox.
  21. I agree. But tbh, it is irrational. In the next 8 games if someone told me the Cubs would go 4-4, I know the rational POV would be to hope the Cubs split with the Braves and swept the Brewers. But that would mean they got swept by the white sox. While I realize that would be the best outcome of a 4-4 stretch, that is also tough to live with knowing the Sox swept them. But that is absolutely what any fan should choose if that was their options. How many would?
  22. Against, chibear. That is baseball. Guys slump. How bad could they have been doing. They won 10 in a row.
  23. Your initial comment wasn’t bad, actually. You were just saying they need to start hitting. But you did double down after today’s game to suggest after 3 games there might be a problem. Some guys struggled before then but that is pretty normal. Not all players hit all the time. Before this last 3 games they won 10 in a row. How bad could they have possibly been doing?
  24. Yes. It’s baseball. We do this every year. Teams hit then don’t. It happens. Yet every year some posters overreact.
