  1. He does. But if they can add an extra pitch for Brown he also has the potential to be a very solid starting pitcher. That is more valuable. So maybe he does start in Iowa. They have a lot of rotation spots to fill after this season.
  2. Does he have a chance of making the team. Really, how many spots are available? Have to tbink Palencia, Hunter, Rea, Theilbar, Milner, Maton all make the team. I also think Webb makes the team. So is there only 1 spot? At most, 2? Snider, Holloway, Roberts, Brown, Assad, Wicks, Neely, and a few I am sure I am missing, are all fighting for 1 or 2 spots.
  3. No. I don’t think he is even expected to make the team with a good spring. He will be in Iowa this year. If he does well maybe he comes up. But I don’t think they plan on him making the team this spring.
  4. I believe he does.
  5. Not that it makes that much difference, but isn’t Amaya a reverse splits guy?
  6. I don’t see the Cubs resting Busch on a day that a right handed pitcher is pitching. So don’t see how Mo fills in there. I do see Amaya is playing g a little 1st. That works.
  7. But what would be the point of resting Busch so that Mo can play 1st? Both are left handed hitters and Busch is clearly a better fielder. I get the idea of Mo at 1st if Busch gets injured, that strictly as a guy to give Busch a day off, I don’t see Mo.
  8. Little sucks. He has always sucked and honestly I have no idea why people like him.
  9. I agree that having options is good. However if all your options are bad options then It isn’t good. Kind of like the playoffs last year. CC could have gone with Rea, Assad, Shota, Brown, etc… against the Brewers. He has options but all of them sucked. I do think the guys they have, all have some upside. If any of Conforto, Carlson or McCormick can find their best self next year that would be awesome. If Alcantara can prove he can hit that would also be awesome. But there is also a real possibility all of them aren’t very good, or in Kevin’s situation, maybe just not ready yet. I just hope at least one works out. Would have really liked Goldy. Then, if not him, either Hoskins or France. Maybe Mountcastle gets DFA. He wouldn’t be bad.
  10. Well the bench is Shaw and back up catcher. That is pretty much established. It is the last two spots. And no really obvious answers. If Shaw is OF #4 who is utility. Bottom line is who are the back ups. Who backs up 1st? Who is the righty off the bench? But a huge deal. I get that. But not a good problem to have.
  11. Is it a good problem? I don’t believe that is true. They have no clear cut bench guy from this group. All have serious warts. All could actually suck. I don’t consider this a good problem to have.
  12. Neither of them has played 1st base either. I guess Shaw could add that to the list of positions he plays🤷
  13. Good catch. I forgot about that. No idea who will back up 1st base then. Should have gotten Goldy when they could have.
  14. At this point he would be my hope as well. If not him, maybe an internal option (Long). I don’t see any of those other guys being an upgrade over Long and none of them play 1st base. And, IMO, the Cubs wouldn’t have any interest in Pham. He is a bit of a clubhouse cancer.
  15. Couldn’t they move Shelby Miller? Or isn’t he in the 40 man roster? Conforto probably is a NRI. He will get a lot of opportunity since PCA and Suzuki won’t be around for a few weeks.
  16. I have an interesting Conforto story. Back when he was drafted in 2014 I was in my second year as a STH. I had an issue with something the Cubs did that year and voiced my displeasure with them. TR has his EA set up a day I was at the game and he would come and talk to me about my concern. This was the day after the Cubs drafted Schwarber. Actually the day they drafted Cease. Anyway TR told me how they ended up with Schwarber. He said they offered four guys a $3M, underslot deal, to be drafted 4th. Whoever got back to them first they would talk to. Two of the guys were Conforto and Schwarber. I don’t remember who the other two were. Kyle actually asked for $3.25 and they ended up setting on $3.125. Ballpark was pretty empty. They were playing the Marlins. It was just so strange that the owner would come and sit down and talk to me for an entire inning. He told me a lot of diffent things that day. He basically told me Jeff S (can’t spell his last name) was going to be traded. He told me what went down with the Tanaka signing earlier that year. Some stuff about the ballpark and the neighborhood issues. Honestly, it was like being at the game with a buddy, but the buddy happened to own the team. So when he said something it was an opinion, it was fact.
  17. Not really sure what to make out of this. If he makes the team does he take Mo spot and Mo starts at Iowa? Is he the 4th outfielder. Conforto’s past is much better than anyone else they have brought in. Down numbers last year and not too good the year before. But he still has a career OPS+ of 119. If he can find his stroke he would be a good addition to the bench, at the very least. Bench of Auston, Shaw, back up catcher and Conforto with Mo still DH. Or Mo goes down to catch and one of McCormick, Carlson or Alcantara is the last bench bat.🤷 Guess he is worth a look.
  18. I looked up Nellie Fox. He did it every year until his last year where he struck out twice and didn’t take a walk. Just thought of him randomly. Wonder if Grace is actually rhe jbkh one. I imagine yiu have to put some sort of length of time in baseball into the equation. I mean there may have been a guy who had one year in baseball where he had 5 PA and walked once and didn’t strike out. Can anyone confirm Grace is the only player who did this in mlb history?
  19. Listening to the Giants announcers is really making me appreciate Boog and JD. I would even take Cohen ahead of these guys.
  20. This ridiculous narrative on Bregman not being very good all comes from the argument that he cheated and he was only good when he cheated. Never mind that during the time it is suspected that the Astros cheated by signaling batter on what pitch was coming when they were at home, Bregman had better road numbers. Honestly, I hope he is right and Shaw is as good as Bregman. That would mean Shaw would have a great career. I am fine with that.
  21. 🤷 he has been doing this in two different threads. I am tired of trying to talk sense into him. You guys have at it. I will probably end up putting him on my ignore list rather than responding to him any longer. His posts add nothing and arguing with him isn’t going to help.
  22. This is a ridiculous statement and extreme body shaming.
  23. I would rather Bregman be in the team than Shaw. How do you feel about Shaw and his beliefs. And, while players wouldn’t say anything against their teammates they would propt them up unless they meant it. Bregman was cited the guy who will be most missed by his previous team because of what a great guy he is and how he takes time with every player to help them. The pole suggested the Red Aox young players will greatly miss him.
  24. You are on an island here. And very wrong. Bregman is one of the most respected players I. The game. Maybe instead of this stupid rant you are on about him, listen to what players, coaches and other baseball personalities say about him. Seems you are the junky one that can get past something that happened 7 years ago. Honestly, do you even pay attention to any of the Cub players being asked about Bregman. They all love the guy. Get over it. The only one who is clueless here is you.
  25. If the Red Sox cut Yoshida would he make sense to pick up? Career OPS right around .800 against right handed pitching. Maybe he is the strong side platoon DH and the Cubs let Mo catch in Iowa. Might be a wash as dar as this years team production, but could be a good thing of term for Mo, if he can catch regularly.
