  1. If I were a Cards fan, I wouldn't be mad about the Edmonds signing... I'd be giddy that a hated rival will be starting a washed-up, old player. In any event, one positive I can say about Edmonds is that he wasn't the idiot who almost caused a multi-car wreck ahead of me on the freeway today...at least I'm pretty sure it wasn't him
  2. Agreed. The sooner everybody just views him as a baseball player and not a Japanese baseball player, the better. It would help if analysts would quit w/ the ridiculous comparisons to ONLY other Japanese players... Not saying it doesn't happen to other races, but man, people wonder why race relations are still an issue....well, at least those people who'll even acknowledge issues remain. And you're right, people wearing that stuff look like total tools, but lack the sense & self-awareness to recognize it.
  3. Defense helped him and he had a few warning track outs. Still, he looked okay. I liked that he didn't implode like Marquis would have.... But, yeah, the defense definitely did provide him some help--but then again, at least he allowed his defense to help...
  4. Yup...and that would automatically disqualify him in the eyes of the Cubs organization, regardless of availability... I just LOVE our front office!! meh :cray:
  5. I was concerned that someone would think that. By that same token, I also thought that just the name Soto would at least get people to read the discussion. Let's face it, if you don't love Soto, you have no soul. But guys, we could probably get Brian Roberts for him (plus Gallagher + Cedeno + Ascanio). That would be a terrific move!
  6. I've never stopped booing him... I'll probably boo him when at home, but will cover my mouth when at Wrigley the 2 series I'll be there...
  7. As much as Marmol is getting used, every game thread title should show "[opposing pitcher] vs. [Cubs starter] / Carlos Marmol"
  8. I voted Podsednik, b/c if I recall correctly, the presumed rationale for getting him was his left-handedness (which he does have), ability to steal bases (b/c that is so uber important, you know) & I think he was being somewhat touted as someone who could get on base to attempt the aforementioned stolen bases (which is, of course, patently ridiculous). My expectations of his performance should he don the Cubs pinstripes was less than zero...
  9. These kinds of threads tempt fate way too much for my liking... We're Cubs fans for god's sake, we should know better.
  10. That's Cy Wainright. Good...I hope that POS gets shelled some more.. I hope Marquis can drill him in the chin the next time they play the Cubs..
  11. Gallagher's even sitting in the dugout thinking, "You're serious Lou? Chad Fox?!?!"
  12. Good job DLee...another 10 runs and I'll feel good about pulling this one out
  13.
  14. We're toast.... Where's the All Star break when you need it?
  15. State ownership of pretty much anything hurts, IMO...
  16. and what would that be? The one thing, I mean. :)
  17. ARE YOU NUTS? We'll be lucky to not get swept by AZ...
  18. Are there any active 80 runners? Nook Logan, Joey Gathright. Taveras is prob. the fastest runner, but since he is right-handed, he doesn't get the same advantage. Taveras was clocked 3.56 on a bunt from the right side.  I'm curious to see how Lee fills out once he has been in the States for a few years. At his height, and w/ a different diet + plain ol' physical maturity, I'm doubting he'll retain the 4.0 speed....
  19. He wants to "keep them in their place" lest they develop too much confidence at the plate...I see what he's doing here.
  20. Of HGH? Yeah, that will help a lot. HGH doesn't really help healthy young adult males. If you're injured or want a billion dollar contract you might try anything, but it's basically snake oil. Screaming about PEDs every time Ankiel's name comes up just looks silly. Yeah, that was the intended implication. It was mostly a poorly-executed take on a Will Ferrell line in Blades of Glory......
  21. Both throws were laser beams...guess he upped his dosage from a 1/2 cup to a full cup
  22. Well, Ronny came through w/ a big hit tonight.. I suppose that means he'll be rewarded w/ a week's worth of rest on the bench. Oh, and yes, Lieber will get crushed. Hope the bats are hot; this scoring a measly 3 runs is tough to take w/ all these guys we're getting on base.
  23. No. Its called regression to the mean, a concept that very few here seem to grasp. If you'd like to know more about it, look at Theriot's season last year. A full month or a half month's worth of stats should not dramaticly alter anyone's valuation of a player (except for injury). Kindly pound this into Lou's brain... Thanks.
  24. 1-17 not lost by me, but yet we cant get Cedeno in the lineup with our starting 3rd baseman out. I mentioned DeRo's struggles in a game thread the other day, & someone had the gall to be sarcastic about it.. Oh, and I'm getting tired of Lou's tough guy routine... It might've worked 20+ years ago Lou, but not now. I fail to see how anyone is intimidated by this guy. Reporters should be asking him tough questions instead of the softballs he gets (for the most part) post-game...
