  1. Let's get some runs so we can get Marshall the win.
  2. Congrats to everyone that called score. Nice bloop Mabry. Nice bloop Jacque. Time for Barrett to come through.
  3. At least we aren't the only team with a problem throwing out runners. The Dodgers are 0-16 on the year.
  4. Giving up a home run to the #8 hitter is not a formula for success.
  5. Was Ramirez walking down the first base line? Cause that wasn't close at all.
  6. I'm not arguing this anymore because the game is on.
  7. No I'm not. I have my personal opinions and you have yours.
  8. Agreed. I love Vin Scully. His comments about Maddux taking the Dodgers to school on Monday were absolutely classic.
  9. Were you looking at the numbers just a few posts back? ARod is much more dangerous in the postseason and in general in "clutch" situations than Jeter is. Yeah Jeter has had a few memorable hits. He's also had more than his fair share of not-memorable groundouts to second base in the postseason. Are you going to look up all of the numbers for the players that Rocket Sauce posted? I'm going to pull Morgan Ensberg out because I know he stunk it up, but would you really rather have him up with his career .224 BA in the postseason over Jeter? Just because a player is a good hitter doesn't mean he is the best choice to have up to bat in a clutch situation. To change sports, Robert Horry is known as one of the most clutch three point shooter in the postseason. Is he a great player? No. Is he an All-Star? No. Would you rather have LeBron shooting or Horry? How about Kobe or Horry? Personally I would take Horry shooting a three at the buzzer over anybody else. That's my point about Jeter. Obviously Jeter is a better overall player than Horry, but the implications are the same.
  10. I could easily think of several dozen hitters I'd rather have up than Jeter. Care to name a few? I would also take Pujols also. excluding ortiz and pujols: derrek lee, a-rod, travis hafner, manny ramirez, carlos delgado, todd helton, jason giambi, jason bay, vladimir guerrero, mark teixeira, miguel cabrera, ken griffey jr, morgan ensberg, lance berkman, adam dunn, aramis ramirez, andruw jones, jim edmonds, chase utley, david wright, chad tracy, richie sexson, paul konerko, brian giles, brian roberts, michael young, pat burrell, gary sheffield, jeff kent, geoff jenkins, nick johnson, jhonny pheralta, troy glaus, david delluci, bobby abreu, matt holliday, miguel tejada, mike sweeney, cliff floyd, hideki matsui, randy winn, jason varitek, victor martinez, and jermaine dye. And I'm not sure I wouldn't take a few people coming out of retirement... Larry Walker certainly... maybe even Tony Gwynn or Don Mattingly And what exactly have all of those players done in the postseason or in clutch situations in general to make them so scary? I'm would be afraid if I was a pitching in an important situation if Ortiz, Pujols or Jeter was coming up. Would I be afraid if ARod was coming up? No because I know ARod gets all of his HR's and RBI in 15-2 blowouts of the Devil Rays. It depends on situations. Is Jeter the best hitter in the league? No. But he comes through in the clutch. Maybe not every time, but nobody does.
  11. When was the last time Jeter threw a pitch for the Yankees? Can Jeter take every at bat for his team? This isn't basketball and one player can't win a World Series for his team. So don't give me that BS argument.
  12. I wouldn't necessarily say Mabry has an advantage over Murton against Penny because Mabry has "seen" Penny before. The lefty-right matchup is a valid reason though. I don't know that it has anything to do with Mabry & Penny. It just seems to me that if Dusty once to rest Murton once every 14 games..... well, it's just not that big of a deal. I agree with you on that one. Murton needs a rest. But AlwaysaCub made it sound like it was partly due to Mabry having seen Penny before. Obviously that isn't the only reason. I'm just nitpicking. I apologize.

  14. He had a nice 3 for 4 with a HR against Cincinnati on 11 April..... then down the tubes. *nods in agreement* I see Corey Patterson hit a HR for the Orioles. He must have sold his soul to Satan.
  15. I'm looking forward to seeing Iowa when the come to Sacramento in May.
  16. I would have to say that Gagne's save streak and Hershiser's scoreless innings streaks are better than DiMaggio's hit streak. A hitter generally gets four plate appearances per game, i.e. four chances to get a hit. For a pitcher, one bad pitch and your streak is over, whether that is scorless innings or consecutive saves. I would say that the scoreless innings streak is even better than the consecutive saves streak because depending on the opportunity, you can give up a run or two and still get a save. You don't get that chance for the scoreless innings streak. But they are all quite impressive. Agreed. I'm saying Dempster has a looooonnnnng way to go. As in, at least a year.
  17. I wouldn't have minded seeing Lee a spot or two higher, but I think Z was that high because of his ability to stay healthy, which is invaluable for a pitcher. You're not considered the 11th best player in the league because you can stay healthy. He's the 3rd highest ranked pitcher on the list. All of these pitchers come before Zambrano if I am starting a team: - Jo. Santana - C. Carpenter - J. Peavy - R. Oswalt - D. Willis - J. Beckett Ben Sheets would have been on my list, but he just can't stay healthy. And I'll gamble with Beckett. Part of what BP factored in was age, which is why the Upton brothers were on the list.
  18. I definately wouldn't have brought in Dempster in that situation. I think leaving Ohman in was the right move for Dusty.
