  1. At least Jacque is finally hitting over .200.
  2. I'll cut him a little slack, but not very much. First of all, he started the inning and created all of the trouble himself. Second, since when is the sixth inning pressure packed? I know it's a close game, but it's not like Dusty put him in in the eighth to hold the lead. He needs to pitch better in his next outing though. I'm not going to criticize him a lot, but I'm not letting him off the hook yet. And what is it with Cubs pitchers walking everybody?
  3. But jigman (honest question), is Rothschild calling the game from the dugout if it's Maddux, Z or Rusch? couldn't tell you with Rusch. with Maddux, it appears Michael is calling the game this year, but I recall the calls in Maddux games often came from the dugout last year. Z worked mostly with Blanco last year, but Barrett called the game the other night. I do know that last year and the year before, nearly every pitch a bullpen pitcher threw when Barrett was catching came from the dugout. edit: well the pitch didn't literally come from the dugout...you know what I mean I wouldn't be surprised if Maddux called his own games. Or at least worked with Barrett to teach him how to call a game. I'm not sure though. But Maddux is the only pitcher I would trust to call a game.
  4. Okay, I'll be the one to say it first: with all the nail-biting about Lee, Acosta's DEATH puts things into perspective. The pitching staff back then was fun to watch. But I disagree with you on two points: (1) Baylor was IMO more to blame - he got Acosta out of there after 2001 as a desperate move to save his own hide, and (2) I remember Flash flushing away more games than saving. I don't think that year's bullpen was as good as this year's. But I do think that year was much better than the last 2 or 3 years for us. And yes it is an extremely sad day.
  5. I agree. I'm fairly superstitious but I think one needs to be started.
  6. If you just said an MLB team lost their franchise player today on a freak injury and asked which team it was most people would say the Cubs.
  7. huh? :-k Shoot....I forgot my English to English translation book. Fortuantely I have mine. Mark Prior's Calves started the thread. The actual Mark Prior is a star. The actual Mark Prior is also injured. On the random day that Mark Prior's Calves starts a thread our best player and MVP candidate Derrek Lee gets injured. Also on that same random day, one of the best left handed relievers in the league gets injured. Coincidence?
  8. Here are the updated standings through the games on 4-19. ndistops, I fixed my problem with hawkcub, but I checked the other players and the values I had the right players for each of them. I may have just had an incorrect homerun total for a player on my previous list. 55 TruffleShuffle 52 RoastTheD---Goat XZero77 49 J-Shils 48 TrueBlueCubFan sherwood921 ndistops Jazz 47 Mizzou jd6762 Garwilly Serena wade Outshined_One 46 karenmac bukie TheDude soccer10k 45 Rocket Sauce IMB! 9. I think even the division title is still within reach. Lee's injury (if serious) is a disappointing setback, but not a death sentence. Good teams overcome injuries to key players (e.g. the Cardinals last year with Rolen); other players step up. So far this is a good team, and I think they can overcome it. It won't be easy, but it's well within the realm of possibility. Losing Lee isn't the same as losing Rolen. It's like losing Pujols. I highly doubt the Cardinals win 100 games without Pujols in that lineup and with Rolen in. I think they get seriously challenged by the Astros for the division if you gave them Rolen and took out Pujols.
  10. Anyone else find it interesting that somebody the name of an already injured star player in their login name started the game thread during which another one of our star players and another very good player get injured?
  11. As long as Cedeno learns how to throw the ball better he'll be fine. People have been criticizing his defense, but it is just his throwing that's the problem. I don't think that the bullpen will be significantly compromised if Eyre is out for a while because we have other good arms.
  12. I just talked to my dad, who is a doctor. He said that a knee contusion could be anwhere from a couple days to a few weeks. He also said that when an x-ray comes back inconclusive that it means they'll probably do an MRI tomorrow but it isn't necessarily bad news. But he said even if it is just a sprain that it could actually be worse than a broken wrist because of the lingering affects.
  13. I would say to bean Furcal, but he'd end up stealing second and scoring to tie the game.
  14. Of course not. It's Hendry's fault. That bum didn't give Furcal enough money. A couple extra mil a year and Derrek Lee doesn't get hurt.
  15. Can someone who saw it please explain what happened to Lee and Eyre? Tragedy.
  16. Can someone who saw it please explain what happened to Lee and Eyre? Tragedy.
  17. I like Pierre being aggressive. We know they can't throw anyone other than ARam out stealing.
  18. Oh I believe it can... I believe it can get worse... Do not start an injury thread, plz. Worse than having our MVP and our top lefty reliever get hurt on one play? What is Neifi going to get hurt also...oh wait, that would be good.
  19. I think we can start the injury thread now. It can't get any worse than this.
  20. Might as well start the injury thread now. It can't get any worse.
  21. well done Not possible. We are the Cubs. If you did that then nobody on any other team would get injured except our players. Well, and Nomar and Griffey. But nobody else would get hurt.
