  1. Dude, come on. The least you can do is spell our MVP candidate's name right. Derrick, please. That's not even close. As for this team, I would hardly call it great, I think with Lee in the lineup we have a decent team THIS YEAR, but that's only because the NL isn't very good as whole this year. I don' care what anybody else thinks or what Bob's personal statistical opinion on the matter is. This team isn't going to make the playoffs this year without DLee playing for a couple months. Honestly, I hope somebody remembers this and, if we make the playoffs, ridicules me relentlessly for it. But I don't see Cubs 2006 and making the playoofs in the same sentence.
  2. With those two on the mound for the game, the groundskeepers will have to raise the mound a few inches after the game. There are also rumors of earthquakes in the St. Louis area tomorrow beginning around 1:15 Central Time.
  3. I think that definately helped derail his career. All a pitcher had to do was throw a curve on the outside part of the place and Sosa couldn't touch it. Definitely. Other than the possible roids, the biggest catalyst in his offensive explosion was that he learned to work the outer half and hit the opposite way. After the beaning, he was scared to death of the plate, and started flailing at outside pitches instead of stepping into and driving them. It was a sad sight to see. Everybody knew he was doing it and he wouldn't change.
  4. Do the -3 runs come from Pujols hitting 3 homers and running the wrong way around the bases? No, there's a bench clearing brawl in which Zambrano single handedly beats up Pujols, Edmonds and Rolen at the same time. The Cardinals are penalized for 3 runs by the umps out of disgrace for their manhood. A bad pun: Lee single handedly beats up Pujols, Edmonds and Rolen at the same time.
  5. Well, I'm sure the players involved accidentally drank some beer and accidentally took out some bats and accidentally went Office Space on the boombox. Definately an accident.

  7. All this margarita talk is making me thirsty. To bad I have to go to work in a few minutes. But I am bartending tonight.
  8. Yes. The point is, we weren't good enough to win even with Lee. Now we are a bad ballclub. Looks like it will be Mabry/Walker/Restovich @ 1B, in whatever combo Dusty likes. Wow. Don't panic? My goodness. I was panicking before Spring Training began, and with good reason----we lost all our pitchers before we even started preparing for the season! Panic doesn't describe the appropriate response to Lee's injury. More like resignment to fate. We weren't good enough to win even WITH Lee? Man oh man the negativity on this board sometimes. Last time I checked we had a 9-5 record with Lee and above the Cardinals. We were winning series and on a good pace to seriously contend. Now without Lee, everyone else needs to step it up. And I think they will. Seriously, why not just give up this year. Aren't we suffering enough after the loss of Lee? To have to come to this board to such negativity. We were a game or two up on the Astros in 2004 with a week to play and blew that without suffering any injuries. Why should we be positive when our MVP candidate is going to miss 2 months? I'm not throwing in the towel, but to have World Series aspirations is ludicris.
  9. I would say that we don't know if Prior and Wood are going to be back at full strength. During Spring Training, the initial reports said nothing was wrong with Prior, then he would only miss a few days, then he would miss a couple starts, then he's out til the middle of May. Frankly I don't know what to think of our pitchers and when they are actually going to return. I wouldn't be surprised at all to have Wood come back only to go back on the DL within a month. To rely on him is one of the worst things you can do. Prior is another thing. As somebody else pointed out, Prior has had some freak injuries. But hints and target dates aren't sure things.
  10. That's was just stupidity and Farnsworth's IQ of 12 showing itself.
  11. I'm not so sure about it being mysterious.
  12. Divide by zero, YOU GO TO HELL!! Sorry, engineering joke.
  13. Well, until the next ROOKIE who registers takes your place, why, yes, yes you are a beer fetcher. We reserve the right to haze our newbies. It's a longstanding ritual here. The good news is you'll be able to tell the next ROOKIE to get YOU a beer. :D It has nothing to do with the fact that you are a girl. Like Bigbad said, you're the rook.
  14. The problem there is that Eyechart can only play 1B. And he hits like a pitcher.
  15. Stone sounds fairly optimistic about the Cubs. He brought up the fact that we have a weak schedule coming up and said he would play Hairston at second and Walker at first.
  16. Can we take off the question mark from the post and just make it "Restovich called up" since he did get called up and its not speculation anymore.
  17. Lee to the 60 day DL would solve that problem. I've seen 6-8 weeks. With a rehab assignment that comes to 60 days. I'd be suprised if the 60 day DL'd him. Fractures can heal faster than projections. I broke my wrist once and instead of the 6-8 weeks, it took about 4 to heal. First, did you have the same wrist injury as Lee did? Second, did you factor in the recovery time? They aren't going to take the cast off on one day and stick him in the lineup. I have seen 8-10 weeks on the injury. Putting him on the 60 day DL would ensure that he wouldn't come back too quick. No and yes. You can help a break or a fracture heal more quickly, to a certain extent. Drink lots of milk, stimulate blood flow to the area, etc. I think Lee will miss closer to the 8 weeks than the 10. 8 weeks is 56 days. But I understand your point. I hope you are right.
  18. Wouldn't it have to be the other way around. The Dodgers would be getting ripped off enough by taking Rusch. Why would they take his contract and Nomar's? I thought the lunacy in my post would have been enough evidence that I was joking. I guess not. I wasn't sure. It is hard to tell if somebody is joking just from what they write. Good joke.
  19. In St. Louis's defense, everybody gets fleeced by Billy Beane in his trades. It's not really something to be surprised about.

  21. As for getting Nomar. Absolutely not. I have absolutely no faith in him staying healthy.

  23. I'm just as excited to watch this team play. It'll be interesting to see how they play. Can this team persevere? Perseverence is a huge part of this sport. Will they hang their heads and die or will they man up and win this series, hopefully bringing SOME optimism back to NSBB? *Kicks metal fan* :P I'm down, I'll admit it. Lee's wrist injury will hurt this team both offensively and defensively. He's a very important part of this team, no one can doubt that. At the same time, though, this team has managed to be impressively inept and bumbling over the past two seasons...and has still remained in the Wild Card race up until late in the season both times. This year's team is more fundamentally sound than those teams (although not quite as strong in certain areas), so I think they can manage to not completely fall into the dumpster while Lee is gone. Besides, Lee should come back some time in June. We know that's his month! ;) If they're at or above .500 by June 1st, they will have a legitimate shot of getting back into it. If not...there's always pining for next year, haha. 8 weeks puts him in the middle of June while 10 weeks puts him at the end of June. Remember that the cast will be on for 6 weeks. Then he has to rehab it back to normal strength. I think early July is the sure bet. Hopefully he makes it back early, but I don't want him coming back early if he's going to hit like Jacque Jones.
