  1. That's a great lineup, but it would most likely preclude us signing Schmidt or Zito. Even taking away Maddux and Wood ($20m total, I think), you add CLee at something like $13m, Loretta's going to get $4m MINIMUM, Izturis gets $4.15m, Ramirez likely will get a boost, then factor in the raises Z, Prior and some of the young'uns will get, and you're already $7-$10m OVER this years' budget. The Cubs absolutely HAVE to play 2 or 3 of Murton/Cedeno/Theriot/Fontenot in order to afford ANY free agents. And that means they have to deal Izturis. Hendry really painted himself into a corner with that trade. Prior's getting a raise? I realize he is eligible for arbitration but what has he done to earn a raise?
  2. Haha. Maybe Hendry will find some way to get Sheets on the Cubs.
  3. Shh...not yet. Now? lol..Good win Cubs-make it 4 non-losing series in a row tomorrow (3 series won, 1 split) Yes, it's okay now. We just don't need any jinxes here.
  4. Ha, Jose Cruz Jr. He cost the Giants game 3 of the 2003 NLDS against Florida because he dropped an easy, routine fly ball. The Marlins ended up getting the game winning hit with two outs (they were down 1) in that inning. Then he hurt them in Game 4 by making a horrible throw late in the game. His bad throw allowed an extra run to score and the Giants ended up losing by 1. Personally, I loved it but Giants fans didn't. Oh, and he was brought in for his defense and arm as well.
  5. So it appears this is when Keith Richards finally dies.
  6. I know, man. How long can he keep this up? How many at-bats should we give Pagan the rest of the season? How much should we play him in order to find out what we have? As much as it takes. I just know Jones is going to get his at-bats-so Pagan might get a few starts in RF the rest of the season, but otherwise Pagan and Murton will be fighting for playing time-I know many people have been upset about Pagan playing over Murton in the past. We need to find out what both can provide us. At the very least, one could be trade bait.
  7. I know, man. How long can he keep this up? How many at-bats should we give Pagan the rest of the season? How much should we play him in order to find out what we have? Plenty. As much as it takes.
  8. Good thing he was in the minors all year, eh?
  9. Fixed Fecal League Standings ---------------------------------- Team L W PCT GB Kansas City 71 38 .651 - Pittsburgh 68 42 .618 3.5 Tampa Bay 65 45 .591 6.5 Chicago 64 45 .587 7.0 Mine was correct because when the teams get a better record than the Cubs (i.e. if TB wins and the Cubs lose today) they move up and get contracted.
  10. Speaking of that Farnsworth fight, anybody remember this? Ha. Yeah, I remember that one. Good stuff.
  11. Urlacher didn't hit Benson very hard and it could be that he just hit him in the wrong place. Sometimes those things just happen. And Mike Brown didn't really even hit Benson.
  12. Speed. Defense comes next week. So bunting must be the following week then?
  13. My dad (Dodgers fan and Bonds hater) loves that play and remembers it like it was yesterday. Bonds couldn't throw out Bream and his two horrible legs. Everybody talks about Bonds' great arm (not true) but he couldn't throw out a guy who was slower than most of the catchers in the league. Purely awesome. EDIT: And wouldn't Francisco Cabrera be the Bill Mazeroski of our generation because he got the hit to drive in Bream?
  14. that sounds like something joe morgan would say. Hey, hey, hey. Completely unnecessary. I answered the question. Could Barrett win the batting title? Yes, he could. It is possible. Do I think he will? No. And for the record, Joe Morgan would say he hasn't seen Barrett play enough to know if he could win the batting title.
  15. Weaver isn't going to make enough starts for the Cy considering Liriano should make a few more and Verlander will make many more starts than Weaver. Papelbon will likely pitch the whole year as well. IMO Weaver could win the ROY but has no chance at the Cy. I don't think he will win either though.
  16. Seeing we are playing Pittsburgh I figure I'll post the updated Fecal League Standings. Fecal League Standings -------------------------------- Team W L PCT GB Chicago 45 64 .413 - Tampa Bay 45 65 .409 0.5 Pittsburgh 42 68 .382 3.5 Kansas City 38 71 .349 7.0
  17. I'm probably going to watch this game even though I know I'm going to be let down and disappointed by Prior's performance.
