  1. As a whole, the Cubs are the worst organization in the history of sports because of 97 years of futility. Recently the New York Knicks take the crown because Isiah Thomas has completely run the team into the ground. He has bogged the team down with horrible trades that forced the team to take on ungodly bad contracts that nobody else wanted. Because of this they have the highest payroll in the league which managed to get them the second worst record in the league. They didn't have their #2 pick in the draft this year and the Bulls will have the option of switching picks with them next year (which they will do because the Knicks suck and the Bulls don't) which means they don't have much of a chance of drafting a great player that can help them right away. They are likely going to owe Larry Brown a ton of money because they fired him (he had 4/$40 left on his deal). Right now the Knicks are a complete embarassment and there isn't much hope for the next couple years. At least the Cubs have the chance to make some good FA signings and trades to make the team competative next year. The Knicks will be lucky to win 30 games in 2006-07.
  2. Best news I've heard in some time.
  3. There is absolutely no way the Cubs get Zito. He's going to either New York (both teams), Boston, Anaheim, LA. No way he comes to Chicago.
  4. I could list about 50 Beatles songs that don't really "rock," but "Yesterday" is the most commonly known one. Sure, but there are a handful (or more) that do and you were careful to steer clear of them. That's my point. Isn't that what you do in an argument thought, try and prove your point? You surely don't want to give evidence to disprove your point and make your opponent correct do you? If somebody doen't think, on the whole, that the Beatles rock, they are not going to cite the songs that do rock but are going to cite the songs that don't rock (and usually the more famous songs) to prove their point.

  6. Pink Floyd had better win this matchup.
  7. you like them better personally or you think Metallica are actually better songwriters-musicmakers? Both. The guitar/bass work in their first four albums is just unbelievable. Some of the guitar solos in the songs are just ridiculous. "The Call of Klutu" and "Orion", as somebody said, are great songs that I will listen to in their entirety even though they have no lyrics. They wrote quality lyrics for each of those albums as well - which was one of my huge criticisms (among many) of "St. Anger". I'm not going to say the Beatles aren't rock because I think they are. But I think Metallica is the better band.
  8. Is that for sure? that's what len said. How stupid can they get? I don't even want to think about that.
  9. I think they are just going to leave him in their today, you dont want to go into game 2 with a guy making his big league debut and no pen. Unless of course he cant get his pitch count under control. His pitch count is already at 38 so they won't be able to leave him in too long if the game continues this way.
  10. This is looking like it's going to be a short start for Marmol. Ugh.
  11. In all seriousness, this relates to the racism piece ESPN ran in the couple weeks before the World Cup regarding how prevalent and widespread racism is in Europe. It's unfortunate that these types of things happen but they do and I don't think anything will ever change. There will always be people so set in their views that problems will occur. And this goes beyond just racism. In virtually every aspect of society there will be extremists and they will cause major problems. I feel sorry for Jacque that he has to go through this, as well as anybody in the past that has gone through this as well. I'm okay with criticizing people for a poor job performance but when you go into issues like race/politics/religion you are crossing the line. Unfortunately people feel that they can cross this line whenever they want to and being inebriated isn't an excuse. I can only hope that stadiums across the world continue (as it sounds like this is what is happening) to kick people out and ban them from stadiums for racist comments. It's a step in the right direction.
  12. I hate Hawkins, Baker and Jones because they suck at their jobs. I've hated plenty of white Cubs as well. *cough* Glendon "Gopher Ball" Rusch *cough*
  13. At least Mariotti is thinking for himself, unlike the Tribune columnists. I'm not saying he is correct in his thoughts, but at least he is forming his own conclusions and is not having his articles written for him by the paper/owner.
  14. Hilarious. Especially because the picture shows him pitching obviously left handed.
  15. Because Manny Ramirez hits behind him. Pick your poison. As a pitcher, you're just kind of screwed in that situation. The Kruker did come up with an interesting solution though. He said to walk both of them in that situation and hope Lowell grounds into a DP. Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!! Well that's why he's on tv right? Because he's brilliant.
  16. Wilbon mentioned Wood and Prior on today's PTI in relation to Liriano and said that Wood/Prior's injuries always started out as a forearm or muscle problem as well and just got worse.
  17. I'll watch because I have nothing better to do in the morning.
  18. By offense I assume you mean better OBP because Rowand's SLG is actually higher than Nixon's and he has more HR's than Nixon as well. Rowand's OPS splits are virtually the same (.759 vs Left, .745 vs Right) where as Nixon doesn't show the ability to hit lefties much at all (.865 vs Left, .688 vs Right). I would rather have a guy that we could throw out there every day and not worry if a righty or lefty is pitching than a guy we would have to platoon. We already have Jacque Jones. Personally, I like Jacque but I don't like it when a Jacque bats against a lefty because I have no faith he is going to get a hit. Granted, Jacque's splits are a bit more drastic, but it's the same type of thing.
  19. Does anyone else think ARam coming back could hinge on whether Dusty Baker comes back?
  20. I didn't realize that Matthews Jr. was almost 32. I would pass on him as I believe he is likely to regress back to his career numbers after he gets his new contract.
