  1. ESPN.com story The only good thing for the Angels is that Colon has made just 10 starts this year and is 1-5 with a 5.11 ERA in those starts so he hasn't been a big part of their season this year. Even still, this won't help their chances to make the playoffs.
  2. Isn't Thomas Jones injured as well right now? If so, when is he supposed to return?
  3. Not me. Michigan the week AFTER Penn State is going to be very, very tough. Then we have to hope we don't have a let down the next week @Michigan State. If we get through the first four weeks unscathed, though, we're going to the championship game. Purdue-Stanford-UCLA-Navy-North Carolina-Air Force-Army are all blow outs waiting to happen. If we're undefeated going into USC, anything but a thrashing puts us in the title game. I'm assuming you mean anything but a thrashing of Notre Dame by USC. If so, that isn't the case. West Virginia could easily go undefeated as could the winner of the Ohio State-Texas game. With Bomar being done at OU, Texas will be the clear favorite in every other game and, with playing OSU at home, should be the favorite in that game as well. OSU will be the clear favorite in every game but the Texas game. As like last year, the winner of that game will emerge as a clear National Title contender. That being said, if Notre Dame runs the table, they will be in the title game. But if they barely lose to USC, it's far from a sure bet that they play for the National Title.
  4. But don't our guys have to clear waivers too or at least have no team worse than Atlanta claim them in order to trade with the Braves? It's hard for me to believe someone not claiming a Pie or Marshall, etc... I thought minor leaguers didn't have to clear. I might be wrong. You are probably right about Marshall though. I guess Mateo is a major leaguer now too, so you're right, my proposal won't work. I think it's just players on the 40 man roster that have to clear whether they are in the majors or not.
  5. The Padres solely because my dad wouldn't pull for the Cubs to make the playoffs so I'm not pulling for the Dodgers. He also didn't pull for the Cubs in 2003 in the playoffs. He takes great joy in reminding me that Cubs haven't won the World Series in 97 years and that Halley's Comet has passed twice since the Cubs last won the World Series.
  6. I think he could win it but I don't think he will win it.
  7. Random bit of information. The left fielder for the Pirates in that game who made that great throw to the plate was none other than Barry Bonds.
  8. Hey cl, I posted this in another thread but I'm not sure if you saw it. Do you have the Farnsworth-Wilson fight video? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.
  9. Congrats to Maddux. I wish you well.
  10. Exactly. He's a fantastic LOOGY. Problem is, he's faced 112 righties this year as compared to 79 lefties. What the hell Dusty's thinking with this guy is anyone's guess. His numbers against lefties this season have been really, really good. Against righties...things get ugly. Cripes, he has a .72 WHIP against lefties and a 1.04 WHIP against righties. This is like Mike Remlinger all over again. Ugh. Where did you get those numbers? Ohman has a WHIP of 1.00 vs lefties and 1.64 vs righties for a 1.35 WHIP overall.
  11. Evidently it's got to be done by 1 p.m. tomorrow (eastern time I think) It was reported that a claim was put in already. However, the team is unknown as off right now. So the question is did someone claim before he fell to the Red Sox chance. The Braves have until 1pm EST tomorrow to complete a trade.
  12. This year could be one of the most wide open years in recent memory. Nobody is a sure bet to make the title game especially with matchups like ND-USC and OSU-Texas. Last year virtually everybody had Texas-USC and the year before most people had Oklahoma-USC in the title game as well. It should be extremely entertaining. I agree with the thought that we could see a couple of one-loss teams playing for the title. As somebody else said, and I've thought this since the Sugar Bowl last year, but WVU has the best chance of going undefeated this year.
  13. He played in an All-Star game and won a Gold Glove award.
  14. I believe it starts with the team with the worst record in the league that the player on waivers plays in. Jones is on Atlanta (NL) so Pittsburgh would get the first shot, the Cubs would have the second. Kansas City would get it's shot after the NY Mets and Detroit would have the last shot.
  15. I guess I should clarify what I meant. I should have said "Does anyone else think ARam coming back could depend on Dusty Baker not coming back?" I think that ARam is more likely to leave if Dusty returns to the team. EDIT: I don't buy ARam's nice comments about Dusty to the media and think he was just saying them so he doesn't stir up any controversy in the clubhouse.
  16. Schimdt will end up with the Yankees... You mean Seattle. Count on it. The only saving grace is does he want to pitch in the AL? Well he grew up near Seattle, still has his home there, and has said many times how much he'd love to play for Seattle in his career. Since this is probably his last big contract, I'd say it's now. A lot of people in Seattle are practically pencilling him in. I think the Mariners will comply. So the Cubs now have virtually no chance of signing either Schmidt or Zito? Great. Middle of the road FA starter here we come.
  17. 30-13 lead for The Who. Wow.
  18. 39-39. Come on Pink Floyd.
  19. IIRC, USC's defense in 05 was young and had lost a lot of starters. Doesn't ND's 06 defense return a majority of it's starters from 05? And I would be worried about what Texas loses at QB considering they tailored that offense for Vince Young.
  20. Uh huh. How many D1 teams would love Lloyds career record. He is among the winningest active football coaches in NCAA Division I-A, has won five Big Ten titles, and brought Michigan its first national championship in 49 years. He has led the Wolverines to five Top Ten finishes in the last nine seasons. The Wolverines have played in three Rose Bowl game and one Orange Bowl game under his leadership. Say what you want about last year, but over his career he is a model of consitancy and almost every AD in the nation would love to have their football program 'underachieve' so much. ND ranked #1 or #3 whats the difference. They are going to lose to Michigan in the 3rd week of the year anyway. 8) I hope you're right.
  21. Not surprising that Texas wasn't ranked #1 since they will have an unproven quarterback. I thought OSU and ND would be 1-2 since they both have a majority of their offenses returning. I'm looking forward to OSU-Texas on September 9. Should be a good one.
  22. Good deal by the Sox. Get a replacement for Varitek, they probably don't have to pay much of his salary if any at all, and he'll be a FA after the year so the Sox aren't tied down next year.
  23. It will be nothing short of a travashamockery if Queen wins this matchup.
  24. Looks like my prediction has been a bit off.
