  1. Carpenter looks absolutely helpless with a bat in his hands. Those swings were horrible. Z at 40 pitches through 2 innings though. He needs to cut down the walks.
  2. you wouldnt be getting something for nothing.. youd be getting nothing for something...because all I am hearing is being proposed for Maddux its Class A prospects. and Maddux is worth more than that. Cause of his future HOF status. Teams don't consider HOF status in a trade. You consider how the player has pitched this year and how he is likely to pitch the rest of the year. Maddux hasn't pitched well enough to get the Cubs a very good prospect in return.
  3. He was only 5 games over .500. With the team we had I think most pitchers could have done pretty well. Hell even Rusch was pretty good that year for us. Either way this argument should be irrelevant as it was over two years ago and both Maddux and the team have gotten worse. IMHO maddux has not gotten worse. but the team definately has and that is what is making Maddux look worse. G GS W L Sv QS Hld IP H ER R HR BB SO K/9 P/GS WHIP ERA 33 33 16 11 0 20 0 212.2 218 95 103 35 33 151 6.39 88.7 1.18 4.02 35 35 13 15 0 18 0 225.0 239 106 112 29 36 136 5.44 88.6 1.22 4.24 22 22 9 11 0 10 0 136.1 153 71 78 14 23 81 5.35 85.9 1.29 4.69 His WHIP, ERA, Hits have all increased each season since he's been here. His K/9 has decreased every year. He's definetly gotten worse. everything but the ERA is his fault.... the ERA is the teams fault.... thats why I say he is still as good as he was when we brought him home in 04 How is his ERA the team's fault? ERA is Earned Run Average. The team has very, very little to do with how many runs Maddux gives up relative to his IP. Not to mention that he has his two highest seasonal HR totals in 04 and 05 with 35 and 29 respectively and will likely put up another season in the 20's this year. Are HR's allowed the team's fault as well? Didn't think so.
  4. Did Wendell Kim replace Bob Brenly in the broadcast booth? Because he's talking about sending every single runner no matter how fast/slow early in the game.
  5. 2-0 Cubs on a double to left by Jacque and ARam scores all the way from first.
  6. 4 years at 8-10 mil a year for Lugo? No thanks. Good luck trying to get that type of a deal Julio.
  7. Is that because he's has 2 more years on his contract but the other three (Walker, Maddux, Pierre) are FA's after the year.
  8. I'd do Walker or Hill for Ensberg, thats it. and then I might not do it. Huff would be more palettible to me But then where do we put Ensberg? I wouldn't get rid of ARam to bring in Ensberg. Ensberg will be turning 31 in a month while ARam is just 28. ARam is much more likely to have another 3-4 very good years.
  9. He's been traded to the Cubs for Nevin, Perez, and Rusch.
  10. Len and Bob just said Pujols is a late scratch from the lineup.
  11. Wow, not one but three people ahead of Truffle. Haven't seen that in a long time.
  12. I haven't been paying any attention to injury updates, but this can't bode well for either Sheffield or Matsui, and it's likely Sheffield. Matsui is signed through 2009 but Sheffield is a FA after this year. This move probably means that one of the two isn't coming back healthy any time soon and will likely signal the end of Sheffield in the Bronx since Abreu is signed for next year already.
  13. None, the Cubs play in the NL not the AL. Jokes aside, following the Cards, the Cubs play Arizona, Pittsburgh and Milwaukee. better? :D Yeah. If you define average as .500, then four (assuming you start with Monday's game against the D-Backs) and even that is iffy because Arizona currently has a record of 52-51. Milwaukee and Pittsburgh are both under .500 though.
  14. None, the Cubs play in the NL not the AL. Jokes aside, following the Cards, the Cubs play Arizona, Pittsburgh and Milwaukee.
  15. Oh man. Good times. Memories of earlier in the season when there still was hope. "That ball, deep into left field, way, way back. A GRAND SLAM!!!" Like you said, how I miss the good part of the year, no matter how short it was.
  16. Cubs Win!!! I can't believe the Cubs have a chance to sweep the Cards AGAIN this year. Finish them off Z.
  17. Definately improves the Yankee offense if it goes through.
  18. I'm willing to bet that if he is about to be traded, that Maddux knows what's up. He's not stupid and, if this really was his last game in a Cubs uniform, I'm glad he pitched well and saluted the crowd on the way out.
  19. Because middle relievers are a crapshoot, and it doesn't make sense to give them long-term deals. I'd definitely look to deal Howry. This will be his second straight year with a HEAVY workload, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he struggled next year. Besides, with Wuertz, we have an effective replacement. Dusty laughs at you because all he sees in Wuertz is a good AAA pitcher. In all seriousness, I agree that I think Wuertz could be a solid reliever. I don't want to trade Eyre/Howry but would be inclined to if the right deal was there. I would deal Dempster in a heartbeat though. Not for anything, but I wouldn't hold out for anything too special in return for him.
  20. Maddux to the Mets? Maybe. Maddux to the AL? Unlikely.
  21. The title brings one word to mind: ugh. But as long as were talking potential trades: ARam, Jacque, Walker for ARod.
  22. I think this is the first deal in which I would trade Z. Again, this is extremely hypothetical. But I'm not trading Z for just anybody.
  23. I still think he'll be traded but if he doesn't get traded by the deadline, then I think your scenario will come true but only if Maddux wants to come back. If he doesn't want to pitch anymore he won't but if he does, I have no doubt that Hendry will resign him.
