    I believe it starts with the team with the worst record in the league that the player on waivers plays in. Jones is on Atlanta (NL) so Pittsburgh would get the first shot, the Cubs would have the second. Kansas City would get it's shot after the NY Mets and Detroit would have the last shot.

    I guess I should clarify what I meant. I should have said "Does anyone else think ARam coming back could depend on Dusty Baker not coming back?" I think that ARam is more likely to leave if Dusty returns to the team. EDIT: I don't buy ARam's nice comments about Dusty to the media and think he was just saying them so he doesn't stir up any controversy in the clubhouse.

    Schimdt will end up with the Yankees... You mean Seattle. Count on it. The only saving grace is does he want to pitch in the AL? Well he grew up near Seattle, still has his home there, and has said many times how much he'd love to play for Seattle in his career. Since this is probably his last big contract, I'd say it's now. A lot of people in Seattle are practically pencilling him in. I think the Mariners will comply. So the Cubs now have virtually no chance of signing either Schmidt or Zito? Great. Middle of the road FA starter here we come.

    IIRC, USC's defense in 05 was young and had lost a lot of starters. Doesn't ND's 06 defense return a majority of it's starters from 05? And I would be worried about what Texas loses at QB considering they tailored that offense for Vince Young.

    Uh huh. How many D1 teams would love Lloyds career record. He is among the winningest active football coaches in NCAA Division I-A, has won five Big Ten titles, and brought Michigan its first national championship in 49 years. He has led the Wolverines to five Top Ten finishes in the last nine seasons. The Wolverines have played in three Rose Bowl game and one Orange Bowl game under his leadership. Say what you want about last year, but over his career he is a model of consitancy and almost every AD in the nation would love to have their football program 'underachieve' so much. ND ranked #1 or #3 whats the difference. They are going to lose to Michigan in the 3rd week of the year anyway. 8) I hope you're right.

    Not surprising that Texas wasn't ranked #1 since they will have an unproven quarterback. I thought OSU and ND would be 1-2 since they both have a majority of their offenses returning. I'm looking forward to OSU-Texas on September 9. Should be a good one.

    Good deal by the Sox. Get a replacement for Varitek, they probably don't have to pay much of his salary if any at all, and he'll be a FA after the year so the Sox aren't tied down next year.

    With 11 K's in his last 16 AB's, Dunn now has 127 on the year putting him on pace for 191 K's. I have a good feeling about this year. On a side note, are there any projections out there that project how many K's a player is likely to amass in his career? He's up to 860 in his career and is just 26 (27 going into next season). The record is 2597 by Reggie Jackson. I'm just curious at his chances at the record. EDIT: Reggie had just 780 K's through his first 6 years (he played 35 games in his first year while Dunn played 66) so I figured I would add that comparison.

    If Woody wants to come back to the Cubs I think he will have to take less guaranteed money, and maybe a year less as well, than other teams will offer him.

    So if you want to make a trade right now the players to be traded from both teams have to clear waivers? Any trades made after July 31 may only involve players who have cleared waivers. Thanks for the info.

    I would refute that. I've seen some bad play. He takes bad routes, gets bad jumps, and has dropped balls in his glove on multiple occasions. And the arms thing is much more than a small thing, guys take extra bases all the freaking time. According to The Fielding Bible, which trumps all else in defensive discussions (just ask a Cardinals fan), Pierre was 25th out of 35 CF's reviewed from 2003-2005. He's still been below average according to Davenport's fielding translations this year, but he has been better than he was in the past 3 years. So what we're seeing right now might be better than what we'd see in the future. There is no need to take a cheap shot at another poster for a disagreement you had with him in another thread.

    i have the segment in an .mp4 format (viewable in quicktime, itunes and your video ipod). i can send it to your email address if you want. if you have gmail, that would be better since it can handle large attachments (i believe the file is 25-35 MB). let me know...i'll be more than happy to send it to anyone who wants it. EDIT: what i'll do is this...when i get home tonight, i'll upload it to my girlfriend's website and post the link here for anyone who wants it. i'll keep it there for a week so it gives everyone who wants it enough time to download it. sound good? p.s. one of these days, i'll get around to converting maddux's 300th win, the 2003 nl central clincher, game 163 from '98 and the '84 nl east clincher to .mp4 for everyone. p.p.s. did anyone ever find out where one could purchase the sandberg game? Do you, or anyone else, have the Farnsworth-Wilson fight video? I can't find it but would LOVE to have it.
