  1. Frankly, I don't care which pitcher gets called up as long as Glendon Rusch doesn't start anymore. Whether it's Guzman, Williams, Ryu, or O'Malley (just throwing it out there), I don't care.
  2. 1. Carlos Lee is going to be a FA so we don't know where he is going to go. 2. ARam might opt out of his contract and could go elsewhere next year. Not saying he will, and I don't think he will, but it could happen. 3. A .330 OBP isn't that great and, as has been stated numerous times, the main issue with Izturis is that he is going to be paid over $4 mil next year. Not a good way to spend your money.
  3. There are not any other "kids" who are ready for the Bigs yet.... Williams as sucked at AAA Guzman has not been doing too well. and the Ryu guy has sucked too as far as i know. Who else is there that we saw in Sping Training???? no one. and theres not anyone who we didnt see in Spring Training that is blowing the minor leagues away.. so therefore there are no other kids to call up. First, let me say that somebody let me know if any of these guys are injured right now. If we are giving Rich Hill starts to see what he can do, why not bring up Ryan O'Malley? He's 26 as well so why not see what he can do? 5-6 with a 3.96 ERA in 104 IP in AAA this year. Ryu only made 1 start for the Cubs so why not give him a couple more chances? Then there is always Jerome Williams and Angel Guzman as well. As long as the season is over, we might as well see what the young players - especially the pitchers with Maddux gone and Wood on the DL - can do at the ML level.
  4. No offense to Raisin but the way this season has been going, everybody has a chance to start a long streak (4 is long for the Cubs) when the Cubs play the Cardinals this year.
  5. I'm moving tomorrow so I won't be watching this game. I probably wouldn't watch even if I wasn't moving though. Hopefully Hill at least shows some improvement.
  6. I am starting a Cashman appreciation thread. I'm not kidding. Why couldn't the Cubs have picked up Wilson when Lee went down? Instead, Hendry had to wait a month before finally making a deal for Nevin. People can criticize the Yankees and Steinbrenner for spending a ton of money, and when you have a high payroll it makes it easier to make trades, but you have to respect a team that is able to make deals like these.
  7. well, sometimes you have to cut corners when you're a small market team. oh wait, we have the second highest payroll in the league. MLB team payrolls These are as of the beginning of the year. I couldn't find an updated list but I highly doubt we have the second highest payroll. At the beginning of the year the Cubs had the third highest in the NL and seventh highest in ML. On a side note, I was surprised to see that the White Sox payroll was higher than the Cubs.
  8. so? why post if you feel that way. I think the Cubs got what they could for Walker, there was NO line waiting to get him for over a year. I like the Maddux deal too. Yeah, we get to waste another $4.5 million next year on Izturis.
  9. I agree. Frankly, given that the only thing Casey does is get on base, he's not going to help them much. Leyland isn't going to put him near the top of the order, so he's going to hit 7th or so. He'll get on base for Inge, but that's about it. I don't see this having much impact on their chances in the playoffs. I don't think this improves the Tigers much at all either. Better OBP, worse SLG by Casey. Both he and Shelton's OBP and SLG were inflated by hot April's. As long as Detroit isn't expecting any power out of Casey, and got him for his OBP, I think they'll be pleased with his performance.
  10. That is not his Dugout name, either. OMG Dugout fraud! :D haha, I just made that up by myself..... can someone appreciate a little creativity around here??? For what it's worth though, someone brought up Rusch and the Nathan's hot dog eating contenst a month ago. That would be me.
  11. Like Vance said, the thing that makes the deal horrible what Izturis is owed next year. I would have been content with anybody owed less than $1 million next year. Obviously this was a seller's market and Maddux isn't a great pitcher anymore so we weren't going to get top prospects in return for him. But trading for somebody that is owed $4.5 million next year doesn't help the team be successful. This means that the Cubs will have almost $10 million wrapped up in Neifi Perez, Glendon Rusch, and Cesar Izturis next year.
  12. This is absolutely depressing. Why not take the prospects? UGH.
  13. I don't think there was any way we could have acquired Abreu because I doubt he wanted to come play for this disaster we call the 2006 Cubs.
  14. Izturis 2004 is basically Juan Pierre 2006 except with more strikeouts and less stolen bases.
  15. I'm not sure what's more surprising: the Cubs actually winning four straight games or the fact that the Cubs are not the last team in the majors to achieve a four game winning streak in 2006. Baltimore is the only team that has yet to have a 4 game winning streak this year.
  16. Z pitching decently against the second best team in the NL coupled with Carpenter struggling against the lowly Cubs should vault Z ahead of Carp in the NL Cy standings. Hopefully the Cubs can help Z out more by hitting Webb hard tomorrow.
  17. 6 out of 7 against the top 2 teams in the NL is amazing.
  18. I'll tune in to see how Prior is doing when I get off of work.
  19. Acquiring Soriano would definately go against what everybody thought the Marlins were trying to do this year and would increase their payroll by about 66%.
  20. *raises hand* I was stoked when the Cubs acquired Barrett. I knew he wasn't a .208 hitter like he was in 2003 and I never dreamed he would be a .330 hitter either but I figured he would be a solid hitting catcher for the Cubs.
  21. Beltre got his contract because of one monster year which was better than anything ARam has come close to doing. ARam has had a better career than Beltre, but Beltre had one MVP-type year and parlayed it into a huge contract.
  22. Not really anything one can do about it. A few years ago Sidney Ponson was traded from the Orioles to the Giants because he would be an FA at the end of the season. Everone knew he'd re-sign with the Orioles the next winter - and he did. That may be, but Fat Boy Ponson did not have a deal lined up. He simply decided he'd come back over the winter. Having your mind set on it is one thing, having a pre-arranged deal is another How do you know he didn't have a deal lined up? Ponson could have said all the right things to the media and then "decided" to resign with the Orioles. Not saying that he did have a deal in place, but you don't know whether he did or not.
