  1. He does need to go. You dont bring Weurtz in in the 7th inning with the bases loaded. That is Eyre's spot. Also, why the hell has Walker not played since his two error game? I thought he was not being punished??? oh and they called Theriot up yesterday with the injury to Lee and he was not in the starting lineup..... WHY FRIGGEN NOT? Why not bring Wuertz in? Paul Lo Duca was batting (a righty) so you bring Wuertz in to face him. Then you bring in Eyre to fact the lefties (Beltran and Delgado). How is that a bad thing?
  2. Or how he was on a contending team year in and year out.
  3. Coming from a Royals fan, I would expect sour grapes. It seems that many from KC have a general loathing for St. Louis, and I'm not really sure why. And the whole "best fans in baseball" silliness is not something that every Cardinal fan touts like it's a fact. Granted, some idiots do, but certainly you can't lump the morons in with intelligent fans. Every team has intelligent fans, every team has idiots. Such is life. As for the throwing the ball back after home runs, I agree that it's stupid to be done in Busch. But it doesn't happen after every home run. In fact, I've only seen it done twice. Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill. I thought you all might dig this, even though I think it's pretty wrong. Sorry to say this, but I agree. Kansas City has an inferiority complex to St. Louis like St. Louis has one to Chicago. This "article" (actually a blog) would read no different if a St. Louis native moved to the North Side of Chicago, a San Francisco native moved to LA or a Boston resident moved to New York. Except for the fact that the teams you mentioned (STL/CHC, SF/LA, BOS/NYY) are all big time rivals whose fans don't like each other. I would hardly consider two teams in opposite leagues that play 6 times a year to be rivals. A good comparison would be an Oakland A's fan moving to San Francisco.
  4. Marshall has shown the ability to get people out at the ML level and has made numerous quality starts this year. Obviously not every young pitcher is going to pitch like Jered Weaver or Liriano, but I want to see some progress which is what Marshall has shown at points this year. Has he had his setbacks? Of course. Most young pitchers do. But Hill hasn't shown any progress. Again, how could you possibly percieve "progress" or "regression" in only FOUR CONSECUTIVE STARTS!? Why couldn't you? If you are making the same mistakes for 4 straight startsl then you aren't exactly making progress right? "sample size". Heard of it? Give him more than "you there! Succeed at the major league level in 4 starts or you're GONE!!". . "BTW be more like Marshall, he's good" (when he's not THAT good). . Hill has dominated AAA. He is ready to be a major leaguer. Now is the time to let him get over his lumps. It would be incredibly stupid if the Cubs only gave him 1 or 2 starts before they start pressuring him to do better. In a better organization, Rich Hill might be pictching with a 3.00 ERA by now. I have no doubt. If Hill has a 9.00 ERA after 10 starts, I might start to lean your way. But not after 4. BTW if this (your position on Hill) is what Hill has to deal with in Dusty and Rothy then I can understand why he has mental problems pitching on the Cubs. What about after 8 starts - which is how many he has at the ML level? 8 consecutive starts? NO. 8 starts spattered around 2 years of being tossed in the rotation and yanked back out, brought up, sent down. Talk to me when Hill gets a "fair" shot. I wasn't sure if you meant 10 total starts or 10 consecutive starts. Thanks for clarifying.
  5. Yeah, he would have an OBP of at least .900. Note: I understood what you were saying but I had to make the joke.
  6. I did that "in the right state of mind" as you put it and really enjoyed it. EDIT: I voted for Pink Floyd as well.
  7. I keep wondering how a guy can hit 291 and only have an OBP of 319. I watched Brad Wilkerson tonight who is slumping badly. He's hitting 234, but his OBP is still higher than Jones. Even against righties, which Jacque hits better, his isoD is only .030. No matter how you slice it he gets on base by hitting the ball, not walking. That sounds familiar....Hendry? I'm not saying it's the right way or the best way to get on base. I'm saying that it's the way Jacque gets on base. Factual rather than opinion.
  8. Z. DLee in 2005.
  9. Please don't run ARam out of town.
  10. Fixed, Family friendly here ya know. Not 1950's family friendly, though.
  11. There's no 'i' in sarcasm.
  12. Agreed. To continue with your landlord analogy, why let the tenant ruin the building anymore when you can evict him and start the cleanup a little earlier than normal?
  13. Because you touch your CAPS LOCK at night.
  14. BAD idea for Aram. How do you think the fans in the Bronx would like Aram casually jogging the bases? How about the NY media? If he thinks he gets a lot of guff in Chicago for not hustling somebody should remind him it would be a thousand times worse in New York. Based on the way they have treated ARod and what they have reported, I think the New York media would be much more focused on ARam's 6 HR's and 8 RBI's over the last 5 games to care about his hustle. EDIT: I do see your point though.
  15. What (if any) downside do you see to Prior throwing 116 pitches in game 2? Just curious. That he stayed in 2 innings too long in a blowout win. What better time to give your bullpen a little work, especially with an day off the following day, than in a blowout? My main argument that it wasn't that one game that killed Prior, it was the whole season of being overworked and September in particular. As I said before, Prior also had 5 days off in between Games 2 and 6. If Prior wore down in Game 6, it wasn't 116 pitches in Game 2 that caused it. A lost opportunity to give the bullpen some work? Is that honestly the only downside you see to having Prior throw 116 pitches? To him it was valid, b/c he had an extra day and had been throwing 120 pitches every start. No, you are misunderstanding my point. I am not saying that the 116 pitches Prior threw in Game 2 shouldn't matter because he should be used to it since he averaged 113 pitches during the regular season. I am saying that claiming Prior ran out of gas in Game 6 on five days rest rather than four after throwing 116 pitches in Game 2 is just wrong. He is much more likely to have worn out in the eighth inning due to the whole season of being overworked as well as (as Monco pointed out) throwing 119 pitches in Game 6. If Prior had pitched in Game 6 on three days rest, or even four, then you could use the extra 30 pitches as a legitimate argument. But to claim that Prior wore down in Game 6 because of one game is ridiculous.
  16. I'm joining you in this camp. It sounds like he has a good grip on things. He seems to know what makes up a good hitter and when is the right/wrong time to take a pitcher out of a ball game. I'm not so sure he's interested though.
  17. how? The only quote that looks particularly egregious is the first one, and if you consider the question was likely "Aramis, you hit very well this afternoon, what are your thoughts on the loss today?" even that is a fine response. Couldn't agree with you more. There isn't any context for the quotes and we don't know how he said it or his facial expressions while he spoke. They might have cut out parts of each quote as well to make it fit better in the article. I hope ARam doesn't go anywhere unless it's to NYY for ARod.
  18. He'll be facing Jeff Weaver as per Cubs.com. This could be an entertaining game to watch as it could be a high scoring affair - especially if the wind is blowing out. EDIT: If there is another thread on this feel free to lock this one.
  19. Any word on if Marmol will be missing a start.
  20. I would kill to be watching the 2004 Cubs right now. Yeah, back when we had a shot at winning.
  21. Prior is under contract for next year so I see no reason to not bring him back unless we get a good deal in a trade. As for Wood, unless he wants to sign a one year, incentive laden deal starting in the $3-4 mil range, he can go elsewhere. I'm done caring about him.
  22. Maybe it's just me, or maybe because the Cubs suck, but it seems like Novoa is the "stop the bleeding" guy. When a starter is getting worked over in the middle innings and needs to be removed, Novoa seemed like the guy who always came in. Again, this view may be skewed because the Cubs are usually losing but I rarely see Novoa in the later innings.
  23. This game starts at 7:10 Eastern Time and will be televised on WGN. I, for one, will be watching solely because of Z.
