I won't be able to watch this game because FOX will likely be showing either the Dodgers or A's game out here and MLB.TV will be blacked out.

In the 7th, runners on 1st and 2nd for the Cards with 2 out. Novoa hit Rolen between the letters on his back with a 1-2 pitch. Looper came in to start the bottom of the seventh, retired the first two Cubs players, then drilled ARam on the first pitch with the bases empty. And LaRussa called it unintentional after the game.

Guess the Rangers new strategy is to score 20 runs a game to win games. Could you imagine if they added Tejada to that lineup? :shock: When did they change their strategy? I never thought of the Rangers as a pitching team.

The question should be, why couldn't the Cubs package Dempster and a prospect to get Betemit? -
Probably the same reason the press gave for why the Sox were/are pursuing Soriano. There's no pitching available, might as well improve where you can. if Beane holds onto Zito and the Giants hold onto Schmidt, which I think they both will as the playoffs are reachable, the top pitchers on the market are Livan and Maddux. And IIRC, Maddux doesn't want to go to the AL.

CUBS WIN!!! Take that Tony LaRussa. Hopefully Z goes after Pujols on Sunday. I'm thinking, after Z hits his second home run of the game, he'll tackle Pujols and beat him down after rounding first base.

Yeah, pretty much. To put it another way. If LaRussa and Guillen were placed in a cage and forced to fight to the death, who would you want to come out alive?

Neither manager has gained much favor on the north side of Chicago and both like to retaliate for beanings, but at least Ozzie is straightforward about it. He may not be going about it the right way by making it public and saying he is going to instruct his pitchers to bean somebody, but at least he doesn't lie about it. LaRussa trys to make excuses and says that he only retaliates if his player is beaned intentionally. So take your pick, who do you dislike more. NOTE: This isn't a who would you rather have/not have as a manager poll.

Wasn't it the first series against the Cardinals in the beginning of the year with Barrett's heroics that Pujols was 1 for the series? IIRC, Miller and Morgan made a big deal about Pujols being hitless in the first two games of the series.

Since I hate Bonds and the Giants, the A's are my "hometown" team. They let their good players go and still manage to contend every year. And I started this thread because of the Rangers and Angels threads.

Unless you stop to remember that Ronny has a whopping 422 major league at bats to Neifi's 4955. Neifi has been proving for over a decade now how horrible of an offensive player he is. Judging by the last 2-3 years, Ronny is still improving. Furthermore, stories of Neifi's defense are greatly exaggerated. I really don't want to hijack this thread, but did anyone hear Joe Morgan last night say that Neifi Perez was once one of the best shortstops in baseball? The cubs/cards game was on 3 stations last night but I couldn't turn off Berman and Morgan. They are so bad at what they do that I'm just drawn to them. It's very entertaining. I heard it as well. Morgan said he was one of the best shortstops in the NL in 1999/2000 when he was with Colorado and that what killed his career was going to Kansas City.
