  1. Bo is right. Why do you say that? Notre Dame is annually rated the most popular team in the nation. It's not like they have to compete with the Wolverines for fans. Although I despise Michigan and want to see the series continued for rivalry purposes, ND isn't really getting much out of the series other than road money. It gives Notre Dame a usually guaranteed good matchup for their schedule. You know every year there are going to be a couple teams in every conference with 0, 1, or 2 losses so you'll get good games every single year in conference. Because they don't play in a conference, Notre Dame doesn't have many teams that are guaranteed to be good. Look at last year. Notre Dame's only good scheduled opponent was USC. Every other team they played was eh at best. Michigan provides them an opponent that is likely to be in the hunt for a BCS bowl year in and year out. I think they both help each other but as Pedro said, Bo is right. The thing is though, Notre Dame has several series they have taken off thier schedule in order to get a slightly more managable schedule. If we lost Michigan, one of those teams would play us. Tennessee, Florida State, and to a lesser extent Boston College are three teams who ND has basically chosen only to play from time to time because of the strength of their schedule. I do think though that Michigan needs Notre Dame less for only one big reason. Michigan can get into a BCS bowl with a Notre Dame loss meaning very little if they do well in a conference. For Notre Dame, every loss is vitally important as it's all based on where they finish in the BCS standings-and I believe they now have to get top 8 to get considered starting this year, so that will make a loss even harder to take-which means to cushion themselves against a loss, they have to play a tough schedule, which includes Michigan. BCS Info It says if Notre Dame finishes in the top 8 in the BCS standings they are guaranteed an at-large berth. So they can still make it if they don't finish in the top 8 but they wouldn't be guaranteed a birth.
  2. Heading my way? Was supposed to pick up a load at 8:00 over at P & G in Lacombe going to Chino, CA..... but the load isn't ready. If I do pick it up, I can't take it all the way to CA because I need to be home by Fri...... so they were talking about having me run it into Dallas and switching there with another load...... but nobody seems to know when this thing will be ready..... so I don't really know what's going to happen. Maybe I'll just get PO'd and go home ??? Nah, come to Chino. It's about as close to me as Ontario is. We can exchange notes on how to win game threads, something the rest of the posters here could learn. :) I'm all for just letting either you or Fred take my place in the rotation as well as your own. I didn't have any luck this year.
  3. Is it at 25 pages yet? I figured I would help out.
  4. Where did you hear/read this? Bruce Miles said it on page 11 (premium) of this game thread: No, I don't know that he did. I had it at 20-80 him coming back about a month ago. I've got it at 50-50 and rising every day right now. Thanks. I figured it was in the Game Thread somewhere but I didn't feel like going through and reading the whole thing.

  6. ETA: Cubs.com says he's a go on Saturday Cubs.com confirms this information.
  7. If the Cubs played the Cardinals in Wrigley every day for the rest of the year, then I would put money on them to make the playoffs. Otherwise, not going to happen.
  8. One thing that struck me: Even though the Tigers are 9 games ahead of the Mets for the best record in the league, the Mets had a higher probability of making the playoffs.
  9. I would rather play for the 2006 Dodgers than the 2006 Cubs also. The comments don't seem Maddux-esque and I don't think he meant to take a jab at the Cubs but it's how it came across. Either way, I still wish him well.
  10. After needing 104 games to get their first 4 game winning streak of the year, the Cubs will try to get their second 4 game winning streak in 2 weeks.
  11. We need someone to light a fire under us. We lack an emotional leader. I'll volunteer. Go get 'em boys! Give it your all! Nothing less than a 110%! (I'm feeling 25 pages tonight.) In Regular or Premium?
  12. Bruce - any chance Pagan gets some time in CF to give Pierre a day off here and there or is Dusty just using a Pagan/Murton platoon in LF? EDIT: I guess you answered that question above. Nevermind.
  13. Thanks Bruce. Not a bad lineup and I like that Murton is in there.
  14. I thought we did but apparently CubsBullsBears thinks differently.
  15. I thought Vance was in the "Hire Davey Johnson" bandwagon (I refused to shorten it, ), so if this is the "Real Vance" then he has had some flipping of the mind. Nah...he's been firmly for Dierker first, Johnson second...pretty closely for quite a while. Didn't Vance start the Dierker for manager thread as well?
  16. Hmm...where have I heard the "It's not the elbow, we swear" excuse before?
  17. I don't really mind the night games and, as has been stated already, I feel they are a necessity. I do like that they have a number of day games though because that is how I became a Cubs fan. Coming home from school and turning on the tv to watch baseball was very nice.
  18. That really says something as to how pathetic the NL is. Agreed. I find myself taking cursory glances at how Cincy is doing to see if the Cubs can draw closer. And that's just ridiculous considering how laughably bad the Cubs have been. I do the same thing. As bad as we played the first half at least the 2nd half is enjoyable. It's nice having a half of season not worrying about Prior and Wood. The status of the rest of the NL just pisses me off even more that Hendry and Baker did such a bad job. The division was there for the taking, and so was the entire league. MacPhail's absurd "contend within the division" mantra, and the quest for mediocrity that this entails could have actually done some good this season if they managed to do anything good in the offseason. As much work as the 2005 team needed to get better, it wouldn't have taken much to make this 2006 team at least .500 capable and possibly contending. I was talking about that last night with a friend of mine. All we had to do is play .500 baseball to be in it. It's a shame a team with a 95 million dollar payroll couldn't even do that, with or without DLEE. .500 baseball for the year would put the Cubs 1 game out of the wild card.
  19. I'm quite partial to the music of "When The Levee Breaks." They lyrics are good as well, but I absolutely love the beginning of the song.
  20. I cooked some sausages up for myself and one of my roommates the day after that home run.
