  1. Is there any day of the week that we have a winning record? CUBS are 10-11 on Sundays CUBS are 9-7 on Mondays CUBS are 8-11 on Tuesdays CUBS are 8-11 on Wednesdays CUBS are 3-10 on Thursdays CUBS are 8-14 on Fridays CUBS are 8-13 on Saturdays "Monday, Monday. So good to me..................... " edit: last year was better....... Team record by day of week W L pct Sunday 17 9 0.654 Monday 7 12 0.368 Tuesday 15 9 0.625 Wednesday 11 14 0.440 Thursday 6 11 0.353 Friday 13 12 0.520 Saturday 10 16 0.385 It looks like in 2005 the Cubs had a case of the Monday's.
  2. At least you didn't sign Jeff George like the Raiders just did :D Brilliant move by my Raiders. #-o 10k, are you ready for the thursday night game? It'll be just like the old days in the AFC west. Granted it's pre season but I always enjoyed the Seahawk - Raider games. I don't really watch much of the preseason and won't get to watch this game because I have to work. As long as Aaron Brooks plays horribly, I don't care about the result. It is too bad that Seattle had to move to the NFC though because that was always a heated rivalry.
  3. Yeah, I guess I should have clarified. I meant what you are implying: that Delmon Young should not be allowed to play professional baseball in any league in 2006.
  4. Just saw this on ESPN.com. This is going to absolutely kill the Sox with Manny being hurt right now as well. Hopefully he gets better.
  5. Dusty first thought of it when he was on deck for Aaron's #715.
  6. peripheral ERA is what your ERA should be based on your peripherals. based on the theory that pitchers can only control strikeouts, walks, and homeruns (ie they cannot control BABIP). So what is the formula to get the peripheral ERA for a pitcher?
  7. I don't know about Ortiz but Manny has sat out the past few games. Also, how horrible does that lineup look without those two guys? Loretta and Youkilis as the 3-4 hitters. Unbelievable.
  8. A few things: 1. Can somebody explain to me what the terms "component ERA" and "peripheral ERA" mean? 2. Warren, your third premise is completely invalid and you are looking at it in an extreme way. There is no way you can consider a pitcher giving up 100 runs in a start and present that as part of your argument. 3. So by your argument Warren, Carpenter or Willis deserved the NL Cy Young in 2005 over Roger Clemens. I realize this was an extreme case but there was a thread talking about this a few months ago and there have been numerous examples over the past few years where a pitcher with more wins won the Cy Young over a pitcher with a better ERA and WHIP.
  9. Some said the same thing about Paplelbon this spring. Tampa is as close as it gets to the minors anyways. I was referring to the bat incident and the fact that I think he should have been suspended for the remainder of the year.
  10. He should not be playing professional baseball this year.
  11. At least you didn't sign Jeff George like the Raiders just did :D Brilliant move by my Raiders. #-o
  12. go Aggies! UNC is usually pretty darn good though. We always seem to pick it up and play well against the better teams while suffering letdowns against the teams that aren't as good (with the exception of Sac State). Hopefully I will be able to attend all 5 home games this year. is there much tailgating? :D Unfortunately with the no open container policy that the city of Davis has, not in the traditional sense. But the Davis Graduate usually opens early on Saturday's for college football in the fall.
  13. Worked well there, I thought. I don't agree at all with the opinion either, but rolleyes as a response is stupid and immature, some might even interpret it worse than that. This is just part of the campaign though. Rolleyes doesn't do anything except aggravate people, hence my desire to see him eliminated. I like to use the rolleyes to show sarcasm in my post and I don't think that aggravates people. But I agree with you in the way the other poster used them. Brilliant post. I do what I can.
  14. I was thinking more along the lines of the theme to "The Natural" with slo-mo footage of some moon shots from right field. Circus music.
  15. I love this line. And I think this was a well written article as well.
  16. "Newman, Kramer, if you'll indulge me. According to your story Keith passes you and starts walking up the ramp then you say you were struck on the right temple. The spit then proceeds to ricochet off the temple striking Newman between the third and forth rib. The spit then cam off the rib turned and hit Newman in the right wrist causing him to drop his baseball cap. The spit then splashed off the wrist, pauses - in mid air mind you - makes a left turn and lands on Newman's left thigh. That is one magic luggie." This is what I thought of following what UK said about the ball bouncing to the left and right as well as straight up.

  18. Worked well there, I thought. Talking to a couple of guys who are around Gm's everyday, they tell me that to be successful, you have to take risk's. Risk's as in signing players like Dempster, Miller, Carpenter, etc. Guys who are coming off arm injuries, are a risk. I dont know what is so around to understand. A good example of this, is Kerry Wood. Some GM is going to take a RISK on him. No gurantee he will stay healthy, but there is always that chance he will stay healthy. That is considered a risk. Those risks are not the problem. It's the Rusch's, the Bynum's, the Neifi's and the Macias's that are the risks that should not EVER be taken. Signing those players isn't called taking a risk. It's called stupidity.

  20. UC Davis at Northern Colorado at 12:35 PT
  21. Me too. Add me to that list. I hope hill contines to prove me right. BWAHAHAAha. Go ahead and gloat because you earned that right but be sure to readily admit when you are wrong.
  22. A couple of things. 1. I agree with the cyclical argument. For a few years, the Western Conference was absolutely dominant in the NBA and nobody thought the Eastern Conference had a chance to win the NBA title during the 5 years the Lakers and Spurs won the NBA titles. But now the Eastern Conference teams are much better. Last year both Miami and Detroit were considered serious contenders for the title while both Chicago and Cleveland were on the rise. The last two NBA finals have been up for grabs and most people were split as to picking which team would win. 2. If you took the DH out of the discussion then of course things would be different. For one, the White Sox would have never resigned Konerko AND traded for Jim Thome because they knew it would be hard to find spots in the order for both of them. The Red Sox wouldn't be hurt that much by David Ortiz playing in the field and they would have either traded Kevin Youkilis or found a place for him in the field. The list goes on. If a team wants a player they will find a place to put him. 3. This is related to #2. The difference would be solely dependent on that lost spot in the batting order. Rather than having another actual hitter batting a team must deal with a pitcher batting 2 or 3 times a game, which would have a big affect on a team's lineup.
  23. Me too. Add me to that list.
  24. Pujols should win the award. Also, in reference to the voters, I guarantee you that a couple writers will mention the fact that Pujols finished second behind Bonds in 2002 and 2003 as well as third behind Bonds and Beltre in 2004 and that should factor in.
