  1. I didn't see the play, but if the centerfielder can get to the ball and calls off the other defenders, the secondbaseman has to get out of the way, no matter how adamantly he is calling for it. it's not a question of who is more talented. it's a matter of protocol to prevent just such occurrences. Well from what I saw...Utley was clearing making a call for the ball..I didn't even see Rowand make a call..it appeared he was even backing off..but at the split second charged in again. Generally the player coming in is going to have an easier time making a play on the ball than the player coming out. IMO Utley should have backed off.
  2. Is this some sort of hazing by the Cubs to get the young pitchers acclimated to going on the DL at the ML level? Marshall, Marmol, and now O'Malley have all been put on the DL this year. How long will it be before Hill, Mateo, and Ryu make appearances as well? I think the Cubs can get all three on the 15 day DL by the end of the year.
  3. "Alright, I'll tell you the truth. I'm not gay. My name's Buck Naked, I'm a porno actor."
  4. Now we know a reason why he turned down the 4/48 offered to him.
  5. That was an amazing catch. Dallas' offense looked very good and when Bledsoe was the QB. I wasn't able to watch the second half (went out to dinner) so I'm not saying Romo didn't look good. But Bledsoe was on last night.
  6. This was expected.
  7. As I updated in the ARam poll, he's currently at a .905 OPS on the year.
  8. Yeah considering Weaver, Wilson, Choi, Pollite, and many others were DFA'd. I mean I understand Hendry doesn't want to admit he made a bad investment but it's time to own up and cut the guy. He had one career year and the Glendon Rusch we are seeing today is the real Glendon Rusch. Don't forget Sidney Ponson was DFA not once but twice this year.
  9. I actually had a conversation about this with my dad today and he brought up a statement that was made but didn't remember who made it: "It's the Hall of Fame not the Hall of Very Good." Palmeiro was very good at his position for a number of years and benefited from playing a long time and staying healthy. But he was never known as the best player at his position in the game at any time during his career and was often overlooked. He would have been elected to the HOF if he didn't test positive but because he did, as you said, he probably won't get in. McGwire has the benefit of breaking Maris' record and being known as one of the most feared hitters in the game when he was healthy. I think he will ultimately get in but it will probably take a few years.
  10. Wow. Only the Cubs can routinely pull something like this off.
  11. But look at those stolen base totals. They TOTALLY make up for all of his shortcomings.
  12. .905 OPS after Monday's game.
  13. Texas is returning 16 starters this year and, while they do lose Vince Young, they do have a very good team this year. With Bomar getting kicked out of Oklahoma there isn't much competition in the Big 12 for Texas this year. Their only real tough game is against Ohio State and that will be at home. If they win that game, they very easily could run the table and find themselves in the BCS Title game. Even if they do lose to Ohio State, they should still finish with just 1 loss and win the Big 12 again. The Texas defense and running game and recievers will all be better this year. If Vince Young was back, they would be a unanimous #1 team in the nation and one of the biggest preseason favorites ever. Vince Young was one of the greatest "winners" in college sports history, and you don't just replace that very easily. I think you are going to see a lot of similarites betwen Colt McCoy and Major Applewhite, the only thing is he has a true freshman who could very easily be starting over him. I think it is very possible that QB is not much of a question for Texas. Should that be the case, their is no reason Texas will not be defending its National Championship. The only thing I worry about for Texas is the game against Ohio State is early in the season so neither quarterback will be tested in real game situations at the college level. Not only that but Texas will have a different offense this year because they tailored that offense to Vince Young's abilities. If it was later in the season and the quarterbacks had a little more experience then I might change my tune. I think Ohio State will pull it out but it should be a close, entertaining game and I wouldn't be surprised to see Texas emerge victorious. I will say that I believe the winner of the Ohio State-Texas game will be playing in the National Championship game on January 8.
  14. It's not really a Neifi moment per se, but didn't Todd Walker go to the locker room to get a new jersey during a game this year and accidentally put on one of Neifi's jerseys?
  15. Yeah. I will be extremely disappointed if ARam leaves. Hendry needs to do whatever it takes to resign him.
  16. I call him Gopher Ball.
  17. Only if the Cubs are allowed to play St. Louis every day for the rest of the year.
  18. With 2 more strikeouts today, Dunn now has 146 on the year and is now on pace for 191. A little behind the record pace but I will not lose faith in him.
  19. And the Captain Obvious Award goes to... Brad! "Look at the big brain on Brad." This was in no way meant to offend or attack, rather to simply quote a great movie.
