  1. Tommy Lasorda in for "Take Me Out To The Ballgame".
  2. That will help in the Fecal League Standings.
  3. If the Cubs suck again next year with what will likely be a new manager, then Hendry will be on the hot seat. But I don't think he is right now even though he should be.
  4. 220% on Sunday's, eh? That's a lot of support.
  5. Yeah, he's been looking solid in the 88-90 range with his fastball now.
  6. Please, most of us are men, not women.
  7. Len just referred to Theriot as "The Riot." Awesome.
  8. Then pick a new favorite team.
  9. Crappy Gameday. It just said "in play, no outs recorded" and then it was suddenly a 2-run homer. That's probably because the ball hit the foul pole, bounced back onto the field of play and Pagan tried to pretend that the ball was still in play.
  10. I haven't been watching too close but the fastballs I've seen have been in the 85-88 range.
  11. Contrary to what the title of this Game Thread may say, this game is being played on 9/14 and not 9/13.
  12. Sounds completely mean spirited to me. I think its brilliant. I wouldn't actually ruin his painting though, I'd probably put some sort of plastic wrap around it before writing on the plastic. He would likely be very distracted. If you actually defiled the painting that would be mean-spirited. But doing what UMFan83 suggested would be hilarious and a good idea.
  13. Three things come to mind: (1) Ichiro is under contract for $11M in 2007. Free agent after the 2007 season. (2) Near as I can tell, he did not get a no-trade clause in his last deal. (3) On several occasions last year and last offseason, Suzuki questioned Seattle's commitment to winning and their managerial choice. If there is a private feeling amongst Seattle management and/or Ichiro that he will not be a Mariner in 2008, it may be in everybody's best interest to deal him this offseason. Cubs certainly have the financial wherewithall to get him, and his OBP would be a big improvement. Cot's has Ichiro without a no-trade clause.
  14. 4-12 for the rest of the year is all I ask for.
  15. Come on man is that really needed? He has a serious health problem. All he has done is try to get a spot on a big league team, he hasn't hurt anyone. Get Well Glendon. Save it. If your gonna spew venom do it towards everyone making comments like this. Soccer10k said pretty much the same thing I did. Furthermore, Im pretty sure those who have been around here a while know im not the type of person to try to slam someone when they're down. It was nothing more than a light-hearted comment. Dont get your undies in a bunch. Frankly, I don't see a problem with either of our comments. I said I hoped he got better (which was sincere even though I said for the 2008 season) and expressed my desire to never throw another pitch for the Cubs again. I was not being sarcastic and did not imply that I didn't want him to get healthy again. For yours, I'm sure you meant no ill will towards Glendon and were just trying to make a joke. I laughed. We didn't say we hope this forces him to retire. We didn't wish serious physical harm upon Glendon. I don't really see the big deal with this. Other people besides myself and Roast said things along the same lines.
  16. Has he really "figured it all out" since? AVG .312 | HR 17 | RBI 74 | OBP .372 | SLG .501 6 triples, VS. LEFT: .288 / .885 VS. RIGHT: .312 / .845 HOME: .312 / .893 AWAY: .302 / .820 He strikes out kkind of lot, but I'd say he's doing just fine Wow, I thought he was doing a lot worse than that this year. Serves me right for being too lazy to click my mouse a few times and look up his stats. Contract year. If he does it next year, then I'll believe he figured it out.
  17. Hopefully he'll be healthy for the 2008 season, you know, when his contract with the Cubs is over.
  18. MLB Gamecast has Garcia at 82 pitches through 7 innings.
  19. I love baseball superstitions when a pitcher has a no-hitter/perfect game going.
  20. You don't need to listen all that closely. Oh, really? http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=78730 I'm actually a little suprised at their response.
  21. I'm not all that excited by guys who are so motivated by individual awards. With pitchers I usually don't mind because they know that more wins will win them the Cy Young award and obviously if your pitcher gets a win then your team will as well. But in this case Z should realize that wins don't matter anymore this year because the season is over and that he could seriously hurt himself by pitching more.
  22. The Cubs don't have right to be picky. They have to gamble. It's much better than their longstanding strategy of sticking with mediocrity. But what happens if we sign Nomar and he misses most of 2007? Then are you going to criticize the Cubs for stupidly spending money on a player that is perennially injured? Would that be the only move? I would sure hope not. Considering that I wanted the return of Nomar as part of the 2006 strategy, I have already contemplated the threat of him not being around all year. The key is to not center your entire season on such a player, like the Cubs pretty much centered everything on Prior and Wood the past few years. They'd still have to get offensive upgrades elsewhere. I would hope that wouldn't be the only move as well and I agree with you. I don't want Hendry to even consider Nomar because I know Hendry won't have a backup plan in place just in case - or when if you want to be pessimistic - Nomar gets hurt again. It's one thing to not have a backup in place for Derrek Lee because he had been consistently healthy but it seems as if Hendry didn't even consider the possibility of Wood and Prior not being healthy this year.
