  1. I had to go with the Yankees because of that ridiculous lineup although Minnesota was a close second. GO A'S!!
  2. Do any of those teams have to play anyone good other than USC. I am not impressed at all by Cal after being destroyed by a team from a real conference. That game couldn't have gone any worse for Cal. Even if they lose a close, tough game on the road they would have received some respect. Now everybody will go back to the Tennesssee game. It sucks but I understand why it happens. Regardless of what you say about Oregon beating/losing to Oklahoma, they did play very well against an out of conference opponent from a major conference. That being said, I'm picking Cal to win a high scoring entertaining game.
  3. No this is just the end of one chapter of torturing. The book aint over either, its the beginning of a whole new chapter. Can't you let me live in my dream world for a little while? :D
  4. Translation: "If they offer me a buttload of money that is significantly more a year than anyone else does, then I'll come back."
  5. Gotta agree with that. Didn't even think about any sexual innuendo until you pointed it out.
  6. Wow, they went from 8.5 games over Minnesota on July 1 to a 1-game lead on July 31. A bigger overall loss of games by Detroit, but still impressive. eta: though I suppose not nearly as impressive as losing 7 games in a week like the Cardinals did The Wild Card is a crapshoot. I realize that they lost 7.5 games in the WC standings in a month and that is never something to brag about but with the WC there is the potential for numerous teams to get hot and catch you. With the division, realistically there will be maybe two teams with a chance to catch you. And they got swept by the Royals to end the year.
  7. I think the AL's cumulative 154-98 record against the NL in interleague play this year holds more weight than a seven game series between one team from each league when determining which League was better this year. Arguing the WS determines which league is better is almost as bad as saying the All Star game determines which league is better. As far as I'm concerned, the AL was a far better league this year.

Well that sure is interesting. I agree. It was the starting pitching that really hurt the Cubs this year (although DLee going down didn't help matters). While I don't think Jacque's contract is going to turn out to be the best of FA signings, he was more than serviceable this year and was the least of the team's problems. I realize that the contract is an issue and isn't something that should be ignored when discussing the player but I think that some people focus too much on the contract and find ways to dimish Jacque's on-field production because of it. Give the guy some credit where credit is due.
  9. Lou Piniella, Felipe Alou? No thanks.
  10. You should just put that in your sig in large, bolded type.
  11. Worst case scenario is Dodgers-Yankees (Dad vs Mom) but not for that reason. Having to hear my dad brag about the Dodgers winning a World Series would be insufferable. And while my mom wouldn't do that, it's still the Yankees which would be horrible. Cards-Yankees would be a CLOSE second.
  12. I'll agree with that. I think a lot of people had the Yanks/Red Sox making the playoffs but like you said, the White Sox/Indians both making it wasn't much of a stretch going into the season. As for the NL, I don't think many people had two teams coming out of the NL West.
  13. Red Sox fans should be thanking Theo Epstein right now. Just think how furious they would be if Pedro had been signed by the Red Sox to the same 4 year deal and then this happened. Oh man.
  14. =D> Pure gold.
  15. Adam Dunn made a valiant effort (76 K's in August/September/October) but with 194 K's, he fell just one strikeout short of his own record. Dunn now owns the top 2 season with K's for a hitter. I have no doubt that someday Dunn will crack 200.
  16. Last game thread (if you can even call them threads over the past couple months) of the year. Can't really say I'm disappointed based on how the year has gone.
  17. So we ended up with the #3 pick, eh? While it's not #1, we did end up with the worst record in the National League. Gotta be proud of that accomplishment.
  18. With my dad's birthday being August 21st that leaves me two days to attempt to see the Cubs next year when the come to San Francisco.
  19. I'll wait until the official announcement before I start celebrating.
  20. I'm surprised that nobody commented on this part. I guess I'll be the first. Just say no to Lou Piniella. Two or three years in Chicago? I hope not.
  21. So what does that leave the capacity at? And if (knock on wood) the A's advanced to the ALCS/WS, would they open Mount Davis then? Just curious as to how many tickets could be available.

  23. No way. Oregon, while not officially, is already a one-loss team in my book. If anyone deserves a bump up with a win this week it is LSU. They will have beat the #5 team, and their loss was barley losing to #2. First, I agree that LSU/Florida is the best game this week although Cal/Oregon could be the most entertaining game of the week. Sayy what you want about Oregon having/not having a loss and Cal getting blown out by Tennessee but Cal has dropped 40+ on four straight opponents and Oregon has put up 30+ in all four games this year. You want a tough defensive game, watch LSU/Florida. You want an offensive shootout, watch Oregon/Cal. Second, I wouldn't bump LSU up at all if they beat Florida other than the spot they would move up with Florida dropping assuming nobody else ahead of them loses of course. If Oregon goes to Berkeley and beats Cal, they should move up a couple spots. I think Georgia will lose to Tennessee which would drop them. Either LSU or Florida is going to lose and Oregon would jump in front of them. If LSU beat Florida, I would put Oregon above LSU. They wouldn't be top 5 though. But I think this will be a moot point as I see Cal taking to Oregon.
