  1. Interception by Illinois on the 1 yard line. Wow on 0-0 in the second quarter.
  2. Rich Hill strikes out 10 but doesn't get Adam Dunn once. Disappointing.
  3. He would no doubt get a similar if not better deal in the open market. If the Cubs offered that deal I'd think he'd take it, if not then he doesn't want to be here... I think it all comes down to whether or not ARam wants to stay in Chicago because Hendry will offer him good money.
  4. Considering the Blue Jays are trying to challenge the Red Sox and Yankees and want to be competative in the AL East, I don't see them trading Wells in the offseason. ETA: Maybe at the trading deadline next year if they aren't in contention and either don't want to resign him or can't resign him.
  5. I saw the Chargers-Raiders game and I can only imagine how much fun Chargers fans had with that game, and deservedly so. One of my managers at work is a Raiders fan and went to Oakland for the game with a couple of his friends. They tailgated for a couple hours before the game. When I saw him a couple days later he said "I had a great time until the game started."
  6. This year, it's probably accurate.
  7. The Yankees don't make decisions based on finances, they base it on the level of Yankeeness and/or championships. It would be stupid, but I could easily see them dealing him, especially if they bomb out in the playoffs. I agree with the first part in general, although it appears that they may be hitting their upper limit in their payroll. I completely agree with the second point about how the Yankees make decisions. Where we disagree is whether Cashman really believes A-Rod doesn't help them win games. My opinion is he sees through all the negative media hype and figures that unless he gets Cabrera away from the Marlins, A-Rod is the best choice at 3B for his or any team. Who knows how much of this media BS Steinbrenner buys into though. If Big George demands that Cashman trade ARod, does Cashman really have a choice?
  8. I can't emphasize this enough. Has there ever been a club who produces less position talent in their minor league system? We're talking Mark Grace here. How can this go unpunished for so long? Yup. It always baffles me how the Cubs never have any position talent in the minor leagues. Every report is how great the pitching is. I'm not complaining about the good pitching but you would think they would have stumbled onto a couple good position prospects over the years.
  9. I care about two things: 1. How well Rich Hill pitches. 2. How many strikeouts Adam Dunn gets. He's sitting at 182 for the year (his ML record is 195) with 10 games to go. I have faith in Dunn.
  10. I'm going. I'm going to the game tomorrow also. Hopefully they win tonight, so they can clinch tomorrow. I wish I could go but there is no way I can get Friday or Saturday off. It's just not possible. If by chance the A's advance to the ALCS (only saying by chance because I don't want to jinx it) we'll see what days the games are. I would love to go to a playoff game if somebody had extra tickets.
  11. Don't forget about speed/stolen bases.
  12. If you take out Jacque throwing the ball then yes, he has been adequate defensively in right field. But throwing the ball hard and accurately is part of playing defense. Factoring in throwing the ball, he has been average at best.
  13. Where is CubsBullsBears? He would love this thread.
  14. I would love nothing more than to see the A's win the World Series. They have always been my American League team but they always seem to choke in the postseason. Hopefully this year will be different (assuming they get there and don't lay an egg against the Angels in this last week and a half and miss the playoffs).
  15. Minnesota (+3) Pittsburgh (-2) Buffalo (-5.5) Carolina (-3) Green Bay (+7) Washington (-4) Indianapolis (-7) Miami (-10.5) Baltimore (-6.5) Arizona (-4.5) Philadelphia (-6) Seattle (-3.5) New England (-7) Atlanta (-3.5) Since the Raiders have a bye this week and they are my weekly lock, I guess I'll have to pick a new one for the week. Baltimore only giving 6.5 points to Cleveland is my lock. Cleveland has given up the 3rd most yards per game (including 158 on the ground) and have gained the 4th least. While Baltimore's offense has been nothing to brag about, their defense is another story.
  16. Or maybe he's not good at sharing the knowledge. Having the ability doesn't mean you can get others to learn to do what you do. That's a very valid point. The best teachers are not necessarily the smartest or the ones that have the most ability but the ones that can explain the information in a way for all of the students to understand. Knowledge is nothing for a teacher if you can't explain the material so the students understand what you are saying.
  17. Regarding Torii Hunter from cnnsi.com Take it FWIW of course but I figured I would post it.
  18. He is currently 30, and will be 31 this coming January. His next contract probably takes him from 31-35. That is his real age, right? Thanks gooney. I think the Ramirez situation is going to hurt the Cubs big tiem this free agent season unless they have already agreed to a deal. If Ramirez takes his time over the 15 days after the WS it could hamper the moves the Cubs would take and put them behind the 8 ball and we all know they don't exactly great plans to begin with. I think Hendry will wrap him up quickly for the reason you mentioned above. Both sides seem satisfied with ARam in Chicago, so I think ARam will get an extension rather quickly. I hope you're right.
  19. How much will you be posting in Singapore though?
  20. Petition to ban people making outrageous claims about Mark Prior. Petition to ban the phrase "petition to ban". I win.
  21. While Soriano is having a career year, I wouldn't even think to compare him to Adrian Beltre. Soriano has at least put up numbers in previous seasons comparable to what he's done this year whereas Beltre's 2004 season was such an anomaly that it seems like you switched his stats with somebody else's for a year. I understand the point you are trying to make, but Soriano's career numbers hardly suggest he will have a huge Beltre-esque dropoff next year.
  22. 17th for me. I'm ahead of you here just like I will be in the NSBB football league. :D You did have a two and a half year head start.
  23. Couldn't that be said about every aging future HOF pitcher, and for that matter player in general? I really don't think this says anything about the Cubs coaching staff. Nobody on that staff has won 300 games at the ML level. I would hope that every young pitcher on the Cubs team this year (and the last two as well for that matter) tried to get advice out of Maddux at some point.
  24. Great picture of ARod on ESPN.com right now: http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h184/soccer10k/AROD.jpg
