  1. True, but a team dosent have a chance to go to the playoffs every year. This is probably the Twins year to win the world series. I think their pitching is solid(specially in the bullpen). Their lineup produces enough runs to win a game every day. Twins are my favorites to win the World Series if they make it to the playoffs. Why is this the Twins's year as opposed to say, next year or the year after it? Their core isn't getting broken up, and you could say they'd be adding to it with Garza and a full season of Liriano. Mauer, Morneau, Santana, Liriano, Cuddyer, Garza, Nathan, Neshek, Punto, Bartlett, none of those guys are going anywhere. Granted, they have had a couple guys play over their head(Tyner, Bartlett, some of the bullpen), but that's not a significant difference that it's worth jeopardizing a talent like Liriano to make a run this year. Bingo. Well stated.
  2. Z isn't going to win the Cy Young this year. Webb: 15-6, 3.00 ERA, 1.16 WHIP Carp: 14-6, 2.84 ERA, 1.04 WHIP Z: 14-6, 3.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP Both Webb and Carp are more deserving than Z is.
  3. That was a very entertaining game. Man U had way more shots (17-6) but only 2 more shots on goal (6-4) than Celtic. Even with that Celtic still had a very good shot to win that game. If the referee makes the correct call and doesn't award Man U a penalty kick it would be 2-2. Celtic also had a breakdown on one of Man U's goals and basically gave the ball away. Based on this performance I would have to give Celtic the edge on advancing out of this group behind Man U.
  4. The Cubs don't have right to be picky. They have to gamble. It's much better than their longstanding strategy of sticking with mediocrity. But what happens if we sign Nomar and he misses most of 2007? Then are you going to criticize the Cubs for stupidly spending money on a player that is perennially injured?
  5. South Carolina starting quarterback Blake Mitchell has been suspended indefinitely as per ESPN.com
  6. I predict the Tigers will win the game. Clever. ;) Should be a great game. I like Auburn in a squeaker. Thank you. :D And I too think Auburn will pull out a close victory.
  7. Man U strikes just 1 minute into the second half. Saha's attempt at a hat trick was denied but the goalie gave up a rebound and Solskjaer was in the right spot and put it in. 3-2 Man U.
  8. That is most definately great news.
  9. WOW. After Saha gives Man U a 2-1 lead, Nakamura answers just 3 minutes later on a great free kick. Van der Sar didn't even move as Nakamura curled it right over the wall. GREAT free kick.
  10. Bad call against the Celtic goalkeeper gives him a red card an a penalty kick for Man U. Saha converts and it's 1-1.
  11. Celtic strikes first at Old Trafford, 1-0.
  12. Man U-Celtic is on right now.
  13. Wait, wait, wait. Back up the train. You're telling me that if you get on base more, you are likely to score more often? Somebody take me to the hospital because you BigbadB just blew my mind. :D
  14. They must have more speed and clog the bases less. They can really catch the ball. And they hustle ALL the time.
  15. This Zambrano running talk made me think about one thing: Zambrano's triple against St. Louis last year. They still have a highlight of the triple on mlb.com. Just click on 'Top Plays' and click on 'Zambrano RBI triple'.
  16. I predict the Tigers will win the game.
  17. In his first start back against the Oakland A's he threw a pitch to Bobby Kielty in the third inning and immediately reacted in a negative way in regards to his arm. The Twins manager and trainer immediately ran out to check on him and Liriano had to be removed. Not good for the Twins.
  18. Somebody else said this in another thread so while this isn't an original thought, it's worth repeating. Hendry's performance as a GM should give people enough ammunition to use against him without bringing his weight into question. Like bittner77 said, Hendry's weight doesn't have any affect on him doing his job as a GM. And please, spare me the "he goes to eat too often and that distracts him from making competant moves" joke. I'm not a Hendry fan either, but rip his performance and not his physique.
  19. OH. MY. LORD. I just caught the highlights on SportsCenter. 6 errors? Wow. Anyone know the record for most errors in a game by one team? Also, Mateo running home was HILARIOUS.
  20. I think that was just the last straw of many. It would be quite ironic if the Raiders traded away a player because of discipline problems. That seems backwards; usually problem players come to the Raiders, not leave them. That's a very good point.
  21. 1907 thru 2005 World Series team W L pct PA W L Chicago Cubs 7710 7689 0.501 13 2 7 I know it says thru 2005 but I just wanted to make sure it was. Becuase if you factored in the Cubs record from 2006, the Cubs record from 1907-today would be 7767-7776 thus giving them a losing record.
  22. Gerrard almost had the game winner there but was denied by the post.
  23. Oh man did that keeper take a fall. Wow.
  24. I'll predict a 2-1 Liverpool final score.
