Rangers trying to blow it again. They're lucky the ball stayed close on the previous pitch because it was close to being 2nd and 3rd. If it was, the game would be tied.

He’s basically right on line with Gallo this year. 182/327/429 for Schwarber and 180/304/447 for Gallo, though Gallo does strike out much more frequently.

I’d have to see a better angle but Morel going so far off third might have been bad too. It looked like Nico might have had a chance to make it to 2nd but Perez ran at Morel when he was too far off the bad.

Still not worried about Arizona. Before this little stretch they were 16-34 since the middle of June. Three of their five wins were against SD and I don't mind keeping the Padres at more of a distance. I"m fine with Arizona going 2-2 or 3-1 this series. Their next four series are Texas, Cincy, LAD, Balt so hopefully they get pegged back there like the Giants currently are doing against better competition.

Yeah, that would have been an especially fun one to listen to. I mean, I can imagine the 45 seconds of silence after a dejected “and this ballgame is ova” as the ball clears the fence. But it’s not the same as actually hearing it.

I've been mostly paying attention all year and I have no recollection of him pitching a single inning for the 2023 Cubs. Then I find out he pitched 21 innings in 15 games.

That was my instinct but I didn’t know for sure. My one hold up was if a ball hits directly on top of a wall and bounces over, it’s a home run but if it counted back into play it’s a live ball. Of course that’s diirecty on the barrier between HR and in play whereas this play was clearly on the “in play” side of the home run line. And yeah, usually the inside the park homers are at least close at the plate unless a guy gets hurt and can’t chase the ball.

If that had hit the wall where it did but ricocheted over the wall and out of play rather than bouncing along the wall and down to the ground, is it a ground rule double or a HR?

It sucks that he's gone but it was the right thing to do when he wouldn't sign a new contract. I hope he returns in 3 years to break the EPL goalscoring record. I'm glad they got a shitload of money for him but wish the deal could have been done more than 2 days before the new season started.

The Giants could be in some trouble in about 2 weeks. After this Texas series, they go Tampa, Atlanta, Philly, Atlanta. Even after that it's Cincy, San Diego, Cubs. If things go bad, they could be a couple games out of the WC by the end of August. Of course, outside of the Cubs, none of the other teams chasing them appear all that interested in winning baseball games right now.

Win the division and you avoid Atlanta in the NLDS if you win the WC round. Of course LA is hot and is only 4.5 back of Atlanta so that might not matter anyway.

I can't speak for the baserunning but the 2016 Cubs were an incredibly good defensive team that also ground pitchers down with very good PA's. They were 2nd in OBP despite being 14th in BA and were 13th in HRs. They were also 4th in pitches seen per PA. The Fowler-Rizzo-KB-Zobrist combo was brutal for pitchers. They did lead the league in walks but there's nothing wrong with not making an out. -
