  1. Bat it down you say? Yes, I know batting it down is still the smart call 99 times out of 100 and definitely better than trying to catch the ball.
  2. Hey, it's something we can agree with Philly on! horsefeathers the Mets!
  3. Astros are a bad example. Made the playoffs in 2015, winning the WC game before losing in the ALDS, missed in 2016 and won the title in 2017.
  4. Don't worry guys, the 12 team playoffs won't last much longer. Soon enough, MLB is going to add 2 more teams, go to 8 divisions of 4 teams and have a 16 team playoff.
  5. The bye is still clearly better. Having the bye didn’t bother the Astros or Yankees last year. Houston was fine this year. Baseball playoffs are still a crapshoot and having a 100% chance of making the Division Series is better than a roughly 50-50 chance.
  6. It’s a little funny that Baltimore didn’t get swept all year, and hasn’t been swept since May 2022, but just got swept out of the playoffs.
  7. They were likely going to go as their SP went. Kershaw was really good this year but it's 50-50 on what he's going to do in the playoffs. After that, well...
  8. Yeah, had they just scrapped the South America portion, this wouldn’t be a big deal at all.
  9. Didn’t think about this until I read it today, but with the ridiculousness of the 2030 World Cup being hosted in 3 continents, that means 2034 can only be hosted in North America or Asia. North America obviously has 2026 so they’re probably out. That leaves Asia. I’m sure it was a pure coincidence but mere hours after the 2030 announcement, Saudi Arabia announced their solo bid for the 2034 World Cup and FIFA proceeded to give the other Asian countries until the end of October to submit their bids.
  10. I assume they’ll take away one or two of the qualification spots. So instead of 6 of 7, it will be 4 of 7. Just another example for why the 48 team Cup is stupid.
  11. Are you just making things up at this point? Bogaerts played 146 games at SS this year. He hasn’t played 3B since 2014.
  12. Not at all. You’re either comparing a corner OFer to a bunch of SS or you’re comparing a 25 year old to a 32 year old at 1B. Neither of which is relevant at all.
  13. Those 30 year olds were shortstops not corner outfielders like Soto is. And if you want to include Judge, he was coming off a 62 HR, 10 WAR season which, and I don’t know if you’re aware, but Freeman hasn’t done either of. Your comparison is invalid.
  14. My picks not looking good so far. I had TB, Tor, Phi, Mil Balt, Tor, Alt, LAD Balt, Atl Balt I will say, the playoffs are much more likeable this year with no Cards, Yankees and Mets. The AL in particular the only team I don't want to win is Houston and the other 5 either have never won the title or have gone at least 30 years since winning.
  15. The Twins ... won a playoff game? \
  16. Milwaukee absolutely with their SP I could see them making a run. Just last year the 87 win Phillies beat the 101 win Braves and the 89 win Padres beat the 111 win Dodgers.
  17. I can think of one other poster who does.
  18. The guy that blew the game for Pittsburgh had a 7.5 ERA in 24 innings coming into today. I think the Pirates bet on the Marlins making the playoffs.
  19. 3-0 Pirates and new pitcher comes in with none on and one out. Marlins go single, single, walk, double, single and it’s 3-3.
  20. After that Giants sweep, we were 4 times more likely to win the Central (33.3%) as we were to miss the playoffs (7.6%). If you use the season-to-date stats on Fangraphs, it's over 8x as likely (42.6% for the division vs. 4.9% to miss the playoffs).
  21. Seems pretty crazy that they didn't move the start time up an hour or two knowing some massive rain storm was coming. I know that's happened in the past, pretty sure with a Cubs game or two.
