    Meanwhile, out in the best conference in the nation, Arizona just went on a 10-2 run to start the second half to cut Oregon's lead to 2. EDIT: BTW Raisin, since I didn't watch the game, I assume Collison's absence was the cause of UCLA's loss today?

    I officially hate both IU and UI. I don't know why you guys (IU and UI fans) even argue against each other over these two teams because you're never going to agree on anything. It's just one insult after another.

    Oklahoma's recent football history (last 5-7 years) is much better than Notre Dame's. However, let's not forget that Oklahoma sucked throughout much of the 1990's and has only regained prominence over the last several years. Notre Dame has accomplished more in its history than Oklahoma, and its been consistently better over the last 15-30 years. You'll get no arguments from me there. Of course, what you wrote has nothing to do with what I wrote. But good job anyway. Well, you wrote that Notre Dame "never accomplish(es) anything" and that's what he was addressing.

    Just an awful game. I'm embarassed that I actually was able to see this game tonight. Once again, we need something much more than jump shooters. When they go cold, they go ice cold. It wasn't just the jump shooters. The Bulls missed numerous layups and putbacks tonight. They didn't play very well at all and it was, at times, an ugly game to watch. Gordon was just horrible tonight. There is no reason to lose a game in which you attempt 30 more shots than the other team and get 21 offensive rebounds.

    I'd like to say that I completely approve of all of that. It might be funny(ish), but I'd like to see the school paper make better decisions than this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/snoodmonger1/KSCS11002080415-1.jpg While you can't really control what the crowd is going to chant during the game, and considering some of them aren't sober, I have to say that I think the newspaper was out of line in printing what they did. It would be one thing for one person to write a column on the subject and use that terminology but for the paper to print a full page spread like that is taking it a too far.

    Not that much better actually. Giants are only averaging 15yds per game more than the Bears. 4.7 YPA, good enough for top 6 in the league, compared to 3.8 YPA, which is bottom 3rd of the league. It's a significant difference. Bottom line is that Grossman is getting extra criticism for losing a game that Eli couldn't even sniff. He'd have been better off if the Bears missed the playoffs. Not only was the NFC East a FAR tougher division than the North was this year, but Rex also had the advantage of having one of the best defenses in the league on his team (5th in ypg, 3rd in scoring defense) while Eli had to deal with one of the worst (25th and 24th in the same categories). Eli had to do much more for the Giants to win and had a much smaller room for error than Rex did.

    I just found a highlight video from SportsCenter and not only did they say it was D. Manning who blew the coverage but on one of the highlights it shows #46 (Chris Harris) running close to the endzone along with Charles Tillman. The free safety bit so hard there is no way he could be anywhere near the endzone when Wayne scored. Tillman was the CB, Manning was the safety that bit (I'm assuming FS) and Harris was the other safety. In short, D. Manning blew the coverage.

    I'm pretty sure it was Chris Harris. I remember him talking to peanut after that play. Does anybody have a video of the play? I've looked on youtube and couldn't find anything.

    I guess Arizona gets to stay in the AP poll no matter what-I was hoping IU would stay in even with their loss to Iowa because of the huge Wisconsin win, but I guess not. The voters basically kept Indiana at the same spot in both polls. In the AP poll, Indiana went from 141 points and #26 to 117 and #27. In the Coaches Poll they went from 62 points and t-#25 to 74 and #24. And Arizona actually did drop out in the Coaches poll.

    New AP and Coaches Polls. Top 5 in both is Florida, UCLA, Ohio State, Wisconsin, North Carolina. Also, the Pac-10 has 6 teams in this weeks AP poll (#2 UCLA, #13 Oregon, #14 Washington State, #19 USC, #24 Arizona, #25 Stanford).

    Not that it necessarily matters in this case, but the 2003 Cubs were supposed to be a year away from seriously contending as well. Just figured I would point that out.

    he seemed to be in position, alot better then before What happened with the early wide open TD? I forget who was in coverage. Harris (I believe) was the safety who tried to jump the route of the receiver going short over the middle and Manning threw it long to Wayne. Manning may have been the corner on the play but I think the mistake was the safety's.

    Here is the inevitable Jay Mariotti Rex bashing article. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I figured he would essentially try to run Rex out of town and say that the Bears need to draft a QB in the upcoming draft (though he did say Griese should be given the opportunity to win the starting job next year).

    First, the second interception (the one Bob Sanders picked off) came with about 10 minutes left in the game. While it was unlikely that the Bears were going to come back and win the game, fact is the game wasn't over yet. Ten minutes is more than enough time to get two touchdowns. I'm not saying it's likely considering how the Bears offense was playing, but it's possible. Second, you can't just dismiss his second pick as not being a bad throw because you think it came late in the game and was just trying to make something happen. A good throw on that could have been a touchdown, or at least very good field position (Sanders picked it at the Indy 21), and all of a sudden the Bears are only down five with over half the fourth quarter still to play. That was a horrendous throw. There was also the throw, that somebody else mentioned, where Grossman scrambled to his left and tried to throw it into double coverage and it was almost picked off. Don't get me wrong, I happen to agree with your overall assessment of Grossman. He wasn't good yesterday, but he wasn't bad either and could have played much, MUCH worse and he wasn't the only reason the Bears lost the game.

    I'd rather go with Stanton. I think Smith will be badly exposed in the NFL. Yeah, I don't think Smith is going to have much of a career as a QB in the NFL. The Florida game really exposed his weaknesses.

    Yup, best to judge a quarterback after his first full season of play. Unfortunately, many of Rex's flaws are not ones that are easily corrected, IMO. He has little poise under pressure, throws off his back foot too much, has poor pocket awareness, and seems to have an obstinate attitude regarding his flaws. Personally, I have always been very patient when it comes to developing players, like Corey Patterson, for example. But I see little in Rex Grossman that inspires confidence that he will develop into anything other than a league average QB, at best. And given his set of flaws, I think that would take 2-3 years to achieve. The Bears' overall talent level puts them in a position to win again next year, and perhaps the next, but the window will not be open forever. If I am Angelo, I move to add some stability to the offense. And the problem is if Rex isn't the answer, Griese isn't either, and Orton could easily be out of the league by next year. Do the Bears make a trade for someone like Byron Leftwich, which I don't see. Is a back-up like Schaub in Atlanta a better option then Grossman? Or do you go with a rookie straight out of the draft? You can have Aaron Brooks. I wouldn't mind one bit.
