  1. Nah, man, the kid can throw a Complete game, 1 hit shut out of the Cubs, RIGHT NOW, man. That's completely ridiculous. You don't know if he's left-handed or not yet. Does it matter? 8)
  2. Look, I am as about annoyed as anyone about Baker trying to ride Z for some extra meaningless wins to pack his resume, but I was more upset with Baker for allowing Marmol to throw over 100 pitches in 5 innings, after he had walk 8 batters. That was SOOOO unnecessary Baker simply does NOT know how to run a pitching staff, and every Cub fan in Chicago, and around the country should be bitter at Baker, for possibly ruining two young pitchers, for the benefit of trying to pad his reume.
  3. First: After the past couple of yrs, the Cub players haven't earned the right for their names to be put back on the jersey. I like the nameless jersey, because you can't necessarily call one player out, you have to call out the whole team. Leave the names off the jersey. And take the pinstripes off. Second: I absolutely love the blue jersey.

  5. You're assuming that Marmol will always have control problems. But considering the fact that Marmol is still relatively new to pitching, I can see him developing better command and feel for pitching each yr. So, yes, I do believe Marmol will become an excellent closer in a few yrs.
  6. I think he would be worth a look. But seeing as Hendry is focus on Cedeno being the 2b next yr (with Fontenot and The Riot right behind him), I don't see Hendry going after Cantu. And the ONLY way I see him going after Cantu, it would be as a backup plan for losing ARam.
  7. Come one dude, the Cubs have to stuff his resume with meaningless wins, so he can fool another team into giving him BIG money, dude,
  8. I thought the #2 spot is where you put your inferior middle infiedler who can't hit, at.
  9. Merker was going to retire after the season, anyways, this injury just truly confirms it.
  10. I'd be fine with Wuertz as a closer. I just think that Marmol could be a dominate type closer. I see your point about keeping him as a starter and I would like to see this if Dempster is traded or hurt. First: I wouldn't worry about Marmol lack of control, FOR NOW. Once he gets comfortable in the majors, and learn to trust his stuff, and listen to the catcher, he will be fine, control wise. Second: I do believe Marmol long-term role will be closer, and I like to see him in that role by no later then 2008.
  11. And throws 452 pitches in doing so, thereby rendering him armless for the rest of his natural life. But dude, the dude ain't tired, dude. He's strong, dude.
  12. Of course it does. Not only did LA get Maddux but they also dumped salary. Jeez our GM is TERRIBLE. WHy in the world would we want Izturis here? He brings nothing to the table as far as I'm concerned. I disagree. Hendry has been less terrible then more recent GMs in the franchise history, but has made his fair shares of mistakes. Now the Izturis/Maddux deal, that is Karma coming back and biting Hendry in the butt. We won the Hundley for Karros/Grudz deal, the Dodgers win the Maddux/Izzy deal. Eye for an eye. Who cares about GM franchise history? The simple fact is Hendry sucks right now. He's terrrible. First: I was being abit tongue in cheek, and if it didn't come through, then I apologize. Second: Sucks is too strong of a word.....
  13. Which is why, I call Dusty Baker, "The Paris Hilton of baseball managing." And right now, I would take Lassie as manager of the Cubs over a guy, who doesn't beileve in "OBP" is a vital stat.

  15. Hey, we got to "pad the resume of Baker" so he looks good for his new employer, you know.....The Newark Bears..
  16. Agreed. If he was healthy (and his stuff was returned), and perhaps the Cubs were closer to .500, then yeah, bring Miller up. But since at least memory, his stuff was still mediocrelly average, then let him stay in the minors and let him go in the offseason.
  17. Partially correct. Pronk has what....6 grand slams this yr, and Beltran has I believe 3 grannies this yr. So, Pronk is the KING of the Grand Slams, and Beltran is more of the PRINCE of the grand slams... :D
  18. For some stragne reason, I have been coveted a Coors Lite ALL DAY? :-k 8)
  19. And yet, the sad thing is...Dusty doesn't see where he has done anything wrong. I FULLY believe that the Prior of 2003-05, WILL in time return. I know I am being annoying oppesmistic, but I really believe Prior will eventually return to form.
  20. Why do the Cubs still have the Paris Hilton of managers still managing their team? Oh, that's right, that's because they have the Lindsay Lohan of GMing still calling the shots.
  21. If Pierre prices him outside the Cubs range---which is possible---I would rather bring up a kid like Sam Fuld or Chris Walker to play CF, instead of going after some crappy veteran, just because they are there, and Baker or Hendry wants them. At worst, stick Pagan in CF. Edit: The ONLY position I would rather see Jones move to is....LF. I don't see Jones being all that more productive in CF then Pierre.
  22. He sat one of his best hitters vs. LHP(Murton). Yeah...he pulled the right levers... I thought that was Nefti Perez's job?
  23. let's see...he is hitting 88 on the gun, he used to 93-94 for the whole game. this has been happening for a while. his pitch counts are astronomical because he has no command...that's been going on since last june. i haven't done the research yet but i know his era is over 5.00 since last june...this is a large sample size and he shows absolutely no signs of anything changing! much like i said with wood last offfseason..we need to find someone to take him at cost for anything...a dozen balls.and indy player...assistant trainer..anything- cut our losses and use the 5-6 mil to add to the savings from wood/maddux and sign at least 2 starters! i like prior..i hope he does great BUT if we want to win next year we can not sit back and hope he becomes prior again. if we wait to find out if he won't , no one will ever take him unless we pay his salary, which does us no good. Again, I think it is more CONFIDENCE/MENTAL, then physical. I know his stuff is "average"" right now, but if he can stay healthy the rest of the season, make another 5 to 8 starts (if he has that manyleft this yr) get the confidence he can stay healthy, I fully believe that a healthy offseason, working with say Tom House, and Prior will be back to his old self in 2007. You maybe ready to give up on Prior, but I'm not, and I sure the Cubs aren't either.
