  1. But dude, I got to stick with the horses that got me here, dude. Z is my horse, and I listen to my horse, dude. This is the same manager who has an unnatural disdain for walks, and that if you know how to walk, he will beat it out of you (coughsmurtoncoughs). So is it any surprise that the Cubs manager wouldn't know that pitching and pitching injuries have a connection? But hey, Baker should be gone after the year, and we better HOPE we get a manager who knows the game of baseball, instead of trying to be the BFF with every player he manages.
  2. Remember the garbage that Hendry was spewing when he was trying to pimp out Jacques Jones "defensive abilities" at the time of the press conference to announce his signing? JJ hasn't exactly been Todd Hundley at there, but he isn't as good defensively as Hendry claim. It's a very similar to how the Cubs and the Tribune have been pimping Izturis "defensive abilities" since the trade. The difference between the two....at least JJ has a resemblance of a bat. So if the Cubs are planning to build around pitching and defense in 2007, should they perhaps.........try to get some pitchers and players who can defense to make it work?
  3. Juan Pierre is better than Chris Duffy. I don't think the guy in right field is tearing it up either. I would also lean towards DLEE over there first baseman. Who is THEIR first baseman?
  4. I could see that, as well as the Cubs going after guys like Kip Wells, Tony Armas Jr, etc. etc. Something tells me...Jason Schmidt/Barry caliber pitcers WON'T even get a phone call from Hendry. Call it a hunch. Heck, I could see Hendry borrowing Benny the Bulls---provided he's out on bond---and throwing a parade to get guys like Jeff Suppan to sign in Chicago..
  5. When I saw the thread title, I thought we were going to talk about Ricky Bobby's son. :x 8) Gosh darn to Texas. :-s And go Oakland?
  6. A Tribune writer wrote an article about a disgraced Sun Times writer, an yet...your bring in a Daily Herald writer into the conversation? Ain't that a kick.
  7. Why would we want to be jerks to the Red Sox? I can think of alot of teams I wouldn't mind screwing, but Boston isn't one of them. Especially not if we're risking ending up with Javy freakin Lopez. Are you kidding? Red Sox fans are worse than Yankee fans since 2004. Actually, they were pretty annoying before 2004, also. They had what I call "The Fake Curse." Red Sox fans, WANT everybody to feel their plight against the Yankees. Now I dislike, of the Yankees and their fans, but more recently, that disdain has become more consistant with Boston.
  8. or #36. Brad Penny wears #31. I wonder if Brad Penny wouldn't give up the #31 or if Maddux refused it because he is the "new guy". I'm guessing the latter. Greg doesn't seem like the type to ask for a number from someone that has it.... IMO Penny should have had a Maddux jersey with 31 waiting for him in the clubhouse when he got there. But wouldn't that cost Brad alot of PENNIES to have it done? 8)
  9. I'm willing to bet Hendry offers a "Dempster/Williamson" type deal to KW. I would love to see KW in short-relief/closer in 2007. KW knows at best, he might get $5 mill for a yr, but I doubt it. With his history, he will have to "settle" for about 2 mill at best. I really want to see KW rejuvenate his career.
  10. In theory I appauded the move for Pierre, because I was tired of the station-to-station type ball the Cubs org had implored for years. So, in theory Juan Pierre was going to help the Cubs. Unfortunately, his impact has been minimum, to say the least. And what he is making, his impact needed to be bigger and it wasn't. So unless Pierre settles for a deal in the 3-4 mill for atmost 2 years, I would rather see the Cubs move on, and see if they could acquire a guy like Freel.
  11. And 10-3 against the Cards, the ONLY opponent the Cubs seems to want to play this year. Maybe Dusty should had focus a little less on trying to beat the Cards, and a little more time on playing actually good baseball, then the Cubs wouldn't be battling the Pirates and the Royals for the worst record. Give that man the Worst Manager of the Year award.
  12. The Cubs are going to make HISTORY this yr: wikipedia.com Think about that...Philadelphia organization went from 1883-1979 without winning a TITLE. Then in 1980....BOOM, World Series titles, after 97 years. The Cubs last won the title in 1908. This is 2006. After the year, the Cubs would have gone 98 years without a title, and they will set the record for the longest drought in sports history. Phildelphia was at 97 years without a title. Chicago NL will be at 98 and counting. Doesn't that give you SUCH a confidence that this org knows what the heck they are doing? (Did you know theme plays)
  13. Well, when you put it that way.... They've refunded in the past, even if you left early. I know the Yankees have, on occasion, done the same thing, even to people who never even tried to go to the game but had unused tickets. If they would simply release both Nefti Perez and Glendon Rusch, I wouldn't care if they don't refund the money, as long as they get rid of the Cubs two Eddie Robinson's.
  14. They aren't giving refunds to people who left early? Why should they? They are allowed to scalp their own tickets, so why would they refund honest people money?
  15. I don't know if Lee is going to get more then 4 and 48. He MAY have to wait till January or so and/or wait to see what guys like Sheffield and Soriano will do as free agents. Not to mention they'll prolly be some decent OF talent COULD (not saying will, but could) be available, like Andru Jones, Pat Burrell, Jermaine Dye, etc. So, I don't know if Carlos Lee is going to get what he THINKS he's worth. My guess is Lee is going to settle for something a little more then the 4 and 48, perhaps 4 and 52-55 mill.
  16. With who; Webb or Thom?
  17. Yes, so even though their OBPs weren't good, they still had a significantly better IsoD (more patience) than Izturis at age 26. Exactly. Both had more patience than Izturis at this age, which allowed them to progress as hitters. If Izturis doesn't learn how to take a walk, he will NEVER, I repeat, NEVER, be a consistently good player. Which is why...after the season....have Cesar and Ronny go visit Tony Gwynn and see if they can pick up a few tricks to hitting, such as....putting the wooden piece instrument on the white baseball, for instance. Or that just because the pitcher throws say ball, doesn't mean you have to swing. But none of the younger players on the Cubs are going to improve, unless they bring in coaches that DEMANDS plate zone judgment, something that Baker has a disdain for.
  18. So would I. Knowing that....what would it take to get Elijah to the Cubs org?
  19. Pass whatever you were during that post, over here.
  20. Here would be my lineup in 2007 Lineup: CF: Pierre 2B: Durham (I think he would be perfect in the #2 slot) 1B: Lee RF: Sheffield 3B: ARam LF: Jones/Murton LF C: Barrett C SS: Izturis Rotation Zambrano Schimdt Prior Marshall Guzman LR: Marmol/Rusch (BIG FATTY is here in 2007,, unofrtunately) *Sheffield MIGHT be willing to switch to 1B this yr, but he won't be happy about it. I think he would leave NY to return to RF. *Ray Durham isn't the player he was even 5 yrs ago, but he doesn't have to be. Durham is a career .280/.350/.440 and would slot in very NICELY between Pierre and Lee. This would allow the Cubs to keep one less black hole out of the starting lineup, but Cedeno/Perez would be crappy bench.
  21. Like Vance, I could see the Cubs going after Vicente Padilla. But I could see the Cubs going after a guy like Ton Armas, or a Miguel Batista, or even (gulp) Jeff Suppan.
  22. I see SOME similarilites, but I don't think they are similar pitchers. Rich throws a little bit harder, and Sean has more pitchers in his arsenal, and they are more polished. With that said, it would ONLY against them, if they are put back-to-back in the rotation. If Hill and Marshall are separate by say....Guzman or Marmol, then I don't see how it would work against either.
  23. Why are people wasting their time and breathe on something they knew in their minds would happen. So why are people even surprise?
  24. Agreed. There is a REASON why Sarge Jr is playing for his 7th or 8th team in his ML career. Not bad of a 4th OF option or a backup plan, but I wouldn't make GMJ a target, per se.
