  1. The Cubs start a pivotal three game series against the Giants today. If the Cubs continue to play inspire baseball, then this should be a great sweep for the Giants. We need Dusty at his best for it to work. Come on Dusty, make these strange, and unlogical hunches from the gut backfire. We need every loss we can get,
  2. 1: Nevin is more valuable to a contending team, then to the Cubs. 2: Wiith Lee back, and Mabry as back, not to mention Pagan/Pierre/Murton/Jones in the OF, Nevin had no place on this team. 3: Nevin would not re-sign with the Cubs to bench a bench player. 4: There are rumors that he is a real-life version of Jack Parkman. (Major League 2 bad guy) I say that because there are rumors that he has an ego that doesn't sit well in the clubhouse. 5: Trading Nevin opens up a spot for a player who might have value to the Cubs..
  3. :-s Do we want to know why you think that?
  4. Angel Hernandez, Bruce Froeming, Eric Gregg, Timmons, CB Bucknor, the fact that I know these umpires names, is a disturbing trend for baseball. Umpires need to be unknown neutral parties in games, but when you know certain umpire names, then that is not a good sign. Some of these umpires think they are part of the game. And to a certain degree, but these umpires need to know that fans do not come to the game, to see how impressive of a strike call they have, they come to see the ballplayers. These umpires need to sit-down, shut-up up, and grow thicker skin. Not everything a player does, shows them up.
  5. Actually there are some rumors that are pointing to the Rangers trading Texieria before his contract is up. And considering who Tex's agent is....that maybe one rumor that may eventually become reality. So my guess is, Texas would use Tex as bait to get some pitching.
  6. It looks to me, that they are conceding the fact that they won't be able to re-sign Lee. And it is also a sign, that if Texas is trading for his replacement now, just imagine how much $$$ Lee is going to ask for in Free Agency.
  7. Baker WILL be here to the end of the season. The 2006 Cubs are a sinking team, and their is no way Hendry would release him from his contract or fired him before the season is over. If Hendry did that, he would be in effect giving Baker a life-preserver. Baker is going down with the ship, like a Captain should. Besides....who would want to manage the Cubs with less then 30 games left, and essentially be a lame-duck interim manager, ala Bruce Kimm?
  8. Paging New York Knicks, paging New York Knicks... That's abit overdramatic, ain't it, Jeff? There pretty bad, but the worse...nah, I disagree.
  9. Kottaras for David Wells? Not sure I'd do that if I were San Diego. I wouldn't either. Kottaras is way too much to pay for David Wells.
  10. As much as I am a passenger on the Negative train, but I do not think ARam will leave. But let's say he does.....before the Cubs blow it 'all up', they would have to see if they can find a bat or two to replace ARam. If they Cubs can't find said bats to replace ARam, then yeah, bring up Moore for 3rd, and go with a flat-out youth movement. With Z I would talk serious with teams WITH deep farm system. No NYs, or Boston, only teams that have a deep pool of talent, ie Angels and the Dodgers. Barrett, I would talk to Toronto, and perhaps the Padres. So on, and so on. But knowing that Hendry's job will be on the line starting in 07, there is no way he allows ARam to leave Chicago.
  11. No, but they should be placed in a appropiate league for their talents. With that said, I heard the Northern League has a spot for them.
  12. Maybe the Cubs could "Steal" Loney away from the Dodgers. I mean....if the Padres are considering Kotteras for Wells, (I know Wells is a better pitcher, then Maybring nothing, but still) maybe the Dodgers are just as desparate.
  13. Something tells me the Cubs are going to struggle to win 60 games.
  14. Sorry. He's buying the Buccos. Well, that's kind of hard to do, when the franchise isn't available. My guess is....Cuban won't be owning a baseball team anytime soon. And my problem isn't with the Tribune, they have open up their wallets. My problem is the management team of Hendry (bad business decision, in regardless to how the money is spent) and Baker (his reckless usage of his pitchers) as the real culprits to the club.
  15. But considering the Cubs don't like the idea of "thinking outside the box", I doubt we'll see Wuertz as a closer. But it wouldn't surprise me, if a team like TB or Kansas City who rely on cheap labor, come a calling in the off-season. (sarcasm coming) and maybe, just maybe, the Cubs find that speedy guy with no tools, who can be a leadoff guy.
  16. Angel Guzman, Rich Hill, Carlos Marmol, Sean Marshall, Sean Gallagher, Donald Veal, Mark Pawelek, all better be able to step in and contribute majorly, and cheaply for a good 4 yrs, should the Cubs sign Z to an Oswalt type contract.
  17. That is laughable. His contract, plus the fact he pretty much stunk this yr equals, UNTRADEABLE. Jim COULDN'T give Dempster away. With that said...it's amazing how far down the ladder this organization fell after 2003. Going from 5 outs from the WS, to LOSING to the Pirates in extra innings........that is pathethic. If MLB was run like futbol, the Chicago Cubs would be in Single A, right now. Whatever promise the Cubs had after 2003, was completely and utterly destroyed by Hendry mismanagement, and Baker cruelty towards young players and pitchers. And with little help in terms of immediate impact help, this teams future, is worse then the Pirates.
  18. We'd still get compensation picks if he leaves right? I would think that is a better "gain" to the organization then whatever teams would be offering for a one month rental. Only if the Cubs offer arbitration.
  19. WTG, Tampa Bay, teach the kid maturity by promoting him, after showing he can't handle the pressure of professional baseball. I know, Delmon is an incredible talent, but something tells me, with his attitude, he won't ever reach his potential.
  20. Agreed. Ever since "The Captain" and their heart-n-soul went down for injury (Jason Varitek) they are a completely different team. BoSox are done.
  21. Dustiny awaits for no man. Come on Cubs...continue to play no-so-well, you ne-er do wells. Now, the Cubs are doing the reverse Rachel Phelps.
  22. I just don't see any major free agents coming to Chicago, unless Hendry flies off the rocker, and gives said player a Mike Hamptonesque "IDIOT" contract. And quite frankly, there isn't a player in the free agent market that is worth it. I rather see, if the Cubs can improve the offense, either through trade, or through in-house talent.
  23. Under your scenerion Hendry would HAVE to sign both Soriano and Lee and one of the big name free agent pitchers. And seeing as I have no confidence in Hendry ability to judge the free agency market, I seriously doubt the Cubs will be any better next yr, and in fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they are WORSE next yr.
  24. Simply wow. This team is losing to the one team that is worse then they are in the NL. Just wow. The imcompetence of the organization knows no bounds. As of right now, it would take a FRIGGIN' miracle for the Cubs to ever be consider a revelent MLB team, cause right now...I wouldn't even call them a AAA team.
  25. Buck Coats serves no purpose on this team. There's no reason to avoid sending him back down. Likewise, the Mabry/Nevin combo could be traded. First: This is Chicago, and what happens when it gets cold, they could always turn to Buck Coats to keep them warm. (raises shield for incoming raspberries) Second: Goony, do you ACTUALLY think Mabry and/or Nevin will be dealt?
