  1. All in all, anothe half season, to being a September call up, isn't the worst thing to happen to Pie. Don't want to rush him.
  2. I don't matter neither KC or TB are going to pop for Prcie, anyways. So possibly having the 3rd pick, is going to be as good as having the #1 pick.
  3. No, no, no, no, no, no. Just because Dunn is a Three True Outcomes hitter doesn't mean he needs to change. He is an extremely valuable POWER SOURCE of a lineup., and most likely any effort to try and change him will diminish that value. Correction. Dunn is a MASHER, not a hitter. Calling Dunn a hitter is a disservice to guys who are dedicated to the craft of hitting, like Pujols/Mauer, who are legitimate hitters. Again, Dunn is a valuable POWER SOURCE, not a hitter. So, Dunn is better suited to being a DH, then continue this masquerade as a "outfielder." Cecil Fielder is more graceful in the OF then Adam Dunn. True, but you also don't want to hold your breathe every time the ball goes up in the air. Dunn MOST LIKELY WON'T BE coming to Chicago, other then being a visitor. Cincy MOST LIKELY are not going to trade Dunn to Chicago, so why are people still on this horse?
  4. Smart-butt answer aside, the reason why Pie wasn't called up is because he "isn't ready". That is the easiest answer. I know the Cubs got kids like Jose Reyes, but Pie is too important to rush. The decision not to call up Pie was the RIGHT call, regardless of fans wanted to see a "top prospect" playing at the major league level. The Cubs can't afford another Patterson mistake. That, IMO, is the reason why Pie wasn't call up.
  5. The Cubs have had 2 first picks right? Dunstan and Montenez? Montanez was 3 overall. Who went 1-2 that year? That may illustrate the end to finish "ahead" of the D-Rays & Royals. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/draft/2000/Round-1-1.shtml Awww.....man......we COULD'VE had the Matt Harrington. What WERE the Cubs thinking?
  6. First: I personally see Adam Dunn going to the AL IF he is traded. A perfect trade would be Adam Dunn to Anaheim for Scot Shields/Joe Saunders/Brandon Wood (or something like that). And I most assuredly believe the Reds WILL NOT trade Dunn to a divisional rival. That fact seems to be unheard on the discussion is quite unbelievable. Second: I rather have Murton in LF, and go after a LEGIT ALL-AROUND OFer, like an AJones (if he's convince ATL ain't competing for the next few yrs), or maybe, just maybe TRY to get Miguel Cabrera. Third: Dunn, whilst he has major power that "chicks love", the fact is he is still limited offensively. It's either a HR, Walk, or strikeout. I understand a strikeout is sometimes better then putting the ball in play, but sometimes he needs to give up on trying to hit a homerun and become a more consistant hitter. If the Cubs didn't have Derrek Lee at 1st, then getting Dunn for 1st base would be an interesting idea, but Dunn in the OF....uh.......... NO THANK YOU.
  7. Whilst that is the truth, compadre, I taketh this team being this bad, if it meant a higher draft pick for the Cubs to ruin.
  8. No thank you, on Gonzo. He still has some game left in his legs, but as of right, Gonzo should be a DH next yr. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if Creepy Bonds, Alou, and Gonzo are all DH's next yr.
  9. I guess I should reserve judgement until I find out how many people are involved in this protest, but its good to see a disgruntled fan base can put together a decent protest. Every protest I've heard about for the Cubs has been given little to no support by Cubs fans. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=2587235&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab2pos2 Didn't the Detroit Lions tried something similar last football season? So, unless something happens during the "protest", I doubt it will make much news.
  10. What are you talking about? Dusty is working on his new profession....stand up comedy. IN FACT, I heard a rumor that Baker and Hendry is considering doing a 2 man stand up act. Their first routine is "suuposedly" going to be the ole "Who's on first" schtick.
  11. The difference in that OBP is ~20 extra times on base over the course of the year. Off hand I don't know the probability of a player scoring(this would of course vary with how many XBH make up the 20 extra times on base), but if half those times the player scores it's basically equivalent to a full win. I'd consider that pretty significant. EDIT: And a .333 OBP is 3.33 times out of 10 on base(not 3), and a .365 is 3.65 times out of 10(not 3.5) batting in front of lee and ramirez makes it very significant. That could be a difficult thing to do with Ramirez playing on another team. I said it before, and I will say it again, ARam will be the 2007 starting third baseman for the Cubs. Even Hendry knows after maybe ARam and Crede, it is a depressed market for third baseman. And unless Hendry thinks outside of the box, and thinks Freel or Figgins would be a solid addiition, I believe Hendry will make re-signing ARam a TOP priority. And if the Cubs could somehow land Ichiro, without giving up Pawelek/Veal/Gallagher/Pie, then I would say go for it, especially if Ichiro would sign a 2 yr extension.
  12. CubinNY; You're family would be correct. I live about 10 minutes north of Montgomery and the Biscuits---ever since they move to Montgomery---have been welcome very gracefully. The Biscuits should be in Montgomery for a LONG time. Mayor Bright (Mont. Mayor) recently lost $1000 because Gabriel Martinez hit the PASSING train----LF is like 325 ft, and the train tracks are about another 50-75 feet behind the field---going opposite field. And when he hit the train, the fans---what were left of the fans, because the game was being poured on---went crazy. So yeah, food and sporty wise, Montgomery ABSOLUTELY loves the Biscuits. Even tho Charlie Montoya (the manager of the team) is prolly the leading contender for the Rays AAA job.
  13. There you go. If it is all the same, I simulated a Dodgers/Cubs game for tonight using the current rosters (on MVP 05), and Cesar Izturis went 3-4 with 2 homeruns and 5 rbis, and the Cubs won, 14-2.
  14. No I want Jose Canseco. I want to see if he can allow a ball to go off his coconut size head, and into the bleachers of Wrigley Field. That's the only past-his-prime power hitter, I want.
  15. I know, the last two nights have been heartbreaking victories for the Cubs. It just breaks you heart, to see this team play so according to their ability, and in spit of that pull victory out of the jaws of defeat. But I am confident, that their heads will be out of their butts tonight, and they get back to the ball that have made their season. Let's go Cubs, let's get our buts kicked.
  16. And how. JD Drew would be pretty much the ONLY possible available RF that I would hope the Cubs consider the idea of moving Jones to CF. But nonetheless, Drew would be such a sight in RF, with his ability to get the ball to the cut-off in less then 10 bounces. And if Moises Alou could be relatively healthy in his three yrs in Chicago, then so could Drew. Now I hope Hendry jumps that bandwagon and go after Drew, if Coletti makes him available. ----------- Sorry vance, I am not a fan of a stopgap at 3rd, if ARam leaves. IMO, it should be ARam or Scott Moore, no stopgaps, please. And on Kent, if ARam should leave, then the Cubs should consider rebuilding, and not retooling, and I don't know if Kent would be such a hot idea. ---------------- The Dodgers will obviously want a prospect in the deal, if they have to acquire Jones in your scenerio. But depending on how much they want to pick up, would depend on the prospect they got. Obviously, the Gallagher/Veal/Pawelek/Pie would be off-limit, but would somebody like Mateo or Wuertz tempt the Dodgers? IDK, but I would investigate if I was Hendry.
  17. And this may be a bit biased, but I think Veal will be better then Hughes and perhaps even Bailey (let's face it, do we trust a pitching prospect in the Reds system?).
  18. Vance, I'm sorry but I cannot get behind the Jacque to CF theory you have going. I understand the theory, but that would be based on the Cubs actually landing either Jose Guillen/Gary Sheffield/Tort Nixon, and after those three, the pickings for RF includes the likes of Jeromy Burnity, and a LFer Moises Alou. And seeing as I don't see the Cubs landing one of thoese legit RF, I can say is moving Jones from RF to CF, all that does is move the hole in the offense over a spot. We'd still need to find a solid hitter for RF. I would rather try and sign with Mike Cameron, Dave Roberts or Kenny Lofton for CF, and unfortunately keep Jones in RF (unless some team wants him).
  19. Maybe next time, if Carrie wants to add more to the fire, then she should suggest a Izturis/Cedeno 1-2 punch. duck and hides.
  20. Don't insult little leaguers around the world, like that? The Cubs/Dodgers game were as well play as a toddler throwing a ball around in the leaving room.
  21. I never said the Cubs aren't "one of the worst run organizations in professional sports", I'm saying they are not THE worst organization, but just ONE of the worst run orgnizations. There's a difference, Jeff. They are bad, but there are in the collection of really bad organizations, and you are singling them as they are the ONLY team that is run badly.[/u] I'm not singling them out. There are many franchises that are poorly run. However, none are run as poorly as the Chicago National League Ball Club. So you are saying the Knicks and their $120 million dollar team salary (over half are generously gift to the BACKCOURT and are about 60 or so million over the tax line) ain't nearly as badly runned organization as the Cubs? Why don't you, Jeff take a peek at some of the newspapers clippings of the NY papers this past yr (or two yrs), and see if you don't change your perception that the Cubs are not the WORST run organization in sports, merely ONE of the worst run organizations in sports. In other words...the Knicks are RIGHT THERE, Jeff, as to being a poorly runned org. How hard is it to see the fact, Jeff?
  22. Are we surprise? This is the era of "Homerun or strikeout."
  23. Before the season I knew the Brewers weren't going to be the "it" team for 2006. I don't pat myself on the back too much, but this time (sounds trumphet "Fanfare"). So I'm not surprise the Brewers are abit of a disappointment. Now, the AL, Cleveland definately.
  24. I really think MLB has to start penalizing teams for lying about player injuries. The NFL does it, and it works fine. Then the Cubs would be constantly in trouble.
  25. They play again tomorrow. Hill vs. Smoltz And tomorrow will be the same result. It will end in another season sweep to another team.
