  1. Agreed. Ever since "The Captain" and their heart-n-soul went down for injury (Jason Varitek) they are a completely different team. BoSox are done.
  2. Dustiny awaits for no man. Come on Cubs...continue to play no-so-well, you ne-er do wells. Now, the Cubs are doing the reverse Rachel Phelps.
  3. I just don't see any major free agents coming to Chicago, unless Hendry flies off the rocker, and gives said player a Mike Hamptonesque "IDIOT" contract. And quite frankly, there isn't a player in the free agent market that is worth it. I rather see, if the Cubs can improve the offense, either through trade, or through in-house talent.
  4. Under your scenerion Hendry would HAVE to sign both Soriano and Lee and one of the big name free agent pitchers. And seeing as I have no confidence in Hendry ability to judge the free agency market, I seriously doubt the Cubs will be any better next yr, and in fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they are WORSE next yr.
  5. Simply wow. This team is losing to the one team that is worse then they are in the NL. Just wow. The imcompetence of the organization knows no bounds. As of right now, it would take a FRIGGIN' miracle for the Cubs to ever be consider a revelent MLB team, cause right now...I wouldn't even call them a AAA team.
  6. Buck Coats serves no purpose on this team. There's no reason to avoid sending him back down. Likewise, the Mabry/Nevin combo could be traded. First: This is Chicago, and what happens when it gets cold, they could always turn to Buck Coats to keep them warm. (raises shield for incoming raspberries) Second: Goony, do you ACTUALLY think Mabry and/or Nevin will be dealt?
  7. What are you talking about? This game has alot of implications in the race for the Fecal Cup. Every loss counts now, if the Cubs want a Top 3 pick. So sit back, and laugh, cry, and just get totally drunk watching the Cubs, and their contradiction in terms manager in action.
  8. (SHAKES HEAD) (bangs head on wall) Baker is a walking contradiction in terms. But atleast he will be some other team's walking contradiction in 2007.
  9. All this stat talk, is like a foreign language to me. Should I go back to school, to learn what all these stats mean. BABIP/OBP/SOB/AM in the KT, blah, blah, blah. Call me old school, give the Cubs ballplayers, who can play the game, and leave the stats to the geeks (no offense, ya'll)
  10. Agreed. The NL is better pure baseball, whereas the AL is more of the Generation X style baseball, that needs RUNS "NOW." I am more of a purist, so naturally I think the AL should get rid of the DH. With that said, I would like for the Interleague crap to end, now. Because, part of the reason why the AL is so more dominate is because it is easier for them to play the NL style, then it is for the NL to play the AL style.
  11. Because he tried to steal third a few games back, and got thrown out. That's why. Bynum is the new Nefti Perez.
  12. Personally, I think Giambi/Jeter and Ramirez/Ortiz are going to cancel each other out (the problem with having multiple MVP candidates on a team), and it wouldn't SURPRISE me that either Morneau or Hafner wins the MVP award. Because, to me Justin Morneau is more valuable to the Twins, then Ortiz/Ramirez is to Boston, or dare I say Derek Jeter is NY. Take Morneau out of Minnesota lineup, and they are battling the Royals, and not the White Sox/Tigers. To me, I would vote for Morneau as MVP.
  13. Who says if the Cubs acquire Carlos Lee, they would have to trade Murton? It may not be a popular decision, but the Cubs could platoon Murton for the remainder of Jones contract, (2 yrs) and still go after Lee. With that said....outside of money....how can Hendry convince any good to major free agents tocome to Chicago? I mean: 1: The Cubs are likely to have a new coaching staff 2: An offense that still blows worse then some high school teams. Right now, I can't see the Northside being an attractive place to play right now, espeically with the White Sox playing as well as they have the past two yrs.
  14. Cubs have no need for Howard (and Ryan can't play anywhere else but 1st) with Lee on the team, so I would say CHASE UTLEY or bust.... With that said... People automatically assumes that Pierre who could be classed as a Type A Free Agent, would be offered arb. But what happens if Hendry doesn't offer arb to Pierre, ie like Nomar, and he leaves without getting any draft picks in return? Or better yet, what happens if Hendry does offer ARB, and so a team goes Boston/Clement on us? Meaning the Cubs would have to settle for a 2nd/3rd/4th rd pick at best for Pierre?
  15. Walrond is a non-prospect. He's been bounced around from various organizations. He's not likely to be in the Cubs organization next year. Like Ryan O'Mally, Walrond most redeeming quality is the fact he throws left handed, otherwise, he is what he is. But, I think O'Mally or Walrond can do exactly what Rusch does at fraction of Rusch's contract. Yet another reason why Glendon should go.
  16. While, I can't argue with the Cubs being the biggest disappointment in baseball, I have to go with Cleveland as baseball's biggest disappointment, and here's why: Their talent level, is much higher then the Cubs (eveyrbody knew before the season, Hendry buiilt a 4th/5th place team), at a lower cost. They were predicted by most pundits to be the serious threat to the White Sox, not the Tigers or the Twins, and the Indians failed miserably. So, I will say the Indians have been a bigger disappointment.
  17. I was one of those who felt Hill's "future" lies as a loogy, but with the way he is pitching, I am rethinking that assesment. Like someone said, I think Hill needs a pitch that goes away from rightes/goes into lefties, or teams are going to figure him out again. But right now, I'm thinking the Cubs should pull their resources, and go after offense (instead of Zito ot Schimdt) instead.
  18. they teach clutch hitting well down in Georgia - and just what the heck is timely defense? Someone on this board was talking about timely baserunning the other day...and I was confused. Too bad, the Cubs couldn't get any "Timely managing," whatever that means.
  19. And Snider has a higher chance of never living up to his potential, while Colvin could reach his ceiling. If Colvin develops into a Mark Kotsay type player, then I have NO problem with the Cubs taking him, over another HSer, WHO MIGHT reach his potential. Besides, you don't compare THAT yr's draft picks, so soon after the draft. You can't really critique the draft, till atleast 1 and 1/2 yrs later. Meaning come back at the end of the 2007 with those criticism.
  20. Unfortunately, that is true. Hendry is going out of his way to help protect Baker's "reputation". IMO, Baker's rep needs to be shot, cause in the past 4 yrs, he has done nothing but help bring an organization done, with his neanderthal thinking.
  21. I think we can agree on a couple of facts: 1: Dusty was taught to manage by Paris Hilton. 2: The slow guys who can get on at a good rate is better then fast he gets on at a below average rate. Personally, I think that Hendry/Baker are being condescending when they talk about OBP. They know, that the Cubs fans know that the best teams in baseball have very good OBP, and that the Cubs have an OBP lower then some little league teams. I find it insulting.
  22. The part that's actually hitting 276 with an OBP barely over 300. Funny. I like murton to platoon with jones and be a fourth of. Sadly we havent produced any howie kendricks, josh johnsons, or andre eithers to jump out and say "pencil him" in for next year. My god Guzman has talent though. Both Kendrick and Johnson had been coming on strong the last couple of yrs, neither were still counted on to be even decent contributors this yr. And Andre Either....before the season people---excluding the Dodgers----were saying WHO? None of those players scream ready to contribute as much as they have. So you can say....all three were pleasants surprises for their clubs. I fully believe of all the youngsters that the Cubs have called up, Guzman is going to contribute the most, and take a big step forward in 2007.
  23. He's not on the 40-man roster, so somebody would need to be dropped to make room for him. Fine, I am willing to see Fast Freddie Bynum go. 8)
  24. I'll take the over at 118. I'd take 122 pitches. Cause "dude" this game is too close.
