  1. Maybe next time, if Carrie wants to add more to the fire, then she should suggest a Izturis/Cedeno 1-2 punch. duck and hides.
  2. Don't insult little leaguers around the world, like that? The Cubs/Dodgers game were as well play as a toddler throwing a ball around in the leaving room.
  3. I never said the Cubs aren't "one of the worst run organizations in professional sports", I'm saying they are not THE worst organization, but just ONE of the worst run orgnizations. There's a difference, Jeff. They are bad, but there are in the collection of really bad organizations, and you are singling them as they are the ONLY team that is run badly.[/u] I'm not singling them out. There are many franchises that are poorly run. However, none are run as poorly as the Chicago National League Ball Club. So you are saying the Knicks and their $120 million dollar team salary (over half are generously gift to the BACKCOURT and are about 60 or so million over the tax line) ain't nearly as badly runned organization as the Cubs? Why don't you, Jeff take a peek at some of the newspapers clippings of the NY papers this past yr (or two yrs), and see if you don't change your perception that the Cubs are not the WORST run organization in sports, merely ONE of the worst run organizations in sports. In other words...the Knicks are RIGHT THERE, Jeff, as to being a poorly runned org. How hard is it to see the fact, Jeff?
  4. Are we surprise? This is the era of "Homerun or strikeout."
  5. Before the season I knew the Brewers weren't going to be the "it" team for 2006. I don't pat myself on the back too much, but this time (sounds trumphet "Fanfare"). So I'm not surprise the Brewers are abit of a disappointment. Now, the AL, Cleveland definately.
  6. I really think MLB has to start penalizing teams for lying about player injuries. The NFL does it, and it works fine. Then the Cubs would be constantly in trouble.
  7. They play again tomorrow. Hill vs. Smoltz And tomorrow will be the same result. It will end in another season sweep to another team.
  8. How to fixed a farm system? There, IMO, are 3 steps: 1: Draft and developed your own players. 2: Make astutue trades. (like the Marlins have done) 3: Sign international prospects (like a Larry Suarez, as the Cubs have done) If said franchise can do all three of these steps, and do it properly, a team's farm system can be replinshed very quickly. And while most, think the Cubs are light on the system, I think there is more underdeveloped talent in the Cubs system, then meets the eyes. So, I don't think the Cubs farm is as bad as some say, I think a little luck, and a little actually developing, and this system could return to the solid depths (around the 10-14 best in the majors) within a yr.
  9. Wade Miller is DONE as a MLB starter. Now if he has interest ins starting his new career as a long reliever/spot starter, I might be interested in having back. But seeing as there are teams like the DRays/Royals/Pirates (you know the clubs that contend with the Cubs) who will offer Miller a starting rotation spot, I doubt you'll see Miller back in Chicago.
  10. My guess is...the Cubs won't make it to 60 wins, and thus will hit the 100 loss mark. Put that on your resume, Dusty, and see if you get the job you want after this season, DUDE. When put that way, I am almost glad that Dusty was kept around this entire season so that he can suffer this illustrious mark. (ok Im not glad) Kharma, man, you gotta love it.

  13. Yeah, I'm aware that Zito's perceived value is that high, but Sulley was saying it was justified. it's justified because his kind do not become available every day, you know. i don't see any other pitchers besides schmidt and mussina that we can add to our rotation that really add anything that our rookies can't. Agreed, add into that the switch to the much easier national League and i think you can see why Zito would be a huge get for us. I think Zito will end up in NY (Mets or Yankees), but the switch to the NL may not be as easy as people think. Zito won't know any of the hitters in the NL. I'd like to get Schmidt because he has shown what he can do in the NL. Something tells me, that Zito will follow Mulder/Hudson into the NL and become instantly medicore. I mean Hudson has been better then Mulder, but Hudson hasn't exactly been the kind of pitcher that Oakland hyped him up to be. Right now, I was cautiously talk with the Marlins about a trade (we've been burned that direction), and the Cubs have to be cautious about Zito who may or may not be the next coming of Kevin Millwood/CH Park. All I know is Hendry needs to do his homework on the players he will be targeting, instead of relying on "the name factor".
  14. Please don't tell me this is a statement of endorsement. Does the man deserve to be let go... yes. Did he help at all in his tenure with the Cubs...somewhat. Should he still be treated with respect, because he has treated the fans with respect... yes. Dusty needs to part way. He hasn't really worked out with the organization, and I'm sure he can find a better fit elsewhere. This doesn't mean he should be trashed and humiliated on his way out. He can probably say something to do it on his own. Show him the class he shows the fans when he is speaking to them after games. He is not a good person. He constantly shifts blames to others rather than accepting blame for his own actions. He deserves nothing. cheapseats, being a bad manager, and 'is not a good person' are not the same thing. Don't confuse the two. Johnny B. Baker is wonderful person, nice, charming, personable. Dusty Baker the manager is dumber then a box of rocks. There are the same person, yes, but don't confused Baker's managerial persona with his off-the-field persona.
  15. Howard may be catching up to Pujols offensively, but he still isn't the better player. Pujols is actually a good defensive first baseman while Howard is pretty shabby. The difference in fielding runs alone between the two is worth a couple of wins. Pujols totally deserves the award more than Howard, gaudy homerun totals aside. Then Pujols should win the Gold Glove at first. But as for MVP, Howard deserves the award, if for nothing else, after trading Abreu he has taking his game to another level. I would like to see where Pujols numbers would have been had he not been injuried, but the fact remains, Howard SHOULD be the MVP. I'm not so sure. I'll have to check the numbers again, and will do so tomorrow or Monday, but the last time I checked, Pujols still held the lead in runs created and win shares. While Howard has been hot recently, Pujols was consistently good throughout the entire season. Howard has the glamor power numbers, but Pujols overall numbers are better. Howard may overtake him, but he still has a way to go. and Vance, we know that voters will often look at the glamour over the consistancy. That's the reason, why I give Howard the advantage. Now, if and when Howard reached 60 HRs, to me Howard locks up the MVP award. How can you NOT give a guy who leads the majors in HRs with a possible 60 or more HRs, to a guy who finished around the 44-48 range. I mean, both Pujols and Howard should be MVP, but my guess the voters, are going to go with the glamour power of Howard over the consistancy of Pujols. Just a hunch.
  16. Has any consider that Dierker may not want to return to managing, and that he likes his current job? Besides what kind of selling job would the Cubs have to do, to even get him to consider the Cubs job? If the Cubs can land him, fine, but my gut feeling is...Dierker may not be available.

  18. He'll actually make it to the second inning with the perfect game? Wow. I doubt he'll even make through warm-ups with the perfect game, much less make it to the 2nd inning. 8)
  19. Go Ceda Boise Hawks win.......
  20. Beltran is a difference maker, instead we ended up with Burnitz. Hendry and his lack of foresight. I don't think we can fault Hendry for not getting Beltran. The feeling I get is that Hendry wanted to go after Beltran, but was told by prolly either Fitzsimmons or MacPhail that he had to move Sosa first. Hence the reason for it taking so long to move Sosa. Otherwise, I think you would have seen Hendry going after Beltran. But here WE do have Beltran, Jr.
  21. There is nothing wrong with seeing if Moore can play at the major league level. Hendry is covering all the bases, so in case ARam does decide, Hendry will have a good idea on rather Moore can play, or should he go after a vet stopgap, like a David Bell. Nothing more, nothing less.
  22. I take it you were up in arms when Sosa beat McGwire for the MVP in 1998, then? I was 11, so I don't think I really had much of an educated opinion. Ah, I see. Well, I will say that Howard will likely finish with numbers basically as good as Sosa's, and his competition will have numbers significantly worse than McGwire. Pujols's team will make the playoffs, and Howard's team may not. Warrants mentioning. But, Howard has had more IMPACT in the NL then Pujols. Albert impact was strictly towards the Cards, when he was out. My guess is Ryan Howard is and should be the NL MVP.
  23. Quick, name the last manager of the Cubs, who enjoy even remote success with another team, after leaving Chicago? My guess is...Baker will struggle to keep a job for even as long as he did in Chicago.
  24. When the new manager arrives (coughsGirardicoughs) he should make two decisions (regardless of financial commitments): 1: Ronnie Cedeno should start 2007 in AAA, until he proves he can be a ML hitter. Theriot has shown he is a better 2B, offensively and defensively, then Cedeno. 2: Dempster CANNOT go into 2007 as the undisputed closer. Regardless of what Baker says (he won't be here, anyways), Dempster must fight for the job. I like to see an opening audition of Wood .v. Dempster .v. Marmol or whatnot. Personally if Wood is healthy, I would like to see Kerry as closer in 2007.
  25. Yes he does!!!! Right back to the dugout after THE strikeout
